YES! I can corroborate that the current iPadOS 14 Beta update APPEARS TO FIX the 3-minute boot loop issue. As I write, I've had several hours without problems on Public Beta 3, which is the only one so far to fix the issue. As said by others, make sure you get Beta 3 to test whether it fixes this issue for you. (On my first go at this I was (automatically) given Beta 2, and was only offered the OTA update to Beta 3 the next day.)
TL;DR:
Opinions: (1) Some people posting on this forum seem to have different and/or additional symptoms to the original poster, and the majority including me (symptoms summarised below). So if this fix doesn't work for you it probably means that you have a different underlying problem that needs a different solution. (2) While I'm glad this seems fixed for now, the whole thing leaves a bad taste. Final word from Apple support at every turn has been, 'this is a hardware issue: pay £$500+ for repair'. This fix proves (if we needed proof) that iPadOSes 13.4.1 - 13.6 contained a 'bug' that unnecessarily bricked some relatively recent, top of the range (once), previously fully functional iPads FOR 2 MONTHS. There did not appear to be a mechanism for affected users to get a fair and timely resolution, so some (many?) paid for repairs or new devices. (I relied on my personal iPad for work and my employer paid for a replacement, fortunately just a week ago and so eligible for 'open-box' return.) My opinion of Apple would only be (mostly) restored if I see the bug acknowledged in 'patch notes', and hear that people affected get repair and replacement costs refunded on request. I get that affected users were 'a drop in the ocean', but the fact we've been vindicated (it's a firmware 'bug' not (just?) a 'hardware issue') shows that Apple needs a better procedure for this type of situation. Otherwise, they're accepting that some customers are going to get screwed, and they're fine with it.
Symptoms: immediately after updating to iPadOS 13.4.1 (and I assume any firmware 13.4.1 - 13.6), my iPad Pro Gen 2 10.5 reboots to Apple logo 3 minutes after sign in leaving the following in Settings>Privacy>Data Analytics: 2 x "stacks+thermalmonitord...ips" followed by "panic-full...ips" "no successful checkins from com.apple.thermalmonitord in 180 seconds..."
Timeline & attempts to fix: I upgrade to 13.4.1 on/around 10 May; posted in this forum on 19 May; had a tech support chat session in mid-May; emailed customer relations (as suggested by MichelPM) in May; had a Genius Bar appointment on 19 July (when I finally got back to London). I lost count of the number of DFU restores and iPadOS upgrades through 13.6 - none of which fixed the issue.
I’ll add my voice to the growing throng of users who’ve had theIr iPads bricked by the 13.4.1 update. Tried everything, still reboots every three minutes. Will next waste time talking to Apple Support.
IPad Pro 10.5 , reboot promblem,IPAD Log show the watchdog thermalmonitord not receive the alive message, but the battery status is good, I don't think it a hardware promblem, maybe some IPAD pro 10.5's sensors are not the same, kernel not driver the sensor, thermalmonitord detect a not exist sensor. All are guess , hope next upgrade (iOS 14.0) will fix it .
HI,
I have had the same issue with an Ipad Pro 2017 10.5". Went through all the troubleshooting steps with Apple phone support who escalated me to the store where i attended yesterday.
They also attempted to do a full restore to confirm the issues and managed to replicate the issue and on analysis of the logs tried to point to an issue with the motherboard even though all their diagnostics came up okay.
Got escalated to the store manager who claimed that they cant replace it under UK Consumer law as the issue wasn't raised within 6mo of the purchase and hence i have no right to claim against UK consumer law and that the only option was to pay for a replacement. I've subsequently read up on UK consumer law and seems like he was wrong. The only option i was presented was a discount to the replacement costs of 30pc (which wasnt anything to do with consumer law) or to get a 10pc discount on a new device which still meant forking out £600+ for an equivalent device (mine has 256Gb and cellular).
Anyone know the exact rules on consumer law protection - mine was bought 2yrs and 6mo ago.
I've escalated it with Apple phone support and they've taken it up with Apple Legal on my ability to get it repaired or my original amount refunded under consumer Law. Said it'll take a couple of days for Apple Legal to revert.
