Apple TV Plus content no longer plays in Dolby Vision

Basically I have the same problem here with an LG C9 OLED TV.

Trailers play in 4K Dolby Vision via Air Play 2, the actual videos only in HD with SDR.

For god sakes Apple, you have so little ATV+ content and still manage to screw up big time?!

I originally reported this issue to Apple on 22nd November. Since then I’ve had three follow up calls from Apple support, had my case switched from Apple TV to iTunes Store content and explained multiple times the situation. After all this they have yet to acknowledge that there is a problem that has been reported by other users. I’ve even provided links to other reports of the issue but have been told that they cannot open links due the lockdown of their equipment.

I was rather enjoying For All Mankind but haven’t watched episode four onwards due to the lack of Dolby Vision playback on my OLED TV. If I wasn’t utilising the free years trial and was paying for the service I would be demanding my money back.

All I want is someone at Apple to acknowledge the issue and say that they are working on a resolution.

I just noticed today that nothing on Apple TV Plus is in HDR. It was working even a week ago but not now. I definitely think fishy things are happening. For instance I read an article about Disney plus wrapping their content to trigger the HDR flag on the TV but it's not actually in HDR or dolby vision. The people did a test on the contrast ratio of the black and white and found that its not HDR at all. This is disturbing since it makes the TV think it's HDR therefore changing the backlight and contrast settings which will shorten the life of the TV. Disney seems to be ignoring this since the issue has not been fixed or even addressed. I wonder if Apple is going to do the same thing.

It's not just on the Apple TV device. It doesn't work on the Apple TV app on other devices or TVs either. Mine won't even show the HDR flag anymore. But it doesn't matter to me anymore, I fixed the problem by canceling my subscription. I would encourage any monthly subscribers to do the same thing. Apple only listens to customers when it effects their bottom line.

Slightly different but similar issue.

Stream Apple TV+ straight to my LG C9 TV using my iPhone 11 Pro, both 4K and Dolby Vision are not working (only plays in HD with no HDR whatsoever). This applies to all content on Apple TV+.

Trailers for those shows work fine with 4K and Dolby Vision. So does YouTube and movies rented via the TV app. I’m pretty sure this is a issue on the Apple TV+ side not my hardware.

Same here, didn't work yesterday but it does today (E.U.)

UHD + Dolby Vision is working again via AirPlay 2! Yay!

But still no comment from Apple.

I reported this issue to Apple Support today. I have a samsung qe65q9fn which doesn’t have Dolby vision support but should okay standard HDR10, but this is only for some content. See episode 1, HDR, episode 2 SDR. Morning show all HDR, truth be told all SDR.

Folks you need to report these issues through the Apple support app, glad it’s not an issue with my TV.

Unfortunately also the first episodes of "Servant" are afflicted with the reproduction problem.

It is noted that in the intro to see a problem also on the hdr on the range and the level of blacks.

I'm not alone! Programs that were playing in DV before are now only HDR. Snoopy in Space is still in DV (at least the first episode...haven't tried the rest).

That's been the case since this problem started. The video stream is Dolby Vision, but the Apple TV 4K thinks it's HDR10 once playback starts.

Having the same issue, I was able to watch Apple TV+ shows in Dolby Vision when it first came out, The morning show, SEE, For all mankind. They were all in Dolby Vision, now they just are on HDR. Nothing has been changed with my TV, Receiver.. it just seems they are not streaming in Dolby Vision anymore?

I reported to Apple for support 3x this problem but they called me back and said that nobody else reported such a problem to them and they did not meet such a situation and engineers from Ireland say that everything works well

for me 4k and dolby vision probably only worked for 4 days by Air play 2 and now it does not work, only in hd and without hdr

Poland region, later dolby vision on the English website worked, but now it also doesn't work

I have the same problem with Apple TV+ here in the Philippines. My Samsung TV though no longer plays in HDR and now plays in SDR only.

First episodes were working fine. HDR in Netflix is working fine too

I also observe this problem. The first few weeks of Apple TV + we had glorious Dolby Vision on "See" and "For all Mankind".

Now the highlights are less striking, in Plain HDR10, like we are some kind of Samsung peasants.

same issue here, all content that has dolby vision tag is not playing in dolby vision! everything else work fine with dolby vision this is only apple tv plus issue! its been a while since anybody responded from apple! WILL NOT PAY for this scam! Apple must be so busy since they are not even bothered to read this thread! very disappointed!!!
