YES! I can corroborate that the current iPadOS 14 Beta update APPEARS TO FIX the 3-minute boot loop issue. As I write, I've had several hours without problems on Public Beta 3, which is the only one so far to fix the issue. As said by others, make sure you get Beta 3 to test whether it fixes this issue for you. (On my first go at this I was (automatically) given Beta 2, and was only offered the OTA update to Beta 3 the next day.)
TL;DR:
Opinions: (1) Some people posting on this forum seem to have different and/or additional symptoms to the original poster, and the majority including me (symptoms summarised below). So if this fix doesn't work for you it probably means that you have a different underlying problem that needs a different solution. (2) While I'm glad this seems fixed for now, the whole thing leaves a bad taste. Final word from Apple support at every turn has been, 'this is a hardware issue: pay £$500+ for repair'. This fix proves (if we needed proof) that iPadOSes 13.4.1 - 13.6 contained a 'bug' that unnecessarily bricked some relatively recent, top of the range (once), previously fully functional iPads FOR 2 MONTHS. There did not appear to be a mechanism for affected users to get a fair and timely resolution, so some (many?) paid for repairs or new devices. (I relied on my personal iPad for work and my employer paid for a replacement, fortunately just a week ago and so eligible for 'open-box' return.) My opinion of Apple would only be (mostly) restored if I see the bug acknowledged in 'patch notes', and hear that people affected get repair and replacement costs refunded on request. I get that affected users were 'a drop in the ocean', but the fact we've been vindicated (it's a firmware 'bug' not (just?) a 'hardware issue') shows that Apple needs a better procedure for this type of situation. Otherwise, they're accepting that some customers are going to get screwed, and they're fine with it.
Symptoms: immediately after updating to iPadOS 13.4.1 (and I assume any firmware 13.4.1 - 13.6), my iPad Pro Gen 2 10.5 reboots to Apple logo 3 minutes after sign in leaving the following in Settings>Privacy>Data Analytics: 2 x "stacks+thermalmonitord...ips" followed by "panic-full...ips" "no successful checkins from com.apple.thermalmonitord in 180 seconds..."
Timeline & attempts to fix: I upgrade to 13.4.1 on/around 10 May; posted in this forum on 19 May; had a tech support chat session in mid-May; emailed customer relations (as suggested by MichelPM) in May; had a Genius Bar appointment on 19 July (when I finally got back to London). I lost count of the number of DFU restores and iPadOS upgrades through 13.6 - none of which fixed the issue.
I too installed 13.6 and managed to watch an episode on netflix last night and thought the issue may have been resolved but crashed this morning doing some other stuff...Really can't be bothered to try and nail down if there was anything specific but it still is very unstable
The same here. This morning I installed 13.6. but keeps on reestarting. For three or four hours I thought the was problem was resolved by Apple but no. Come on! What’s going Apple?? Really bad and dissapointed
Has anyone given up yet? Missing using my iPad and can’t keep waiting for this fix as it seems like we’re getting nowhere.
I’ve looked at selling the iPad but sites are only quoting £50 because it’s ‘damaged’ - hard to swollow considering the price we paid.
Tempted to just bite the bullet, sell it, sell my iPhone and start a fresh on android
I cannot and will not do that. I feel too much bitterness. I've loved my iPads for years but my Apple journey has come to an end. I'll be switching to Android tablets because I want to be in control of the OS again. I can root the device if software wrecks it. Shame on Apple for pushing me to do that.
You may get more bitter over time with Android.
Lots of viruses, malware and aware to deal with on that platform.
Just like Windows.
Also, Android devices, you'll soon find out, obsolete out much quicker than any iOS devices.
You may want to just bite the bullet and just purchase another new iPad model.
Up to you, no one here is pushing anyone's else's agendas here.
Just giving you the facts before you decide to make a switch.
Is anyone else having problems charging since the rebooting issue started? My Battery percentage is all over the place each time it reboots, sometimes up, sometimes down but usually stays between 6-14% no matter how much I charge it. Highest percentage I have achieved since this started is 21%.🙄
Thanks! Will await your update anxiously as I have spent hours on the line with Apple support and gone through the gamut of possible fixes but nothing worked and they wanted me to pay $928.25 before I posted them my iPad so they could "fix" it even though I insisted that there were NO ISSUES whatsoever with it until the iOS update.🙄
Mines been running for over three hours now. Left the screen on been running videos, played a few games etc and not a single hiccup yet. Looking promising but I’d follow the feedback here for a few days if I were you
How are all your iPads doing with the iOS 14 beta 3 update? Still staying on? I wasn't so lucky, unfortunately—my iPad only stayed on for about an hour after updating before it started crashing again. Curious to hear if everyone else's has been fixed, though!
My iPad Pro has been doing this also, since the update. It’s frustrating and renders my iPad semi-useless. Shuts down after a few minutes and reboots constantly. I actually “was” still under AppleCare until a few days ago. I really thought Apple would take care of this, providing an update or fix by now. I was wrong. Now I have no warranty. if there is CLASS ACTION against Apple I’m in!
These Apple employees are just Apple Support user community moderators who moderate the tone of the user content here as well as enforce the User Terms of Use of these community discussions, which we all agree to when we all first signed up here.
They are not Apple design and engineering employees and staff and due to both liability and the nature of the variety and veracity and varied user content here, nothing from these communities is ever transmitted to cognizant Apple product design/engineering teams ever!
Mine has been going fine since the update which was just yesterday. If Apple are deleting these comments it’s shameful. Many iPad users would not have the knowledge to do this beta profile update. Apple wanted to charge me over $600 to fix my iPad. Software issue not hardware issue. Apple have been disgraceful in not addressing this.
EDBRMLLN, rest assured that you're not the only one having your posts removed when you have had negative success with the solution that has helped others here. I will post a longer comment in a moment. I have logs of your posts in my email feed (click follow this thread and enable email notifications if you haven't already) and certainly your posts do not contain any confidental information about Beta software. At most moderators can cite you for your tone or 'repeatedly ranting,' however, that is not the reason we are given for the removal of our posts.
I'm having the same problem with my iPad Pro. Updated the software to 13.6. I've done all the suggested options including removing all information and reloading from Icloud. Still reboots every 3 minutes. Worked fine up until the update. What to do??
You have my sympathy but I do think this needs a thread of its own. People who have the specific issue this thread relates to are finding what appears to be a solution. This has helped us because we've all been in the same place to benefit from it. I suggest starting a thread that has a question specifically relating to the issue you think has caused your bootloop. I think you will have much better success in finding other people with the same issue who might very well have a solution.
Best of luck.
