iPad Pro not charging

I am having an issue. Yesterday I updated the ipad to iPadOS 13.5, which seemingly went fine.

Later in the day my ipad battery depleted due to usage, but is now refusing to charge. When I put it on charge either through the outlet or my mac pro, I only get the battery charging notification for a couple of seconds and then the screen goes off again. This repeats over and over.

I am unable to reset as there doesnt seem to be enough charge and it will not turn on at all.

When plugged into my mac it does not recognise that it is plugged in either.

Is this an issue with the update? How can I resolve this?

Solved my issue.

mot looks like the latest update lets the battery go too low, therefore the usual charger is not enough to power it back up. It NEEDED either the original charger or any 12/15w charger.

i used the charger or my Switch and now my iPad it back to life.

before the update the iPad would shut down before reaching a too critical low battery....

Okay, so I have an update. The repair center were unable to repair. I was just told it was a battery issue. I have since bought a 2020 iPad Pro.

Now this is where it gets interesting. Just out of curiosity I picked up my now paperweight of an iPad and decided to try and charge it again, but this time with my new iPad charger.....not expecting anything to really happen, it started charging and within 30 seconds, powered up!

Now I don’t know why this has happened or if there is even a difference between the 2018 and 2020 chargers, but it’s worked and I now have 2 functioning iPads.

You had better luck than me than. I manage dozens of iPads for our company and tried several OEM chargers from other iPads and none worked. The only that finally did the trick was the Nintendo switch charger that others here had suggested.

Since then I tested with the third party PD 3.0 charger that I mentioned in my previous post and that one was able to also restart the iPad from completely dead when no other chargers would.

Yesterday, my husband brought my ipad pro to an icenter. They tried the brand new cables and charger we bought (Bavin brand) and indeed, it wouldn’t charge. When they (icenter guys) used the original ipad cable charger (new), my ipad started charging! 30 mins later, it charged up to 44% from 0%.

I really think the new iOS had something to do with this, maybe disabling non-apple accessories usage. Ugh, now I am hesitant to buy the usb c hub -curve that I saw in facebook.

I wanted to chime in on this with my fix for an iPad Pro 11 2018. Original symptoms were as described by most everyone else: it had discharged fully with no warning and the normal charger and cable were not charging it. Just the repeating low-battery symbol flashing over and over. I tried different cables and different chargers (max 12W), and none helped.

After reading the comments here, I bought an 18W Onn USB C charger from Walmart ($14.88) and plugged it in. It took over 10min, but it finally charged up enough to power on and now appears to be charging normally.

I've notified the user to be careful to not let it dip below 10% charge in the future.

I noted 2 users who previously posted that they were able to successfully charge their iPad Pro devices with a Nintendo Switch Game Charger, so I bought one, and my device was back to life after about 10 minutes....I also had previously sent my device for repairs under warranty, but was informed there is no fault found, after I told the techies that a Nintendo Switch Charger will charge it successfully, as none of the Apple chargers worked....hope it helps...

So a quick update. I have sent the ipad off for repair and I have been told that there is a battery issue where is is draining quicker than it can charge and that the battery needs replacing.

This is too much of a coincidence for me considering it happened only once the update had occurred.

I have been quoted £445.55 for the repair! This is absolutely disgusting.

I have disputed the proposed charges and I am awaiting a reply.

No, they didn't send a new charger. They could have avoided a ****** off business customer if they had just sent out a new high wattage charger in the first place if that is all we need to fix the issue they created with their iOS update.

I ordered a 30w charger and will try that before calling them again. If this was my iPad I would not have let it completely die, but since it was one of our employees I don't have much control over how it is charged, or not charged.

I'll post back the results when I get the new charger. I'm still ****** that I have to waste my time and the companies money on this issue.

I am experiencing the exact same problem with an Ipad 11 pro that does not want to charge after the latest iOS update. I have also tried a 22W Universal USB charger to no avail...There seems to be no fix!

Mine is still under warranty, however there is no Apple store in South Africa, and the approved Apple Vendor will be charging me as per below:

  • Ensure that your device has been backed up prior to your booking date. Potential costs once you arrive for your appointment may include:
  • R200 ($12) - fee if device is not purchased from iStore.
  • R450 ($26) - fee for complex tech support if device is not purchased from iStore.
  • R250 ($15) - insurance letter.
  • R250 ($15) - insurance quote for iPhone or iPad.
  • R600 ($35) - insurance quote for Mac when device is out of warranty.

There should be no charges to anyone with this iOS update/battery related issue, as the update is the issue at hand which caused device failure....Apple, please learn from Car Manufacturers that recall vehicles when a common problem is brought to their attention, and waive all charges related to this particular issue, whether in or out of warranty.
