I think we should all be clear here on phone models.

I see the iPhone 6s and Xs Max in this thread.

Even before iOS 13.5, our backup 6s (purchased ~5 years ago - and battery 1.5 years old - genuine Apple Store replacement) was having battery drain issues - with only a handful of "essential" apps (lock screen/home screen was draining).

Second, the iPhone Xs and Xs Max are awful. We went through three of these (wife phone).

It's a fact - the antenna is flawed (liquid crystal polymer). Apple replaced with a modified polyamide antennae on the 11 Pro / 11 Pro Max). The liquid crystal polymer antenna (designed to work with the first OLED phones) is garbage.

Note that LED-based devices use a different antenna, like my wife's iPhone 11 and my old iPhone 8 Plus (which, incidentally, has the best battery life and WiFi speeds - 400Mbps+ on WiFi 5).

Makes sense. The model I’ve is iPhone 8 with original battery. Battery health is 96% of maximum capacity. Power drain happens both when connected to WiFi (100mbps & full signal strength) and LTE only (poor signal with only 2 bars). The amount of power drain per 10 minutes is identical in both situations.

So no, antenna is irrelevant to this.

I have an i Phone 7 and since the update to 13.5 my battery is draining a lot faster than usual. I can charge the phone and unplug it, walk away for a couple hours and when i come back i'm down 10-15 % with out using the phone for anything at all. 13.5.1 did not make it any better. My phone has had it's battery replaced by factory trained pro's at the i Phone store and currently reads that it is capable of peak performance and has 98% of its life left. Again this started the day installed 13.5. Yes the phone has been turned off and back on several times.

You just need to make iCloud backup. After that wipe Your phone and install iOS 13.5 from iTunes as In my instruction. And during configuration restore the backup from iCloud. That should help.

You can do also backup via iTunes in case something goes wrong during restoration the backup from iCloud and to be sure that You will be able to get Your data back.

It simply didn’t work. Yes I wiped the phone. Yes I reinstalled iOS from iTunes following you instruction. And yes I restored from iCloud backup. It simply didn’t work. Still 10% drain in 3 minutes without any app running after 1 day stay in idle, low power mode on, and location service turned off.

And then I wiped it again, reinstall iOS again, and instead of restoring from backup I set it up as a new phone, but everything is still the same. 10% drain in 3 minutes without any app running after 1 day stay in idle, low power mode on, and location service turned off.

It seems that keeping 4G connected exhaust all its power. No 4G signal strength here doesn’t have significant change in the past few months.

My iPhone 8 will go from 94% to 0% in a second, and shut down. As soon as I plug it in again the battery goes back up to 94% immediately. It's been going on for a few days now.

I read that using a beta release isn't an option unless you are a developer, so I guess 13.6 beta is out of the question for me. Will have to wait for Apple to release it to the public.

I fully charged my 6s, in 20 min it went to %80 with only 3 phone call for 3 minutes and 1 video on FB for 1 minute... From 14:00 till 18:00 it down to %60 with a few FB and Insta check. No call, no video, nothing. Now 18:21 and it is at %47...

My battery renewed 6, 7 months ago and all problems Exactly started after 13.5.1 Update...

my phone checked by Turkish Apple and they said there is a software problem. And USA Apple said there is a hardware problem... I am using my phone in last 2,5 years without any problem even There is not any scratch on it... Nobody can downgrade my phone old software... So Apple Cheated me and they are preparing my 6s for problems to slow it down... Apple thinks that I will buy an Iphone again, No! Never... I am using Apple systems since 2004 in last 16 years... And I see that how they can kill my Shiny Iphone pocket computer Just with an update. I totally lost my trust to brand...

Man I’ve already DONE that, at least three times. And for the last time I didn’t even restore backup — I just started as a whole new phone and reconfigured and reinstalled all the app from ground zero, and it’s still the same. Heck my battery just dropped from 86% to 80% just writing this reply by now!

Just stop telling people to reset. It’s NOT a magic bullet that can fix anything.

After following this thread, I just restored an iPhone 6s for my daughter (she was using my old iPhone 8 Plus previously, but it's too big). The battery (non-scientifically) has been tracking about ~70% of when the phone was new (2015).

The battery was replaced in December, 2018, and is showing 97% of design capacity.

There is no SIM in the phone (no phone service). There aren't many apps on the phone - she mostly watches YouTube Kids and iMessage with friends. She has less than 50 photos in iCloud (I have 60,000 for reference).

In general, this thread perplexes me because people are having battery drain issues on newly cleansed devices.

However, a word of caution - even after factory-restore, battery usage spikes due to background tasks (notably iCloud Photos and other apps preparing themselves). This was more severe prior to the iPhone 8 which added the two "low-power" CPU cores (six total cores).

Finally, the tip above re: restoration (boilerplate) isn't really helpful at all. Copy/paste of the same stuff without thinking/analysis is unprofessional.

Jul 29, 2020 8:50 AM in response to lindros2

It is a standard fix, call it boilerplate if you wish (which as a retired engineer I take as a compliment).

I don't need to be professional, I work for nobody. I retired 15 years ago.

If it ain't helpful for you then ignore it and let those whom it helped (and there are many) enjoy it.

Better still your actual suggestions how to actually help people sort their phones would be welcome. Earn yourself some points

PS I agree with you that cloud photos are a resource burner. I avoid it like the plague.

In mid June, I was experiencing this same problem with my iphone 8s, going from full battery (or 94%) to zero, and the phone shutting down. I'd have to plug the phone in again, turn it back on, and it would come back up to full battery immediately. After reading several different posts on this site, and trying almost every suggestion with no success, I called Apple Support. Within 5 minutes, the tech I spoke with did a diagnostic on my phone and told me my battery was toast, and needed replacing. I took it in and had the battery replaced for $40.00. Not sure if it had anything at all to do with the 13.5 ios upgrade.

What I'm saying is, stop stressing yourselves out and call Apple Support. Sure helped my stress level.

In that case your phone or battery needs replacing.
