iMac Mid-2011 (21.5") Application Problems - Possibly Camera?

Hi,

I am having some serious problems with my iMac mid-2011. When I lunch an application (FaceTime, Skype, OBS, Quick Time Video Capture, google chrome) they instantly crash when they try to use the camera. Google chrome also crashes randomly. For FaceTime this is instant, skype will lunch but when is access the camera is crashes. This issue started occurring on Easter Saturday, I have never had this issue before. However this originally happened with zoom but after updating the program is fixed it self. Updating Skype has not helped.

In system report under Camera is says "There was an error while scanning for video capture devices."

In the USB hub, it is displayed as FaceTime Camera.

When Running Mac 10.10 I tried

  • Resetting PRAM
  • Resetting SMC
  • Restarting

I then tried upgrading to 10.11

  • Reset PRAM
  • Reset SMC
  • Restarting
  • Updating Zoom - Worked
  • Updating Skype - Didn't work
  • Checking camera permissions in System Preferences > Security...
  • Force Quitting all applications in activity monitor
  • Fore quitting CameraAssistant in terminal
  • Creating a new admin user - Still occurs on all accounts

  • I have been unable to get the computer into safe mode it get stuck loading and can only access the Diagnosis tool over the internet. The Quick Diagnosis tool returns only a HDD temperature error (see below)
  • The Hard Drive was replaced a few years ago. During this camera ordeal, I realised the new HDD is non-compatible (the temperature sensor is inactive due to the SATA cable) however it has worked fine for years.

I would be happy to use a USB Camera however when I plug one in the issue persists. The USB camera works on all other computers and on zoom. However google chrome crashing randomly is annoying.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Oscar

Okay, I deleted the files and restarted the computer. Unfortunately It appears to not be fixed. I tried another SMC and PRAM reset but wasn't successful. I also emptied the trash.

Here are the crash reports for FaceTime and Photo Both. I tried one at a time. I compared both EtreChecker reports and the files above are no longer listed in the new report.

Updated Report after deleting files.

Thank you.

Oscar, delete these files & restart...

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.teamviewer.teamviewer_service.plist

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer.plist

/Library/LaunchAgents/com.teamviewer.teamviewer_desktop.plist

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.adobe.ARM.***.plist

On this last one...

~ tilde indicates hidden Home Library.

Apple hid the Users' Library folders...

Method 1:

  1. From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder.
  2. In the window that opens, enter ~/Library, and click Go.

Sounds like you have to many Applications all volleying for the Camera at the same time.

Personally I would try quitting all of the Applications that use the Camera, restart the Mac and then only open the App that I needed to use. Then if I needed to use a different camera app, I would quit the first one before opening another.

If that doesn't help, then perhaps the EtreCheck Pro report the rkaufmann87 asked you to run will.
