iPhone SE 2020 battery drain

iPhone SE 2020 battery draining fast. Lost 10 percent from normal 20 minute use with 30% brightness. Is this normal or is it draining too fast. If im on youtube video/safari, i can literally see the battery percentage tick down

I had the same issue with my new iPhone SE 2020. Battery was incredibly disappointing for what I’ve known from my Apple products. I could see the battery percentage ticking down just reading articles (as some others described “a percentage point every 2 min” or so). Like others on here, I did the typical battery saving tips. Biggest clue for me was the first day I took it to work. I don’t have time to look at my phone at work except during my lunch. By the time I got home after 11hrs, I only had 20% battery life. Battery usage indicator told me that Apple Music was responsible for 87% of my battery usage. However, I had only looked at app for abt 3 mins during initial set up of my phone— never actually used it. The rest was background activity (even tho I turned off background app refresh for all apps). As a result of this finding, I uninstalled the Apple Music app. This DRASTICALLY improved my battery life. Next 11hr work day, my phone had only dropped to 78% with light browsing at lunch and a few txts. I used it to browse some social media/watch a few videos at home, but decided to keep off charger overnight. I’m writing up this comment right now with the phone having been off the charger for over 26hrs and I still have 34% battery life. This is much more inline with what I expected given how much i leave it in idle. Wondering if anyone else has the same issue with the Apple Music app possibly going rogue... uninstalling it helped me tremendously.

So i hadn't noticed the heating issue with FaceTime because I had a case on. I removed the case today and was on facetime and the phone does heat up. The battery discharges at about 1 percent every 2mins. The other issue i've found on FaceTime is that uses network data rather than wifi. as soon as i disconnect FaceTime it goes back to wifi. facetime starts on wifi but goes to network data very quickly. I haven't heard back from apple since the first call. Not sure what to do here. I should mention this is happening while the screen brightness is less than 30 percent. Getting quite disappointed with the battery at this point. Hopefully its just some device specific issue and not a design problem. Waiting to hear from apple again

greeting Ryane, and thanks for your contribution to this thread. However, you are answering the issue too generally with an approach that does not deal with the iPhone SE2020 as it has just come out, as it has been reviewed ( great reviews but all reviews cite the Battery as a real problem).

As you can see from numerous posts over recent days, there is a real issue with the iPhone SE2020 battery - i just bought a new iphone se2020 and in the few days that I have had it, have experienced the same issues as have - to my dismay - indicated that this phone has a real problem.

I am based in the UK and if under lockdown minimal use, the battery is this weak then what happens when you are on google maps for a long journey or a day's work with heavy use?

I would say this - with all respect to the designers at Apple of this phone, I appreciate really the sentiment that you cram the buts of the state of art apple pro into a small budget version but where there is fundamentally a misconception is that people are prepared to put up with the 'endless charging who cares about the cost attitude' - which gives masses of new features and functionality which are really only gimmicks. Most phone developers believe this is the way to market success... keep adding additional functionality to make the user want the latest iteration. ( I keep getting prompts to upgrade iTunes or Numbers or Pages) when in fact there is minimal advantage to the changes that they make.

Much smarter would be to take a modern renewable sustainable philosophy and be proud of the fact that the basic functionality DOES NOT NEED TO CHANGE OR BE UPDATED .. software designers should consult widely on this and make it a feature to be proud of " Our software hasnt changed in 4 years - no need to change your workflow"

And then when they do have something really useful or ground breaking or original ( ie like in Voice Memos now being able to search voice memos by name - you didnt used to be able to do that) or to Zoom in on Photo Albums ( ie the feature where you can now see a whole year of thumbnails in iPhoto and Zoom in by touch) - these are really functionally useful features which they ought to offer FOR FREE ... because they are not costly to develop.

And this new image of Apple as a brand which is pioneering a new sustainable user loyalty based clientele is the key to their long term marketing strategy and sustainability .. because if you become a more trusted brand over a long time ( I have been using apple computer for over 20 years) you would buy more stuff they recommended because they understand the difference between what people really need and what unscrupulous businesses are trying to persuade them that they need.

And these times of the Covid threat are pointing to the very sustainability and survival of the whole world - we have the opportunity to break the chains of fossil fuel dependence, pollution, climate change habits...

This poor battery thing is fundamentally a design philosophy miscalculation - this is not just some sort of minor glitch that can be corrected by a software update correction download.

Glad to see this may settle down over time. Seems like I have this battery issue with mine without a SIM card in it yet and barely any use: turned it on, went through initial settings and connected it to wifi, fully charged it and then left it unused while I waited for my new SIM. And I was surprised to find the battery dead when I picked it up after a few days with no use. Now just put in the SIM, listened to a voicemail, made a phone call for maybe 5 minutes, and it feels very warm underneath the camera - like my old iphone would get when charging, but I have not been charging. Fingers crossed this settles down over time.

Same here, got the new SE for 2 days now and battery is draining super fast.

Yesterday (00:00 - 07:00 - 16:00) it went from 100% to 4%

  • night : no activity
  • day : 1,5h phone call in total, some whatsapp and texting in background, maybe some browsing

Tonight (00:00 - 07:00) it went from 68% to 37%

  • no activity at all...

So it won't last a day. Not sure what to expect in a couple of years ... When I got my first SE back in 2016, i remember I could have it running for 2-3 days with just "normal" activity, so i'm certainly not pushing my devices.

So I hope for the same, and that it will balance after a couple of days.

Otherwise, it's a big waste of money :(

Because c'mon ? Turning off wifi, push mail, whatsapp background, turning off every possible setting that could drain the battery in these days, is just ridiculous.

My iPhone SE2020 Battery is DRAINING SO FAST, it has just been three days and within that it has started draining so much I can’t express how disappointed I am, reminds me of tha time 6s batteries used to drain. APPLE NEEDS TO FIX THIS. I just wanted a handy phone and I trusted apple by choosing SE 2020 and not iPhone 11 but Now I really don’t know what to do

I am having this issue too. Battery drains 20% overnight while I am sleeping. At 2 years old I was still getting 2 days between charges with my iPhone 8 if I was in WiFi the majority of the time. With this one I barely get a day. I wish I hadn’t already traded my other phone in because I would have returned the SE for poor performance. I have even removed apps that I had on my other phone and it hasn’t made a difference.

Thanks for acknowledging that. It’s been a bit tricky because I came from budget android to expensive apple - and I panicked having spent over £500 on a phone! Unheard of in my life! In the beginning the battery really struggled and I was so very disappointed as I really liked the iPhone itself. But as I’ve said somewhere else, Apple were very quick to pick me up and get in contact. And I have the feeling that has helped the battery issue. And as you have rightly pointed out - follow the protocols for charging. I think you’re the first person to post back with some good news. It’s not perfect and I could do with about another 10% by mid afternoon as I’m not a heavy user. But as it stands now it’s fairly settled down.. thanks for responding. Cheers, drew.
