Microsoft Teams Others Hear Echo

After getting tired of crappy Dell hardware I have been testing using MacBook Pros running Windows 10 Pro in Boot Camp instead. Everything works very well except for Microsoft Teams. When one of the users testing this setup is on a call, they come through clearly and can hear everyone as expected. However, anyone else on the call hears their own voice echo back. Once the person on the Boot Camp device is off the call, everything goes back to normal. What makes this even more odd (or maybe easier to diagnose?) is that this happens whether the Boot Camp user is using the built in Mic and Speakers or Headphones.

Both Boot Camp machines are Current Gen 13" MacBook Pros with TouchBar running the latest version of Windows 10 Pro (1909) with all of the Apple Software Updates.

What's even more weird, I just setup another machine for testing, and it appears to work fine. This machine should be identical to the others, so I'm really not sure what the difference is.

Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. I really want this experiment to work.

The issue is delay and picking up remote and system mic sounds...

While I agree that this can cause issues. I don't believe this is fully the case here. This does not happen on our Windows machines (that aren't bootcamp) nor does it happen on our macOS machines. It also doesn't happen on other chat services. It truly seems like a driver issue. It appears as though the computer is not monitoring system audio to compensate for the delay of which you speak.

That being said. I do think that they might have addressed the issue in one of the latest updates as we haven't been seeing it as much. Now we are getting the dreaded "robot voice" instead. Again, this is on the same Bootcamp machines as before.

If this problem is still plaguing you, make sure you're up to date on Windows 10 Updates, Office 365/Teams Updates and Apple Updates (on the Windows side). If all else fails, then you might have to boot into macOS and make sure you're up to date there too (could have firmware updates). Then recheck the Apple Updates in Windows again.

Not much help but I also have experienced this when using TeamViewer and other similar apps. The reason I was experiencing this was because of the builtin speakers and mic. If someone on the call has the builtin speakers and mic active then the speaker sound when you talk is picked up by their mic then the mic causes the speakers to repeat the picked up sound (echo).

Microsoft Teams has a macOS version, which can be installed for testing purposes. I use it and use an external phone or built-in Microphone/Speakers, depending on what is handy. On the non-working Macs, install Teams on the macOS side, and re-run your test using the same environment as Bootcamp and check.

I also have W10 (dual-boot Bootcamp), that I can try to test in the next couple of days, when the opportunity arises.

I do not have a 2019 MBP, but a 2018 model.

Yes same issue with me also. MS teams is behaving really weird on boot-camp windows. Apple please provide a fix,

The issue is delay and picking up remote and system mic sounds. The solution as it is with all such remote apps is to use a headphone and external mic. This prevents your internal mic from picking up the remote user's voice/sound and capturing it then feeeding it back. All devices perform this way. Think of it. The remote user speaks 1000miles away., your computer plays his voice a few milliseconds later (it takes time for electric signal to travel 1000miles). Your built in mic pics up his voice when you hear it and plays it back to the original speaker 1000miles away. Again there is a few milliseconds delay. Hence the echo when using the built in mic. Use earphones so that his voice can not be picked up by your internal mic. Everyone on the call needs to use a headset and external mic for best sound quality and no feedback (echo).

This echo issue is when you join by laptop audio

If you have this issue, have you considered recalibrating your microphone? Ambient noise cancellation (including speaker feedback) can typically be compensated for. I had to do the same on both macOS and Windows, otherwise I used to get feedback.

Now we are getting the dreaded "robot voice" instead.

I typically create a Windows System Restore point, before I apply any Windows Updates and/or Apple Software Updates to Windows. Otherwise I end up with really bad drivers.

I have the BC/Windows version of Teams in use for the last month. If I use my phone for audio, I have to mute the built-in Audio Input/Output. I have tested with a TRRS headset (which is not that great). Built-in Audio works fine, if I do not have a phone handy. I can also use the Teams app on the phone. I have also tested with Apple AirPods connecting to both MacOS and Windows for Teams, which works fine.

If you can provide more details of your configuration, I can test the configuration that is causing issues for you.

Why do you think all the tv reporters wear a headset when they are streaming? It is the nature of using a speaker and open mic. You speak and your built-in mic picks up your voice. Your voice is transmitted to the remote computer where that computer's speaker broadcasts your voice. That computer's built in mic picks up your voice broadcast by that computer's speaker. That computer then broadcasts your voice it just picked up and you hear it as an echo.

Get a headset so that sound is not broadcast such that the computer's mic can pick it up and rebroadcast it.

I’ve been having this exact same issue. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro. All system updates, OS, and application updates are up-to-date. Works for 30min, then issues. The only thing that seems to work is dialing into Teams calls from my iPhone, while then doing another hard shutdown and start up on the Mac to reset. Tried resetting PRAM and SMC, no luck. Makes it ****** hard to get work done.
