iPhone XS screen right side not responding for touching

Hi! Ever since I upgraded to 13.6.1 my screen’s right side faults to respond touching . It’s very strange because it doesn’t work all across the edge straight from the bottom to the top (see the screenshot, I tried to fill a note with a pencil). I actually have to flip my phone and type horizontally because the buttons on the right aren’t reachable.

Yesterday I tried switching the screen to larger mode in the settings and then switched back to standard and it helped for a while. But then it failed again and remains unresponsive until now. Any ideas what it could be caused by and what should I do now? I didn’t go for repairs service yet cause it doesn’t look like a hardware issue. Thanks!

Yes, turned out to be a hardware issue. Prior to going to the service centre I tried everything to eliminate the problem with the iOS, software etc, that is I did a hard reset and then restored as a new device. The issue still persisted. I even activated developer mode/profile and upgraded to iOS 14 beta 5 and still got the issue.

Same issue here on a XS max, right side of screen stopped working, forced to use left handed keyboard. Has to be some software or hardware bug for so many people to have the exact same screen malfunction. Went to an Apple store and they said I would have to pay $329 to replace the screen. Apple should support fixing this under their Apple service programs as it is definitely not something that happened because of the consumer. Apple step up and FIX THIS!

I’ve been facing the same issue for last couple of days. Very frustrating and disappointing! I have been using iPhones for 8 years now, and this is the first time I’ve faced any issue. Turned out it’s been happening to with X, 11 as well.

It all started with iOS update and the fact that it’s widespread, I don’t think it’s a hardware issue. Additionally, my faceid has also stopped working same day. That’s very strange! :(

So another update to this issue. I'm now experiencing it for the second time. Since the last update noting has changed whatsoever. Same iOS - no screen protector etc.

Charged the phone overnight (left on charge around 12am and took off 7am).

Waiting for iOS 15 - anyone else had any further look contacting or getting Apple's attention on this?

From what I'm reading all over the place is this is certainly a software issue.

@Apple really need to look into this as I cannot continue to use my phone like this.

Just tested and I think it has something to do with the temperature.

My iphone x started this problem 2 days ago, I upgraded to 14.6 and it worked for a few hours, the next day it went back to this problem again, so I just tried to warm it up as it's cold at my place, and I'm able to type letter p now.

Not sure how long this solution will work, I've called apple support but they have to check lots of things and cannot provide a satisfied answer.

I took my iphone to apple last week and they did nothing whatsoever. To be honest i wasnt overly surprised but the outcome was its out of warranty and definitely a screen issue. They advised to change the display which would of cost be £286. More than the phone is probably worth!

Sold it instead, managed to buy a second hand iphone xs max in the same price so a free upgrade so to speak. iSmash are charging a reasonable £140 with a lifetime warranty (doesnt include damage) in the UK.

I dont think apple will do anything about this. From what they told me, if this was a software issue a lot more users would be affected and apple would've heard of it by now.

Will continue to monitor this as it'll be interesting to see how this play out. Apple are clearly to blame. My iphone was brand new and i can not exaggerate its condition. Easily pass it off as brand new. Never been dropped. Always in a case and protected with a screen protector.

Time will tell...
