iPhone 11 pro max and Harley Davidson CarPlay Audio

the phone call feature does not work when you connect the iPhone 11 pro max to the Harley Davidson system through original iPhone cable. All other features work including music, maps, WhatsApp, text etc. Only audio calls do not work with the wireless Bluetooth Sena headset.

Older phone models with iOS13 work just fine.

Go to H-D.com and find the owners tab. You need to update the radio firmware. Download to your computer then to a thumb drive. Plug into your usb jack on your bike and turn your bike to accessory and follow the on screen instructions.

Type in update H-D firmware on uTube for easy to follow videos. Now my iPhone 11 Pro works perfectly again.

I have a 2014 FLHTK. I put in the Boom! Box GTS. I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max. I had the non-HD 20S and SPH10. Both did what everyone here is complaining about. Yesterday I received the Boom! Audio Expand Bluetooth Half Helmet Headset and everything works perfectly with it. I can call, voice text, talk to Siri, etc. ...and if I use my phone, people can hear me. I ordered the Boom! Audio 30K and hoping for the same result.

12/6/19 Update: I spoke with Apple and Harley this morning about the iPhone 11 Problem.

Harley Customer Service Rep. reported that they are aware of the issue and are Working on the resolution to fix it. He did not offer a timeframe for the fix but recommended that we just check the HD Website and see if there is a new update for the GTS System. Until Then - Guess we will have to do without OR just ignore all incoming calls and call them back at the next rest stop or whatever.

I Recommend that anyone that is considering updating or purchasing the iPhone 11 to wait until this issue is resolved.

January 23 Update

I spent some time today with Apple support on the CarPlay issue. Issue still is not resolved but I was able to convince them that this is only an issue with the iPhone 11 models. The phone app in CarPlay will make a call and receive calls but no audio whatsoever using CarPlay. Audio did work for voice directions and a couple of other apps that I tried and Siri would respond too but could not get phone calls to work with using Siri either. I also connected a iPhone 8, iPhone XR (10) and my wife’s iPhone 6s and they all worked as they should thru CarPlay. Keeping fingers crossed that we’ll get it fixed before long.

I must assume that you are just connecting via Bluetooth to the system. Plug the phone into the usb. Connector and then make sure that CarPlay is in fact enabled and working and try again to make a phone call thru car play app.

My guess is that you are not making the call thru the CarPlay app because they have not resolved the issue yet. That is my suspicion since this is a new system for you.

please report your findings After ensuring that you were able to make the call THRU the CarPlay screen.

Same here. Upgraded from 6S to 11 and all works over carplay except phone audio. When on a call, usually I can tell the phone to use the carplay connection, phone or speaker. In this case, only have the option for speaker. Connect my wife's 6S using same iOS and it works just fine. Because my phone is out of reach, I can't just unplug the cable when a call comes in and switch to bluetooth.

I agree this is frustrating to say the least, I bought a new Road Glide Special it was working great then I made the mistake to upgrade from iPhone 10 to iPhone 11 now I can't make or receive calls when on the bike. The part that really bugs me is that Apple doesn't appear to take it to seriously when I spoke with Apple support they tried to lay this on the MOCO, not that I don't think they need some skin in the game as well since they tied you Apple by using Apple Car Play on the Boom Box GTS so if you want to use that your stuck. Harley needs to work with Apple to get this resolved right now it almost seems like there not communicating with each other and its been going on since September.

Just fix it!!

Same issue here. Purchased Iphone 11, Hooked up to 2019 HD Boombox and noticed no audio thru headset via carplay. Tried to no avail to get it to work. Thought some setting somewhere would be fix. I went to search for fix on internet and led me to this thread and HD Forum stating same issue. What a disappointing conundrum. Lot of money blown with a feature that I can no longer use on my Harley. Older Iphone software not a fix either. Obviously Apple changed something with the Iphone11 that is different than earlier models that work fine. Probably take both HD and Apple to fix. Maybe able to fix with FW and/or software but appears to be hardware change that created it.
