Since i upadated my IPHONE 7 to iOS 13.2 i didn’t receive WHATSAPP push notifications. My device receives WHATSAPP message only when i open the app, if i don’t enter into WHATSAPP i don’t receive new messages. I checked all settings and everything is ok. Someone has this problem? After months of trying, I finally found a way to resolve this glitch. Everything else didn’t work for me previously. Contacted Apple and WhatsApp to no avail. Anyway, try the following:

  1. Download WhatsApp Business.
  2. Port your account over to WA Business (click continue after opening the app) without deleting the normal WhatsApp.
  3. Try to get someone to test send a few messages to your number. WA Business should push out the notifications.
  4. Delete your normal WhatsApp and restart your iPhone.
  5. Re-download and reinstall the normal WhatsApp from the App Store. Open the app and allow porting of info to take place.
  6. And there! Notifications should come in as per normal again on your normal WhatsApp!!!
  7. Delete the WA Business app if you have no use for it.

Good luck!!! 🥰🥰🥰

Latest IOS 13.4.1, iPhone Xr,

All apps are updated latest versions: Whatsapp, Snapchat.

Incoming SMS-message give always notifications also when phone is "sleep mode", Whatsapp and Snapchat dont give any notifications.. This is frustrating.

Is this IOS or externals App problem?

Apple give us some hints please.

DND is off, settings full reset, phone hard boot, notifications settings default, nothing help.

Saddenly, I have to move sim-card my Andoid phone when my iPhone messages apps are useless until i get some fix on this notifications problem.

mine Started doing this a couple of weeks back. No notifications until I open the app then it gets busy.

whatsapp tech support suggest an iOS update. So I did and now on 13.4.1 - still not working. Latest version of WhatsApp installed - still not working.

all obvious settings checked - I hadn’t played with them anyway !

Is this an Apple issue or WhatsApp ?

Deleting the app may not resolve this reading this thread and losing any media I have too.

Does anyone have any more ideas please ?

After updating to iOS 13.4.1 still the problem with WhatsApp messages and calls notification not working. I am not really sure if I back my messages to the iCloud and deleting the app to reinstall later will resolve this issue. I think this a problem with iOS with Application running in the Background. again this is not for me to figure out Apple needs to get there brains together. It is really bugging me too. People sends me messages and I am not really aware of until I check the app. It should not work this way.

I'm so relieved to find this thread as I've been googling this issue for two days to no avail. My WhatsApp push notifications suddenly stopped working yesterday, and the desktop app will only work when I have WhatsApp actively open on my phone, showing on the screen. If I don't do that it says "phone not connected."

I have a 7 that's (now) running 13.4.1. I updated yesterday in trying to fix this issue. Other things I have tried are: Updated WhatsApp to the latest version. Restarted the phone. Made sure background refresh is on. Made sure notifications are on both in Settings and in the app. Made sure DND is not on. Turned off and on wifi. Turned off and on cellular. Logged out of and back into the desktop app. Deleted, re-downloaded and reinstalled the desktop app. Reset network settings. Reset ALL settings. Really the only thing I haven't done is deleted and reinstalled WhatsApp on my phone, and I'm very hesitant to do that because I think it will erase all my chat history.

I'm relieved that this is at least a known issue, but I'm extremely bummed to see that it's been a full 6 months and there's no fix. ESPECIALLY now in lockdown I chat with my friends a lot and it's making me crazy to have to manually open the app and check if there are any messages. I keep missing stuff and it stinks. I also use the desktop app the majority of the time and it's basically useless now.

Thanks for being there, other 462 of you who have this question too.

I have the exact same problem. I have to open apps in order to receive notifications. It happens with all the apps I use (Whatsapp, Viber, Messenger and etc.) Issue occurs both on Wifi and Cellular. I have iPhone XR with latest iOS.

Interesting part is I tested other iPhone users, using different iOS versions and they have same problem.

I tested this on my iPhone 5s too (running iOS 12 version) and same issue there. I just do not understand. How can it be iOS bug when other iOS versions have same problem? Even older ones?

Did you find any fix?

I backed up whatsapp using the in app whatsapp backup feature (it backs it up to the icloud), I reinstalled whatsapp and it offered me the chance to restore right away which I did and everything including media was there ( there is an option in the backup to backup media too) So I would backup the iphone (which mine is) and then backup whatsapp within the app and try the reinstall then)

Hope this helps

After updating to 13.5 and seeing that nothing was fixed, I opted for backing everything to iCloud and then deleting the app. After reinstall all media and messages are back and I can confirm that the problem is gone.

Now I can't use web WhatsApp, because the app won't scan the code on the computer, but I can live without it.

I hope it holds.
