Apple Watch workout map missing

No map showing recently in Activity Workouts. I Have an Apple Watch Series 3, and an iPhone6 with 12 gigs. On the Apple Watch I would select workout and start an outdoor run. Previously, my phone on the Activity app, in the Workout section would show a map of the run, but not for the past two weeks. On my phone, I went to Settings, then Privacy, and made sure Location Services was on for Apple Watch Workout "While Using" and also for Maps. I'm afraid I may have turned off something I wasn't supposed to. Suggestions?

Also had the same problem even had apple support call me and we both could figure out why. So in my apple watch > privacy> location services> Apple watch workout- it says ask next time. But for a month it never did ask. And you cant even changed or tap it to the “while using option”. And then on my Iphone >settings>privacy> location services “apple watch workout was not there. This is something small but annoys me as I want to view my route after running/cycling. So here’s my SOLUTION after a month of agony -> All I did was erase everything on my apple watch and just paired it again on my iphone 7 plus. And then at the start of the pairing again it asked about route tracking. I just made sure that I turned it on. And so its good now. Finally apple watch workout is now available in iphone > settings > privacy> location services. I hope this help others. Either this was a bug or I changed something in my settings (which is not likely) prior to that 1 month I used to have maps/routes on my watch workout. And I barely changed things in my apple watch. I really just use it to monitor my workout and details like heart rate. I really think its a bug with the latest update on ios for apple watch. God bless everyone ! Jesus loves you!

I went through this at length with Apple support. I had all the right options turned on and tried several of the suggestions here without success. What I had to do was back up and unpair the watch, back up and restore the phone, then re-pair the watch and restore from backup. Took a long long time. But it did work. Apparently some common corruption that software updates don't correct.

To see the map, you must turn on route tracking. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, turn location services on then tap Apple Watch Workout, then tap While Using the App.

Then tap on maps then tap While using the app.

Then tap on System Services and turn on motion calibration and distance.

Another place to check is on the watch in settings/privacy/Location Services and make sure this is turned on and scroll down to apple watch workout and select while using the app.

Hi apparently i found the solution for you all! I have the same problem too!

Problems - under location services, no apple workout options to turn on the location Service while using so i unpair my watch, re pair again and first question in appke watch is "enable route tracking" which I can't remember if i enabled it first time. So make sure you don't miss that! Then you're set, another popup would be use as new watch or use backup, make sure you use backup and the location service on your iphone will now have the apple workout option! Thanks

I tried unpairing/repairing, rebooting watch and phone and nothing work. However, when I backed iPhone to iCloud and reset the iPhone to new and reinstalled from my backup all the routing maps appeared. Even the ones I thought I had lost. My entire route history was there! Apparently resetting the iPhone can fix other problems as well but this was a huge fix for me.

Hello all who have the missing map issue in workouts from Nigel in the UK.

My watch and phone and have worked happily together for over a year, recording my workouts and always showing the map., until September 18th when it just stopped!

All the advice given in this thread and other information from other websites to restore the function just didn't work. I hadn't realised just how much I use it.

I was about to give in and ask Apple for help when I opened the map app on my watch. I scrolled down and found the heading 'guides' and under the heading was a pinned 'My Place' . Which was........The North sea! Where did that come from?

It was impossible to remove this from the watch and eventually I managed to remove it from the map app on my phone. I shut down the watch and phone ( for the umpteenth time) and the following day went for a workout. When I ended the work out a map of my route was there!

Just to be on the safe side I have done another different workout route today and the map is there too. Happy Days!

So, I might have been lucky or some other magic might have been at play but it worked for me.

Happy workouts and I hope the problem is resolved for all who have it.

Regards

Nigel

Like a lot of others I have had this problem - See my earlier post - With no updated information coming from Apple I took the decision to bite the bullet and follow the instructions to wipe both devices and restore them from back ups. As painful as the process is, it has worked and i can now see my maps again. Shame that Apple can't come up with a software fix but hey ho..

at the advice of AppleCare, I did the backup, erase and reinstall:

PLEASE DONT DO THIS

now I have recovered the functionality. BUT all my old route data has been wiped from the system. They now tell me that because I hit erase. Everything else is gone. Ie I’m now somehow responsible for following the steps that were suggested to me - the same ones that caused my data to be erased.
