Apple Watch workout map missing

No map showing recently in Activity Workouts. I Have an Apple Watch Series 3, and an iPhone6 with 12 gigs. On the Apple Watch I would select workout and start an outdoor run. Previously, my phone on the Activity app, in the Workout section would show a map of the run, but not for the past two weeks. On my phone, I went to Settings, then Privacy, and made sure Location Services was on for Apple Watch Workout "While Using" and also for Maps. I'm afraid I may have turned off something I wasn't supposed to. Suggestions?

I have and iPhone SE and and Apple Watch Series 1, and up until the latest update in Mid March, I always had access to route maps for outdoor walks and bicycle workouts. I have location services turned on, BUT I cannot see the Apple Workout App as a choice in the setup/privacy menu to turn that on. What changed and why? How can I get that feature back?

I have the exact same problem - even the route of my previous workouts display only the starting location. It seems to be a bigger SW problem in the Apple HealthKit database on iOS 14, since other users are reporting this as well...

I‘ve tried unpairing / re-pairing, resetting / restoring (AW + iPhone) and setting up as new (AW + iPhone) - nothing seems to work.

I guess we need to wait until Apple fixes this issue with a future SW update.

In the meantime we need to address this specific issue in a single community thread - this one has the most replies so far (please follow up there):

To see the map, you must turn on route tracking. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, turn location services on then tap Apple Watch Workout, then tap While Using the App.

Then tap on maps then tap While using the app.

Then tap on System Services and turn on motion calibration and distance.

Another place to check is on the watch in settings/privacy/Location Services and make sure this is turned on and scroll down to apple watch workout and select while using the app.

Unpair and re-pair the watch and set it up as new, when you re-pair you should be asked if you want to enable route tracking select yes and the apple watch should be listed in location services where you can select while using the app.

Also had the same problem even had apple support call me and we both could figure out why. So in my apple watch > privacy> location services> Apple watch workout- it says ask next time. But for a month it never did ask. And you cant even changed or tap it to the “while using option”. And then on my Iphone >settings>privacy> location services “apple watch workout was not there. This is something small but annoys me as I want to view my route after running/cycling. So here’s my SOLUTION after a month of agony -> All I did was erase everything on my apple watch and just paired it again on my iphone 7 plus. And then at the start of the pairing again it asked about route tracking. I just made sure that I turned it on. And so its good now. Finally apple watch workout is now available in iphone > settings > privacy> location services. I hope this help others. Either this was a bug or I changed something in my settings (which is not likely) prior to that 1 month I used to have maps/routes on my watch workout. And I barely changed things in my apple watch. I really just use it to monitor my workout and details like heart rate. I really think its a bug with the latest update on ios for apple watch. God bless everyone ! Jesus loves you!

FieryJack;

Thank you for your reply. It looks like all you suggested, are the settings I currently have on my iPhone and iWatch. This weekend I tried to see what would happed if I recorded an outdoor walk on my iWatch workout Ap. Later on my iPhone Activity Ap, under Workouts, it recorded the walk and showed the walk route on a map at the bottom. The next day I used the iWatch Workout Ap to record an outdoor run. Later on my iPhone on the iPhone Activity Ap, it showed the results of the Outdoor Run, but no map of the route on the bottom.

I guess as a work around, I could use the Outdoor Walk to record my runs. My iPhone also says I should do a software update on my watch. So this "map" glitch has been going on for three weeks. Any Ideas? What if I shut off, and restart the iWatch?

My iPhone has 16 GB memory with 14.6 GB currently used. Also I think, about 3 weeks ago, I downloaded RadioPublic podcast AP, I'm not happy with it's performance and will dump that now. ( it uses 92.2 MB)

Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again.

I went to the settings app directly on the watch, then privacy>location services>Apple Watch workout. “Allow location access” has 3 choices (Never, Ask next time, and while using app). Mine is set to “ask next time” and all choices are grayed out, so I can’t make any changes. I’m assuming there is a setting somewhere that is over riding my ability to change this setting.

Hi apparently i found the solution for you all! I have the same problem too!

Problems - under location services, no apple workout options to turn on the location Service while using so i unpair my watch, re pair again and first question in appke watch is "enable route tracking" which I can't remember if i enabled it first time. So make sure you don't miss that! Then you're set, another popup would be use as new watch or use backup, make sure you use backup and the location service on your iphone will now have the apple workout option! Thanks
