Mouse Keys keep resetting by themselves?

I now know that the Magic Keyboard doesn't work if Mouse Keys are checked. I know how to access that screen to uncheck the box to allow me to enter my name at login. However, it keeps happening. Each time I access the Mouse Keys screen, the field is checked again. So can anyone tell me why? Is there something in the login process which resets the Mouse Keys to be on?

Thank you for your suggestion. I've run Etre Check and got the report as follows -

EtreCheck version: 5.5.5 (5111)

Report generated: 2020-05-29 09:31:05

Download EtreCheck from https://etrecheck.com

Runtime: 4:05

Performance: Good

Sandbox: Enabled

Full drive access: Disabled

Problem: Other problem

Description:

In order to login, I must hold Option, Command and F5 to disable

“Mouse Keys” each time. I do that and proceed with Login but the next time

I need to login and access Mouse Keys, it has reset itself and I need

once again to uncheck the box. It must be something which is

happening on startup?

The EtreCheck Report says that there are configuration profiles installed on my iMac but when I click Open on the report, a window comes up to say "no profiles installed"?

The unsigned files appear to have come from Google downloaded on 12/03/20. At that time, the iMac was really slow and unresponsive and I thought there was perhaps a bug on it so I installed the free version of Avast anti-virus and ran a scan. It came back no issues but it recommended I added Google to my iMac which I did. I've since removed Avast from it because it kept asking me to "go premium".

My website server recommends Google Chrome rather than Safari so I kept Google on the iMac. I don't have any of these issues on my older but far more stable MacBook Air which is what I'm using to talk to you.

Yes I've still got the problem - there's been no successful solution as yet but thanks for sticking with me on this. I think everyone has given up.

Something else to note - when I do Option Command F5 and access the screen, the Voice Over is on - despite its field being unchecked - unlike the Mouse Keys field which is checked despite unchecking it the previous time.

Once I've succeeded in getting on to my iMac, it automatically opens "Documents" despite nothing showing under the "Login items" in Users + Groups.

This file you would like me to delete where do I find it?

Do you want the good news or the not so good news? Good news - it restarted, gave me my name and asked for my password. It let me put it all in but - not so good news coming up - the mouse didn't work.

I shut it down completely. Once again, it gave me my name (which I accept is a giant step forward because yesterday it wouldn't let me put anything beyond three letters of my surname); I was allowed to enter my password but again the mouse wasn't working. After a few minutes, I pressed Enter and I'm in. So, hopefully whatever was wrong has been fixed? I'll check once it's been turned off overnight. Thank you everyone!

Can we come back now to the EtreCheck which talked about unsigned files from Google? Should I do something about these? If yes, what?

Safe Mode never appeared on the top right hand corner of the screen so I'm not sure it worked. I didn't know what to set up to see if it made a difference because the issue only happens when I bring the computer out of sleep or turn it on,

The black pane you show above to give Etre Check full access does not appear when I download Etre check. After entering what the problem is, it starts checking everything immediately. I have checked Full Access for Etre Check on my computer but the Report still says Full Access was disabled.

Morning! I switched the keyboard from my laptop to the iMac and vice versa. The one that came with the iMac works fine on my MacBook Air. No issues at all.

Unfortunately on the iMac when the login screen came up, the mouse wasn't working and the cursor is not on the password field so I can't enter the password. I shut down then rebooted and it has gone into Recovery Mode but none of the options the Recovery Assistant is offering are valid -

I forgot my password - no I haven't

My Password doesn't work when logging in - it won't let me anywhere near the field to try

My keyboard isn't working when typing my password to log in - which of course is where we all got to know each other 4 days ago except I can't even do the usual Option Command F5 because the screen is locked. Pressing Options 5 times to toggle the Mouse Keys doesn't work either.

Hi, about 3 weeks or so ago, to fix the problem I had this morning (Wednesday) Vicky at Apple Support checked if my data files were okay and uncorrupted which they were and then guided me through uninstalling the HD. We then re-installed it. Once that was done, I shared the camera on my iPad with a guy called Michael at Apple Support who sorted out restoring the latest data backup from the Time Machine on to it.

I’d say I’ve had the Mouse Keys’ issue since then but I think I’m just going to have to live with having to uncheck the Mouse keys each time because issues like happened earlier which had been fixed are coming back while we play around with “solutions” to fix the Mouse keys. I’m now wary again of turning the iMac off and having to spend 2 hours almost coaxing it to let me login.

Let’s see what happens when I pull it from Sleep in about 7 hours’ time! Thanks for your support.

Hello again. Sitrep for you and the others who have put forward suggestions. I've disabled Energy Nap and anything else I found which stopped my iMac from switching itself off as frequently as it had been. It now usually comes out of "Sleep" asking only for its password.

On the odd time, it turns itself off, I do have to press Option Command F5 to uncheck the Mouse Keys but I'm going to live with that. It started acting this way I reckon when I, with Apple Support's guidance, uninstalled the HD and re-installed it on 10 May. Maybe I hit a key that I shouldn't have done resulting in this issue. With a bit of luck, I'll unknowingly hit the same key again and the iMac will revert to its original setting. Fingers crossed.

Anyway, I thank you and everyone else for trying to resolve this issue.
