Catalina update : Wont open App Store Anyone else???

Since the update to Catalina, my iMac is acting weirdly. I can't update anything and when I try to open the App Store, it just opens to a white screen and won't do anything.


I have tried:

Logging out of Apple ID

Opening Facetime

Creating another User

Using a different Apple ID

Deleting cookies, cache and everything else listed in the troubleshooting guide

Running eTrecheck


STILL won't open.


Is anyone else having this problem?

I had the exact same problem and found an answer that worked for me here:

I opened up the Keychain Access app, then Preferences, then Reset My Default Keychains.

As soon as I did this it immediately worked, don't understand why or why this isn't anywhere on the Apple support forums.

It talks of the presence of orphan files, so a reboot in safe mode may help. Try that.


Since the Catalina update, although the App Store on my Mac opens and gets things done, I see that the app updates don't happen automatically. I have to manually update them when updates are available. Also, an update shows up much later than when released. Just today an app update showed up that was released on 7th Feb. So it appears to be some glitch with Catalina.

Please read my last post. I am asking how you are attempting to open the Mac App Store:


  1. Are you clicking on the App Store icon in the Dock? OR
  2. Are you navigating to the Applications folder and clicking on the App Store icon? OR
  3. Navigating to LaunchPad and clicking on the App Store icone OR
  4. Opening Spotlight and typing App Store? OR
  5. Clicking the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and clicking opening the App Store from there? OR
  6. Other (please describe in detail)

Please navigate to the Mac App Store or navigate to www.Etrecheck.com and download the free version of EtreCheck. Once you have you downloaded the app and installed it, please run the report and save it.