I can confirm that on my Ipad Pro 10.5 the 3min crash reboot loop is back. I had it in IOS 13.4.1, it was fixed in 13.5. I held back on updating to 13.5.1 because it worked fine again. But now i updated to 13.5.1, and the crash reboot loop was again implemented by Apple. Sadly i cannot go back to 13.5 since it isnt signed anymore... :(
So i really have to throw away 800€ of hardware because Apple thinks not enough users have this issue?
Greetings,
Enterich
*Update 2
Freezing the iPad seems to stop the boot loop temporarily while the iPad is icicle cold, for about 10-20 minutes. As it returns to room temperature, the device is less able to hold off the boot loop and more likely to get stuck. Pressing on the iPad screen also seems more effective when the iPad is cold.
What might be the cause of this? Has the recent firmware caused a software issue related to 'thermomonitor' temperature reading? Or does freezing the iPad increase conductivity inside the iPad due to condensation alleviating loose contacts? Does anyone know what 'thermomonitor' reads, or where its hardware component is located inside the iPad?
I wonder if is there a way to petition Apple to resign older firmware such as 13.3.1 that seemed to be more functional for those in this thread...
I had tried previous public betas with no success. After the above messages, I decided to try again. The beta profile initially installed Public Beta 2, but when that update completed I saw that Public Beta 3 was available in Software Update which I immediately installed. I've been using my iPad Pro 10.5 for over two hours and counting. I've even been bumping it around as this always caused the loop to return when I thought it had been solved before. So far, so good.
I'm very happy (and jealous!!) for all of you whose iPads are now usable again; clearly, your crashing issue was software related. I've heard multiple times that if an iPad is still crashing after restoring factory settings, it's "definitely a hardware issue." However, restoring factory settings doesn't get rid of the updated iOS, so how does that prove anything? If the new iOS is what caused the crashing issue, then of course that's still going to happen when the iPad is restored to factory settings as long as it still has the new iOS.
Also to further reinforce my proposition above, mostly only those with some window of access to their devices are able to review their panic logs or even go in and turn their analytics on to send them to Apple for review -- those with 3 minute 'thermalmonitor' errors. Any others with more prevalent bootloops unable to pass the Apple logo would not even have access to their panic logs without going through unreasonable bypass methods, if possible.
For those of you who are still bootlooping, if you are able to access you device at all, I would encourage you to go into "Settings -> Privacy -> Analytics & Improvements" and turn on your 'Share iPad Analytics' for Apple engineers to review. Additionally if you are comfortable sharing your data here, below 'Share iPad Analytics' click into 'Analytics Data' and find your 'panic-full' logs. A date should be included in its title. Only share data from panic logs pre-dating any updating to unofficial software (ie. only logs from iOS 13.4.1 - 13.6), you can see this info after the line "build" : (ie. "iPhone OS 13.6 "). Only of relevance at this point I think is data up to the line "panicString" and the 'Error' message that comes after it.
And to reiterate what has been posted here relentlessly, post and post and keep on reporting your experience to actual Apple employees at https://www.apple.com/feedback/
I was ready to update my Ipad pro 10.5 to the latest version beta 8 because currently i m at the beta 3 (in which the loop problem was solved).Lucky me i didn’t update, but for all these people who have the problem Apple should do something. Those with problem fix running beta3 or 4 is like be in ” jail for ever” running in their devices an older OS version for ever and of course for those that still face the problem on their devices.Hope dies last so keep waiting people
I have encountered the same problem. My pad boot on successfully, but restart every 3~5mins. ******* problem..
How can I solve this problem?
I’ve posted this several times. Call in, keep calling in. I have had my problem successfully resolved.
Okay so installed the beta 3 profile. Booted up and been on for 10 minutes now which is the longest in months 😂 I’ll report back later if there’s an issue - I hope this is it🤞
I upgraded to Beta 4 after reading this post about two weeks ago, and it was fixed, but yesterday I upgraded to Beta 6, the 3min reboot came back again.
Same here. Do not install Beta 6.
