YES! I can corroborate that the current iPadOS 14 Beta update APPEARS TO FIX the 3-minute boot loop issue. As I write, I've had several hours without problems on Public Beta 3, which is the only one so far to fix the issue. As said by others, make sure you get Beta 3 to test whether it fixes this issue for you. (On my first go at this I was (automatically) given Beta 2, and was only offered the OTA update to Beta 3 the next day.)

TL;DR:

Opinions: (1) Some people posting on this forum seem to have different and/or additional symptoms to the original poster, and the majority including me (symptoms summarised below). So if this fix doesn't work for you it probably means that you have a different underlying problem that needs a different solution. (2) While I'm glad this seems fixed for now, the whole thing leaves a bad taste. Final word from Apple support at every turn has been, 'this is a hardware issue: pay £$500+ for repair'. This fix proves (if we needed proof) that iPadOSes 13.4.1 - 13.6 contained a 'bug' that unnecessarily bricked some relatively recent, top of the range (once), previously fully functional iPads FOR 2 MONTHS. There did not appear to be a mechanism for affected users to get a fair and timely resolution, so some (many?) paid for repairs or new devices. (I relied on my personal iPad for work and my employer paid for a replacement, fortunately just a week ago and so eligible for 'open-box' return.) My opinion of Apple would only be (mostly) restored if I see the bug acknowledged in 'patch notes', and hear that people affected get repair and replacement costs refunded on request. I get that affected users were 'a drop in the ocean', but the fact we've been vindicated (it's a firmware 'bug' not (just?) a 'hardware issue') shows that Apple needs a better procedure for this type of situation. Otherwise, they're accepting that some customers are going to get screwed, and they're fine with it.

Symptoms: immediately after updating to iPadOS 13.4.1 (and I assume any firmware 13.4.1 - 13.6), my iPad Pro Gen 2 10.5 reboots to Apple logo 3 minutes after sign in leaving the following in Settings>Privacy>Data Analytics: 2 x "stacks+thermalmonitord...ips" followed by "panic-full...ips" "no successful checkins from com.apple.thermalmonitord in 180 seconds..."

Timeline & attempts to fix: I upgrade to 13.4.1 on/around 10 May; posted in this forum on 19 May; had a tech support chat session in mid-May; emailed customer relations (as suggested by MichelPM) in May; had a Genius Bar appointment on 19 July (when I finally got back to London). I lost count of the number of DFU restores and iPadOS upgrades through 13.6 - none of which fixed the issue.

My suggestion would be to research the consumer law in your country. In the UK it is quite a robust law that even Apple is not above and once I was able to go to the store (thanks Lockdown) that I purchased from and invoke my rights there, I called Apple Care back and they waived the repair fee even though I'm out of warranty. Currently waiting on the return of my ipad so I'll let you know what happens there.

You need to call contact Apple support and have this issue escalated up the support chain per my various postings here that contain ALL the necessary info.

Read this post to find the info.

I am not going to keep reposting the same info over and over again.

Call Apple support.

Everyone here needs to keep hounding Apple phone support and keep send feedback back to Apple on a regular basis per the the feedback form info in my other postings here.

Hey Squad,

So I of course am in the same rut with my Ipad Pro 10.5, but mine is stuck in Restore after the 13.4.1 update. It starts updating and restoring but always restarts and will send all kinds of different error messages. I have spoken to Apple about 3 separate times and gotten to Tier 2 each time. They had me take it into Best Buy since all of their stores are currently closed. They were at least able to capture the diagnostics and send it to Apple. Basically every single person I have spoken to keeps pointing to a hardware issue. I finally got someone on the phone to admit to me that a hardware issue would at least be sending consistent error codes rather than all kinds of different ones. I went to an authorized apple dealer and showed him this forum and the Forbes article basically stating that there is a widespread problem with this exact model and that update. He said, "I haven't seen anything like that, but if that many people are having issues, it has to be something in the update. You should try calling Apple back and ask a Tier 2 to escalate the problem with engineering".

So I did. The tier 2 rep told me that I am unable to escalate the problem as they don't have enough information in front of them, so they have to assume it's a hardware issue. I told him, I'm not going to pay them $450 to make the classification for me on whether this is or isn't a software malfunction. He put me on hold for about 30 minutes or so and came back and they decided to wave the $450 fee for sending it in. He said they are going to dig into it and if it winds up being a "user created problem" such as damage or anything along those lines they will send me a quote for fixing it and I can choose to go that way or they will just send it back to me for free.

Basically, keep calling! Keep bothering them! Do your research! Even if they come up with something crazy and blame me for it, it's still in front of them and it's a step in the right direction and it's not collecting dust on my shelf. I appreciate everyone's tips in this thread!

I was fairly diligent about installing updates. The boot loop started in late March when I installed iPadOS 13.4 and have installed every incremental update since, hoping that Apple would fix it. iPadOS 14 Beta 3, 4 and 5 appeared to solve the issue but the boot loop returned in Beta 6, 7 and 8. I spent several hours last night before I finally got iPadOS 14.0 installed but the boot loop was still there. It was so late in my time zone that the update was available via the normal OTA method. I did a DFU restore back to iPadOS 13.7 and the update installed. On my iPad Pro 10.5, iPadOS 13.7 would not always reboot if the screen was not active. I had to go back to 13.7 to be able to download anything. I will try a DFU restore to 14.0, but I'm not holding my breath.

FWIW, my iPad Pro 12.1 has now been working great for almost 2 hours without any issues after finally being able to update to 14.2. Fingers crossed it continues as I also had the constant rebooting issue after updating to 13.4.1 a couple of months ago. Frustrating that I had to buy a new iPad (a few weeks before the new range of iPad Airs were released!🙄) in the mean time but hopefully I have the 12.1 working as a backup. Not happy Apple.

I have a first gen 12.9” iPad Pro which was having the boot loop problem after updating to 13.4. I have tried various beta updates with very limited success but was able to update to 14.3 (18C5044f) today and so far it has been stable for 1 hour and twenty minutes using various programs like Safari, Twitter , Mail etc. Fingers crossed that it stays stable but I’m not confident yet. Also grudgingly bought an iPad Pro 11” during the 3months this has been a problem...long time Apple loyalist but losing faith in Apple.

I also have this problem on my 10.5 pro. I was able to upgrade to 13.5 hoping this would fix restarting problem since beginning of May and it did not. I was able to get my iPad to work here and there until today. I had it running for about 5-8 minutes then the very brief start-up looping goes non-stop after about 10 seconds and I get no where now. Tried everything to get past this and well no luck. I have it connected to my iMac in restore mode, but nothing is happening. It said I can not restore or update iPad. I find this ironic that all of a sudden this is a hardware failure after it seems we all updated to 13.4.1. It seems liked all I am reading is massive hardware failure all after an update.
