Airpods Pro wireless charge not working

Is anybody else having an issue with the Airpods Pro not charging wirelessly? When I place it on my wireless charging pad (Samsung, Choetech, and Yootech brands) they all charge it for a few minutes, but then the Airpods Pro stop taking the charge. I've gone through two brand new pairs of Airpods Pro and neither of them work.

I'm pretty sure this is related, but when I open up the case and the pop-up window of the Airpods Pro shows up on the iPhone, the icons of the Airpods buds will flicker between showing a normal battery status and then a red exclamation mark.

I've reset both sets of Airpods Pro. At the time both were on the most current firmware (584, 588).

As I've stated, I've gone through two brand new pairs (both bought from the an Apple Store one week apart) and both show these issues. I'm going to return this pair and just wait till all the bugs are sorted out.

found this in a thread:

My anker powerwave 7.5 both stand and pad can only charge

intermittently. I asked their customer service, they said it's not

compatible with airpods pro due to overheating issues. Once the airpods

pro is overheating the charge will stop, and it will resume once it

cools down. SO my current fix is just leave it as it is, it will be

fully charged in few hours anyway. I guess only apple can fix this

overheating problem. The cut off temperature of airpods pro is lower

than that of iphone, the iphone still holds the charge even its body is

quite hot.

I wonder what wireless charger Apple used in their testing that it didn’t raise a red flag. My new Choetec wireless charger worked where it specifically stated it would charge the APP. Not a great solution but it was cheap enough.

My other frustration is that this isn’t a big enough issue for Apple to do anything about it. I get the feeling most folks still just plug in their lightning cables and never use wireless charging so they don’t even know their wireless charging isn’t working.

APPLE WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Why does this thread go ignored by you?

I’m having the same issue. Brand new AirPod pros! I tried charging it all night long and the case is only at 50 percent! I put it on there around 7pm it’s now almost 10 am. It’s frustrating since the headphones didn’t come with the connector to charge it on the wall. Only the cord. It makes me angry that with such and expensive item they wouldn’t give you all the pieces to charge it! Not everyone owns wireless chargers so not providing them with the full wall adaptor is honestly such a scam on apples part!

I did something similar with my pair except instead of using a silicone case, I took an old check I had laying around, folded it in half and put it between the charger and APP. It’s been working now for a little bit. I will say that I had mine replaced though. I had this issue and Apple offered a replacement case. I had an engraving so I bothered them until I got a new engraved case. I had to actually get a full refund and replacement order because they won’t just give you a replacement case with a custom engraving. It was annoying but maybe they’ll take notice soon...

I have had this issue since day 1. Swapped out (knowing it wouldn't change anything).

5 different chargers INCLUDING THE TWO THAT APPLE STOCKS (Belkin Boost Up! and mophie wireless charging pad) do NOT charge the APP and Belkin said they are aware of it. The Boost Up that I got was a slightly diff SKU (it was the normal edition and not the "Apple exclusive" chrome edition) but it is the same components essentially -- different SKU with a chrome outline and a SKU that says APL on it for Apple exclusive.

It's just a problem with the APP. I have an open case about it and they've done nothing.

Correct. Multiple sites have confirmed that the APP will stop charging (sometimes around 83%) due to overheating while charging wirelessly. Major flaw.

Belkin support confirmed to me that the Belkin Boost Up! (you know, the one that is sold in the Apple Stores and online) as well as similar models are confirmed internally to not support the APP.

Haha don't worry about your typos! I didn't even notice. Thanks for your super in-depth reply. I think maybe that charger you have just happens to be one of the random "lucky ones" that seems to work. I heard brands like Anker thrown around as almost always working w/o any issues. Maybe Aukey is another brand that just happens to work.

Could also be the little case you have as I heard that some people jerry-rigged it to work with postcards, pieces of cloth, etc. to prevent the "metal detection" or overheating or whatever.

Out of curiosity, can you successfully charge your APP from beneath 50% to 100% without the little case you have? You don't have to test it for me of course just thought I'd ask cuz if you can, it would just prove that Aukey's chargers seem to be on the "working" list and it's not the little case making it work.

And yeah, when I talked to Apple, I had to keep mentioning that I understood that the APP light itself turns off and that when I mentioned "lights flashing" or "going out", I was referring to the light on the charger itself (like it seems like yours has a little green light on the very bottom middle).

On all of my chargers (incl. the Belkin and mophie that Apple sells)... I would either get the light indicating it's charging... then it stops... (as if the APP was removed)... then if I don't touch it, it would come back on for a minute... turn off... back on... and then usually it would finally fail entirely before 83% by starting to flash at me like a strobe light (that happened on all 5 chargers that I tried). Sometimes it would jump immediately to strobe light mode and I'd have to just remove the AirPods or the whole room looked like a nightclub LOL.

Thanks for the reminder about the charging light going off after a few seconds but the posters here have already identified this and still the wireless charging does not work properly.

as an FYI I called Apple Care and they are sending a replacement case to see if that fixes the issue. Will update everybody here.

Ive has Apple store employees confirm the wireless charge issue but nobody confirms when I call and we have not had any Apple employees respond to this thread despite it getting longer and longer.

Having the exact same issue with my APP on a Quezqa charger which specifically lists APP compatibility. Case definitely gets warm and the right APP won't charge at all, in fact, it loses charge while in the case sitting on the charger. Hopefully they can fix this but I think I will stay away from qi charging the APPs for now as the right one losing charge while on the charger is concerning and may indicate adverse effect on the battery :(
