iPhone 11 speakerphone cutting out

My girlfriend and I both have iPhone 11’s. While talking to each other if one of us is on speakerphone the other catches every other word. This happens on both phones, if I activate speakerphone she only here’s every other word and vice versa if she activated speaker phone. If you turn speakerphone off there are no issues. Is there a setting that can fix this? Is this a common issue? Thanks

This has to be an Apple fault rather than a carrier fault. I live in Melbourne and so have an Australian service provider. Is anyone else plagued by iPhone 11 Pro Max making interrupting random calls?

Sarah, I agree with Aquarius . Replacing the phone with another will do no good. I did it three times and all four phones exhibited the same problem with Cutting out while you are on speakerphone. Either the hardware, software or firmware are defective . And since the iPhone 11 Pro has now been replaced by the 12, I don’t think Apple is going to expend money or energy to fix last years model. In other words, we're screwed....

Just had my wife try turning off noise cancelling and that didn’t help, but here’s what we discovered. When she has the phone laying flat, it doesn’t do it. When she puts it standing upright ( vertically, normal FaceTime position for example ), it cuts out. Even if the is in the air with a stand selfie stick, vertically, it’ cuts out. But holding the phone sideways (portrait mode), it seems to work fine.

anyone can try this see if they have the same results?

I have the same issue but I noticed it happens when there is back round noise of any kind. What I did was go into "Settings", "Accessibility", "Audio/Visual" and then turned Off "Phone Noise Cancellation" option. I think when there is back round noise the phone picks up on that too much. This helped some but the speaker phone should still be much better. The whole point of using the speaker phone is usually when your hands are full doing something.

My oldest son was making comments that he didn't have similar issues on his older iPhone. He upgraded to iPhone 12. During his call, his wife said he was cutting out. He assumed it was his cell service. I did a quick test and he has the same defect. The demoralized look on his face.

Here's a quick test. Call someone with your defective phone. While you are making a loud continuous humming into the phone via speakerphone, the other person starts talking. If your phone has the defect, the person talking on the other end will notice you humming cuts out as they are talking. During same call, switch to not using the speakerphone and repeat the same test. You shouldn't cut out. That shows it is literally the phone and not your service carrier.

That's not a resolution actually. That is a work around. The reason I personally use the speakerphone is to better hear. Turning down the volume for me is counterproductive.

Today I got a response from their support saying "I am sorry you are still having the issue with your iPhone.  You can submit feedback on Apple products at apple.com/feedback". That site states, "We cannot respond to you personally, but please know that your message has been received and will be reviewed by the iPhone Team. If we need to follow up with you on your ideas for improving the iPhone, we will contact you directly." It seems to me they have no intention on resolving this defect.

Note: My oldest son never had issues with his iPhones. He just got the iPhone 12. Boom, he has the same defect as well now.

I am beyond frustrated that Apple has not even attempted to fix the problem. There are 5 of us that all recently “upgraded” to the 11. The speakerphone issue is absolutely awful. We also spent $$$ for cases to protect this crazy expensive phone. After seeking answers, we learned that those expensive cases, even those sold on Apple, are part of the problem. (There shouldn’t be a problem like this). New cases were purchased that do not have any coverage over the entire bottom of the phone. Apple wants $40, but the same case on Amazon is less than 1/2. All 5 of us changed out our cases and the problem has improved greatly. Not completely, but better for sure.

I’ve had the same issue right out of the box, 11 Pro 256G. My moms phone is the same and my hubs 11 Pro Max 256G is also doing it. The speakerphone has some kind of interference that also confuses voice activated systems, aside from confusing people! Bluetooth car stereo is ok, but I haven’t tried calls with a headphone/set. FaceTime is just as bad and totally pointless anymore. I’d rather watch an actual mime, at least they are completely silent. 🙄 My phone is currently at Apple for repair...fingers crossed they actually get a clue that there’s a big problem with their $1200 waste of money.
