After update to iOS 13.5.1 battery drain is ridiculous and phone overheats

Ever since updating to iOS 13.5.1, my phone's battery drain is ridiculous. Previously, from the time I removed my phone from the charger at 6:30 AM until I put it back on the charger at 11:00 PM, my battery would drain to around 80%. Now, it's at 80% by 8:30 AM. The device is also hot all the time. Clearly, something is wrong with this update, and it needs to be fixed.

Protect & Prolong life of your iPhone's Battery:

  1. About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch ...
  2. Batteries - Maximising Performance - Apple (IN)
  3. iPhone Battery and Performance

Try some of these options too.

  1. Avoid Screen Mirroring
  2. Put on Low Power Mode
  3. Put Auto Lock On (1 min):- with low power mode it will be 30 Sec
  4. Put Auto Answer Off
  5. Disable Push notifications for apps you do not use often
  6. Keep your iPhone Face down to prevent notifications to light up screen
  7. Enable Auto Brightness:- Settings > General > Accessibility > Display Accommodations > Auto-Brightness [Enable]
  8. Manually lower brightness from Control Center
  9. If you Want to watch continuous Video. Stream it on TV or a Monitor
  10. Don't force close apps; Apps which are not on frontend screen are paused by the system to save energy. Apps require more energy to re-launch. Apps which are open in the background use large memory is a myth and quitting them is counterproductive
  11. Location services to be allowed only while using the app
  12. Set your iPhone to fetch email and calendar data from internet less frequently
  13. Turning off Background App Refresh
  14. Charge before it drops below 20-30%
  15. Try connecting to trusted Wifi where ever available in stead of Cellular
  16. Enable Airplane mode in areas with bad cellular and wifi coverage. Your phone keeps trying for reconnection with the missing / weak network. This uses lot of energy
  17. Switch off Wifi & Bluetooth while in Roaming or Not in Range
  18. Enable "Wifi Assist" : Settings > Cellular or Settings > Mobile Data > Wi-Fi Assist [Enable]
  19. Periodically Check your Battery Health (Settings > Battery > Battery Health)

Same problem (iPhone 11 Pro Max) - I’ve been researching this for some time. I now believe it is some sort of synchronization thrashing problem. This worked for me:

Log out of your Apple account.

Log back in.

I chose to “remove” data like contacts, etc. which is an option when logging out of your Apple account.

Another poster elected to keep local data and then did a “merge” when he logged back in Which worked for him.

I also reset my network settings but I’m not sure this was necessary.

Same here. My XR is draining quickly! The phone also has great difficulty charging . I have tried many fixes, outlets, charging devices etc. I am actually picking up a new phone today but if it is the software problem I am afraid I will have the same issue. My husband has had a Samsung for about 6 years. Not one problem! If this dies not get resolved immediately I will switch product to a Samsung. Apple is going down in their quality. Last issue was the big battery fraud! Now this? Really Apple you should be all over this considering your recent history!!!

Not sure what is going with apple lately. But i just updated my iphone 7 plus to 13.5.1 and after that it the whole battery scenario start. My phone will literally shut down on it’s own even when my battery is at 80%, which has been happening for the past week. I don’t really write complaints but this product that i spend my money on is getting ridiculous. My wife has an iPhone 6 and battery is perfect no issues at all and she never update. So with that being said, i wish I did not update at all. Apple please fix this crap, you know how annoying it is when your talking to someone and stupid phone just shuts off!!!! And don’t tell me to buy a new version if iPhone. Smh.

Apple Music is killing my 11 pro max. Music was running 20+ hours in the background and the device would get hot. Did all the things, but finally had to reset the device and restore from backup with the Music app deleted. Today after 4.5 hours of the same daily use, I have 83% battery life left. If there's no fix soon, my apple music subscription will be no more.

I dropped my phone and had to send it in to have the glass repaired. Apple upgraded the iOS without my consent and now my wonderful phone has the overheating and battery drain issue. CLEARLY its the iOS. and I cant down grade because my iCloud backup choices are limited to very recent with the issue, or my xs. So I cant downgrade. I hate Apple

I have commented about my iphone battery issue last week. Well it got worse, now my iphone won't even turn on. And with this pandemic all Iphone store are close, which is a pain. Only if they did not have this update my phone would been perfect, now is ruining my life. Smart tech in apple please fix this issue, smh.

Last week this problem started for me. Battery overheats and is now unable to charge. I have tried everything and nothing helped. I re-installed my iPhone, I installed iOs 14 Beta (for some this might help) and also didn't help. I was in the Apple Store the other day and the genius told me it was not because of the iOs 13.5.1 that these problems occurred (...). So now, with no options left and no warranty, I am once again using my old iPhone. Considering to change to Android with pain in my heart.

Also, Apple would never admit it's the iOs update that's causing the problems. I think they were pretty rude with my on the phone, as well as in the Store.

Ive tried everything listed on this forum. I don’t use dark mode, battery doesn’t show apple music usage at all, i installed 14 Beta. Phone is still hot all because i broke my screen and Apple repaired it, upgraded my software and now i have the problem. i did not ask for an upgrade i had a cracked screen!!! thinking about going back to my 7 for a while

Same here. I have old phone and was fine until I allowed the ver 13.5 update. Batery is new and usage last all day until two weeks ago. Now phone starts and dies after a few hours and when phone reboots on chargeit will show as high as 40% full and two minutes later its showing 27%. Had it plugged up today and was showing it charging and the battery % going down not up. No problems until update. Not buying a new phone. FIx it! Can't be on conference call two 10 minutes off charger and dead in 15 minutes. Just silly Apple isnt going to force a new phone to me. If so I'll switch name brands its been fine. I dont need updates on old phone. I was happy! Get me back to real battery life.

This is my third time complaining about this idiot update. Having my phone being shut off automatically even its at 80% is very, very, very frustrating specially when your on a conference call or an important one. Is getting to the point where I want to throw it out the window, and I’m sure apple will love that so I can buy a new one. Freaking fix this stupid update because I’m 100% sure I’m not the only who is frustrated.

With an upgrade, the use of your iPhone is supposed to improve, not degrade.

Taking all these measures by SravanKrA, which are straightforward to conserve battery power are ridiculous if before the UPgrade [sic] there were no such problems as I have now.

It's not the iPhone settings I have to change to get a workable iPhone, it is Apple that has to address this ridiculous downgrade to 13.5.1

Besides....it took 25 minutes to download the 'upgrade' to my MacBook Pro (and I have a lightening fast internet connection) which with iTunes gone you cannot even follow the progress, and it took 12 minutes for my iPhone XR to install 13.5.1.

I wish I never did this downgrade to 13.5.1

A furious customer......!!!
