Google Maps
I cannot load Google Maps on my MacBook pro safari browser. WHY?
I cannot load Google Maps on my MacBook pro safari browser. WHY?
In short: Pls. give http://maps.google.com/?force=canvas a try.
In detail:
Hm..., I myself experienced the issue today for the first time.
I then updated Safari to 13.0.4 without applying Security Update 2019-007 10.13.6 (as there are frightful reports about upgrade failures).
The problem still persists.
So the problem might be caused by some recent changes within Google Maps itself.
There have been similar reports years ago...
Google Maps recommends using 2D mode when experiencing problems with (now default) 3D mode on one of its Maps help pages at https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3031966?hl=en
2D Mode: This Google Maps version may work better on older or lower performance computers. It doesn’t have 3D images or WebGL, and it uses simple zooming and transitions. Open Maps in 2D Mode.
And yes: A bit dull, but working like a charm :-)
I get the message "A problem repeatedly occurred with "https://www.google.com/maps"
I have cleared browser history, ran a malware program, cleared profiles and done everything I can think to do.
Do you have any suggestions?
EXACT same problem developed for me yesterday. Something's going on. Ran Malwarebytes, which did detect and quarantine a virus, but it didn't fix the problem. Have found very little relevant information online. Most is geared towards problems with the Google app for iPhone or iPad.
It will load in Foxfire and Chrome, but I don't usually work with those search engines. I also ran malware bytes but it did not fix the problem. I deleted the history. restarted the mac in safe mode. None of those fixed the problem. I have spent hours on this issue. If you learn anything new. let me know. Thanks.
Don't use Foxfire or Chrome either. Will stop in at the Apple Store tonight after things slow down and see if I can squeeze in at the Genius Bar. AppleCare's run out for me.. Will let you know if I find anything out. Never encountered this problem before, and I use the Google maps on my MacBook Pro quite a lot. I'm still running High Sierra, although that shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks, Keep me updated if you don't mind. I also run High Sierra 10.3.6. Haven't downloaded the new software because my Accounting package to date has said NO because it will stop working. Waiting for accounting update before I update MacBook.
Appreciate your assistance. B
Same as everyone else... Google Maps will not load using Safari, but it's fine when using Chrome and Firefox.
I compartmentalise, personal, academic and work by using 3 browsers. I use Google Maps on Safari only, so this is a problem for me.
I cannot upgrade to 13.0.4 because my accounting package will no longer work. So this fix will not work for me. It is really annoying that the supposed upgrades mess up so many things. Would really like to be able to use Google Maps and my account package, but if I have to choose. Accounting will have to win.
Same problem with me, google maps won't load because "a problem repeatedly occured".
2D version loads allright, but I don't count that as a solution.
System Version: macOS 10.13.6 (17G10021)
Safari Version 13.0.4 (13608.4.9.1.4)
I agree. Thank you very much for the 2D option. I can use Google Maps. But, it is a work around. And does not work as well. I don't know if it is an Apple problem or Google. But it is still a problem that the company we committed to for our computers, phones, OS, etc... should have enough loyalty to us to get fixed.
As others have mentioned, I dunno if this is Apple issue with Safari, or a Google Maps issue -- or a combination of both.
That said, the Google Maps team is aware of the issue, with this thread in the Google Maps Help Community.
Thanks for the suggestion, https://www.google.com/maps/?force=canvas does get me there, and I don't normally use 3D imagery, so good fix. Many of my colleagues no longer use Safari, though, because of little glitches with so many applications, including the one I use to fill out my time sheet where I work. So it may be time to move on to.....Chrome, or some other browser.
Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I have been having the exact same problem for about 3 days now. It happened out of the blue. Never had the problem before. No new software has been loaded to my MacBook Pro. No changes, just this.
@Deep Sky Diver
Strangely enough, until yesterday the latest version of Google Maps worked fine in Google Chrome and in Firefox, but not on Safari. Today, both Firefox and Chrome also only show a 2D version of Google Maps.
That *is* interesting news! (thanks for the catch)
What version of the OS are you using, and on what device? I'm limited to either using the older El Capitan 10.11.6 or the latest macOS Catalina, version 10.15.2 thus cannot try/test it myself. Thanks!
Thanks for your reply. I started this whole question and I have not update anything in a couple of months, so it does not have to do with updates on my part. Google Maps has changed today on Chrome for me , but my Firefox is still working. Virus protection found no error, but maybe is is some kind of bug.

What changed for you today on Chrome? Was it what Deep Sky Diver reported that Google Maps now displays in Chrome only in 2D, or is it something else?
but maybe is is some kind of bug.
Or it could be that Google Maps engineers are in the midst of a fix. (But I gotta say ... when I make guesses like that, I'm wrong way more than I'm right ; )
