AirPods Pro Rattling Noise

I’ve only had my AirPods Pro for a bit over a month and my right AirPod has a rattling noise which originally was just when I coughed or cleared my throat and now it’s litterally every slight move it rattles. I use them primarily at the gym and it is the most annoying experience. I have disconnected my AirPods and re set them up but it’s still occurring. I don’t have the money for new ones as I’m about to start University is this something that Apple can fix?

Yes, I am experiencing the same issue too, it originally started with my right Airpod, I got that replaced with their DIY service but now recently it has started with my left one too. Songs with heavy bass or when running, it seems to very noticeable, One thing I’ve noticed, I don’t know if it’s the same with everyone else but when the AirPods are on the “OFF” position it’s not noticeable at all which I find very strange.

Listen, you are not describing the same problem. Regardless of where it starts, it will get worse. It is not limited to any apps; it does it with outside noises, speech, coughing, everything audible. There is no remedy. So far, I’ve gotten 4 months out of my latest pair, easily a record. I’m careful to not turn them up very loudly, as I have an idea the transducers may be rupturing. I think Apple knows this, because their level is considerably lower than my AirPods 2 when I change them.

We’ll see.

Same here... I bought the pros the week they came out... since then, I’ve gone through that pair, that pairs replacement, and now the replacement of the replacement is starting to do it... they seem to last 3-5 months at most and this is a serious problem... I love them otherwise, they truly are an amazing earbud, and I really can’t go back to something inferior... but going through 3 pairs in a time slightly less than a year... and all the while literally taking the utmost care that they never so much as fall on the ground or get hit by anything. There’s some mechanical issue here with the the mic and possibly speaker and it really does need to be addressed.

Clearly there is a design problem and Apple folks if they are reading this should do a global recall if they have fixed the problem .

it is rattling to our nerves to live with the constant tension that the AirPods may fail and rattle and I may have to work without them for a few weeks till Apple decides whether to give a replacement or not.

Hoping for a permanent resolution from Apple

So as mentioned in my previous post, I’ve now had the left earbud replaced and it’s all good.

But just to clear up what *I* perceive the issue being: it’s a physical defect, not a software one.

When the issue happened, it was when the earbuds were effectively ‘turned off’ and not being used. Whenever i moved or especially walked, there was some rattling sound in the earbud(s) that happened whoever I moved or, say walking/running, would happen when my heel connected with the floor.

Trying to adjust the earbud in my ear didn’t help; it wasn’t that ‘squishy/squidgy’ sound like moisture or stickiness. If I lightly tapped the earbud(s), it rattled loudly then softer then stopped. Almost like some loose connection would make an audible ticking sound as it vibrated and slowly softened/abated as the vibration subsided.

I am convinced this is a physical defect of some sort within the earbud which Apple have yet (and probably will not) admit.

I only hope that the next version of the AirPod pros have this defect fixed, as I do find them some of, if not the best wireless earbuds with noise cancelling for their cost.

So i am on my third replacement of these headphones. Ive gotten the left one swapped twice and the right one swapped once. I have a heavy love hate relationship with these headphones, it seems as though even with the nicer build quality and “pro” features that the product still suffers. Ive always been an Apple guy, but man they have been bothering the crap out of me lately.

I’m on my 4th replacement for the same rattling issue. When I called they offered a replacement and I was like I’ve already gotten these replaced 4 times. He said let me escalate this to an engineer... that was a week ago. I’m in constant communication with the CS supervisor.. but it’s taking them a real long time for the engineer to respond.

If your experience is anything like mine they will make you go through a lengthy process to submit an iPhone log. After reviewing the log they will say there is no problem, they will try to blame the user saying it is “perceptual” (aka, it’s in your head or you are crazy), and they will say there isn’t anything else they can do. I would suggest running a ear tip fit check. Mine always fails the check once the ratting starts giving me an objective data point to refute the “perceptual” claim.

If you are lucky they will just offer a refund. They have no motivation to correct this problem and the engineers are clueless as to the source of the problem. This has happened to me so many times I kept a log of every time I used my latest set including what I was doing, what I was listening to, if I heard any anomalies, and whether or not they passed a fit check. When I offered these logs to the tier 2 rep that was coordinating with the engineer they refused to take them. This solidified the idea that they have no intent to fix the cause of this problem. Apple tells us they care about the environment, provide top notch support, and that these are somehow “pro.” Throwing replacement units at this problem over and over again while not trying to fix the underlying issue negates all of these claims.

Mine are working fine now, but I’ve had one Airpod or the other replaced 5 times in total. I’ve now got only 33 days of my warranty remaining and since I live in Singapore, there’s no legal protection for consumers. That means Apple can and will say “hard luck” if either of my pods fail once that warranty ends.

I have rattling noise in my right earpod pro. It generally occures during running and in gym(when there is slight movement) and when i switch of noise cancellation the rattling noise not occur. I discussed this problem with apple authorised service center in India and told them to replace my right earpod but they are telling me that they dont felt this issueand gave very illogical explanation about it. Now what should i do i m facing same problem till now? overall my experience with apple earpod pr was veryy verry bad .

Thanks very much for alerting everyone to this. It’s utterly shameful that Apple took over a year to finally admit that there was an issue -which many users like myself had been insisting all along! Anyway, I’ve just booked my service appointment to get a replacement. This will be the 5th time my AirPods have been replaced, at least this time it will be on a non like for like basis.

Hi Als328, the fact that your rattling noise disappears in off mode is confirmation that you are indeed facing the same issue as everybody else. This has been fully solved by Apple’s product recall so your replacement Airpods will be fine. I would encourage everyone to get their Airpods replaced under the recall campaign whilst they still can; regardless of whether they’re currently suffering the rattling symptoms or not.
