Some keys on Logitech slim combo keyboard for ipad pro not working

The apostrophe, &, \ backslash and < keys did not work after I updated to OS 13.4.  I called Apple support (I told Apple support this started after I upgraded to 13.4) and they had no fix for my problem. They suggested I buy a new keyboard since mine is out of warranty or call Logitech to see if they would replace the keyboard. Luckily, I went on Logitech's community and found the fix. Go to your iPad settings—general. Click on “Keyboard” and change the setting from “Automatic” to “English” or in my case English—ABC extended. Now the keys work. It will save you from buying a new keyboard and a lot of time with Apple support.

I found an additional tip for this, and now "Automatic" works!

Accessibility Warning: If you have motor accessibility needs that require you to "activate" accessibility shortcuts with the space bar, I'd suggest having someone with you to assist if anything breaks during these steps.

Here are the steps:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap "Accessibility"
  3. Under "Physical and Motor," tap "Keyboards"
  4. Tap "Full Keyboard Access." Yours may be set to "Off," but continue anyway!
  5. Tap "Commands"
  6. Under "Basic," you'll see that "Activate" is set to "space." Remove it.
  7. Check to make sure "space" is nowhere else on the page.

You should now be able to switch your keyboard (under General -> Keyboard -> Hardware Keyboards) back to "Automatic" with no issues.

I'll report back if anything changes!

I recently purchased a new iPad Air 4 and then got a Logitech Slim. Folio Pro, although made for the iPad Pro fits perfectly on the Air 4. I took had this problem after I updated the iOS. The fix that people have mentioned works Hardware Keyboard > British (UK) > ABC Extended, but intermittently stops.

Quick fix select the on screen keyboard press the space bar a couple of times and it starts working again :)

Hope Apple fixes this bug soon.

This was really bugging throughout the Christmas holiday to the point I stopped using my iPad, but then I saw the thread on Logitech (https://support.logi.com/hc/en-gb/community/posts/360035761613-Ipad-Pro-11-Slim-Folio-Keyboard-Keys-not-working).  Similar frustrated users here with the same problem, and no permanent fixes.

However...... I did try one a little unconventional but it did work and I am typing this on the fixed keyboard after a couple of hours and its still working.

So what’s the fix....well as Del Boy would say give it a smack!  See this post from Daniel Bastian from above link.

I removed the iPad first, held the keyboard in my left hand gave a hefty smack with my right hand on the back of keyboard then the same smack on the front of the keyboard.

Re-inserted the iPad ....viola a working keyboard.  My current setting for Hardware Keyboard is English (UK) - ABC Extended.

I will re-post an update after a couple of days.

Update.... the fix worked for a very short time. I contacted Logitech to find out that the key board was a couple days outside of the year warranty, so they basically told me “too bad”... even with many people experiencing the exact same issue, which should obviously be recalled or warranties honored due to defect. I threw it away and bought an Apple Magic Keyboard and will NEVER buy Logitech again. They obviously don’t care about their customers. Very disappointed I had to buy another keyboard so soon, but not disappointed with Apple’s keyboard.

Same issue trying to type with intermittent Logi portfolio keyboard is impossible. Missing ‘esc a,q,1 and space bar keys is a real iOS /Bluetooth upgrade issue. Tried all the keyboard setting fixes mentioned in this thread. Still no solution.

Had a similar problem on laptop with Windows 10 upgrades, but problem went away after successive versions upgrades.

Triedwwwmzzzzndseedoesntworkmeether! As you can clearly see with my first attempt in the first sentence it clearly doesn’t work for me ether! Had to switch to the Apple key board of reliable writing.

LOGICTECH sells a faulty product; they need to do more R&D before launching an unreliable product. Not ever buying their brand again. This is an outrage!

this isn't a software issue relating to the ipad or iOS.

You'll notice here, even without the ipad, that the buttons don't trigger the keys to light up:

feels like a logitech issue here. I don't know how to reset the keyboard -- has anyone done this? The top-leftmost button also doesn't work is that the home button?

Thank you all for posting! My hardware keyboard was already in U.S., so I switched it to U.S. International PC. Now all the keys work. The random keys that did not work were 1, e, j, and another one or two. Totally random. I thought the keyboard had died and had logged into logitech's website. No help there. So I googled the issue and found this.

Thanks again!

I can second this. Apprehensive at first, I just tried this in frustration. Smacking worked. I’m typing this reply on the keyboard.

My theory is that there could be a build up or some external particle may be lodged in the wrong place. So happy this is working fine. After months of cursing the quality, it’s ok now. Only hope...it continues to work.

Thanks for suggesting world’s oldest solution for making electronics work :D !
