Battery drain after iOS 14 update.

I had installed the new ios 14 and my battery drained from 90% to 10% without me even touching the phone. This has never happened before.

Please Apple fix asap.

Hi, you can check this: iPhone Battery and Performance

Check the battery health, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & if the maximum capacity is less than 80%, you need to replace the battery on your phone.

You can restore your phone as new:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If the issue persists, you can take your phone to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Book an appointment on getsupport.apple.com or use the Apple Support app.

Apple is not here, we are just Apple users.

Power usage will be higher after an iOS install as the phone needs to rebuild its internal databases.

Also, quite often apps that are not compatible with the new operating system will get stuck in tight loops, using lots of battery - check to see if any of your apps are shown as using a lot of power under the Battery tab in Settings.

I believe there may be a software issue in iOS14.0.1 that causing excessive battery drain. I am having a similar problem, even though battery health is rated at 88%. The problem appears to be related to the Notes app and widget because even though I use the app only occasionally, the battery usage panel says that Notes "background activity" and "widget" is responsible for 23% of battery usage and that the runtime is over 10 hours.

It is definitely a software issue with iOS 14. My wife's phone was working perfectly until we updated to iOS 14. I just tried the fix posted above by cpickrell and it did not help. Followed the steps exactly as listed in the article with her watch and phone. Phone still shuts off after only 10 - 15 minutes of use when it says it has a 100% charge. It won't boot back up unless it is plugged into power. Then plugged in the battery indicator is red stating 10% or sometimes less power. This is so frustrating, since she cannot even use her phone. Apple needs to get this fixed NOW!

I contacted Apple support last night and they ran I hardware diagnostic on the phone. Came back fine, so they suggested I take it in to an Authorized Apple Service provider. Scheduled for this Friday.

This is the worst part, now I go into the Battery Health screen and it states: "Important Battery Message Your battery's health is significantly degraded. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the battery to restore full performance and capacity." The maximum capacity states 91% like it did before the restore when following cpickrell's link above. This important battery message was not displayed prior to me following the steps in the link above. Now when I take the phone in tomorrow, of course they are going to say it's the battery, when in fact it is NOT the battery and an iOS issue.

This phone was in PERFECTLY working condition without any battery issues prior to installing iOS 14. This is so frustrating as the phone is junk now. Apple needs to get this fixed.

I've noticed a very similar issue with my phone. It's been over a week that Ive been experiencing this on my iPhone Xs (so the indexing theory isn't relevant any more). I've tried 14.0.1 and it didn't help at all (been on that for two or three days) I went from getting all day battery (no less than 50% left each day at 11pm) to being at 10% by 5pm with only moderate use. This was NEVER an issue until upgrading to 14. So telling me to turn of all the things in the background etc. that I was doing comfortably before 14 is not an answer TBH.

updated to 14.0.1 immediately when it became available but have not seen any difference at all.

I was told by apple level two techs that my phone had software issue. Then the next tech told me to do a factory reset. The third person asked me not to reset as it wont fix the battery drain issue. The fourth level two tech I spoke with is trying to blame my battery although the second tech I spoke with confirmed my battery is healthy at 86%

Depending who I speak with I get a different opinion.

Frustrated since 9/23 when I upgraded to iOS 14. I had no issues prior to the upgrade.

Another thing I notice is not only does the battery drain EXTREMELY fast, but is also charges EXTREMELY fast. For example I just pulled the phone off of being charged for 4 hours, opened Facebook watched a couple videos and posts for 4 minutes and watched the battery percentage drop to 97%, 83%, 82%, 23%, then the phone went black and nothing. Plugged it into charger and it went from 6%,10%, 23%, 64%, 92% and now 100% in a matter of 5 minutes. Sometimes the battery will last longer, maybe a max of 15-20 minutes. This points me to believe it is a software issue and not hardware (battery) issue, especially having this not happen until iOS 14 was installed.

I have a similar problem. The battery is in good condition but is now being drained almost overnight following the iOS 14 update. I did notice however that the main drain on the battery power the first day was maps, (despite me not using maps at all that day). I have now turned off maps and the main drain is now showing as Siri, (which I never use). I have just been through almost every thing I can think of to turn off Siri and am hoping this helps. I am wondering, given the previous threads if the problem might lie with the new widgets or with some connection between Siri and the Health app? Certainly the issue is clearly a software one as this problem has only just arisen since the iOS 14 update.

Took the iPhone into Best Buy (Authorized Apple reseller) and they ran diagnostics. Battery was cycled 816 times and had 91% capacity. Tech said it was really odd the phone was stating “service” on the battery health and mentioned it may possibly be a false positive. Left as there was nothing else he could do. Called Apple support to see what my options were and it was to replace the battery or wait for the next update. For $50 we replaced the battery back at Beat Buy and low and behold it is now working! I honestly did not think it was the battery since the phone was working flawlessly before the update. Something with the update triggered or did something to the battery. I’m just happy the phone is working again!

Same thing with me, mine is also 7+. Battery drains fast after the iOS14 update. Batt was at 60% before I sleep and woke up at a dead batt in the morning. Also turned off all the unnecessary apps and all to save battery but still draining fast. After the update I charge my phone more than my usual once or twice a day charging. Also phone starts to heat. Have it fixed please.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro with a battery health of 91%. I charge my phone every night, I may get a few text messages during the day at work but other than that I don't use my phone at work and by 5pm the battery is less than 20% charged. This issue started right after I installed iOS14. It is definately and software issue. The Battery Usage by App says it the Home and Lock Screen that is draining the battery.

The actual “notes” app that comes on the phone. That is where it said it was using a lot of my battery and it said it was running in the background for a long time. Nothing was supposed to even be running in the background but that app kept drawing from my battery nonstop. I deleted it and reinstalled and haven’t had a problem since. Not sure if that’s the problem app everyone is having problems with but you can check. If you go into settings, then down to battery. If you scroll down on the page it shows how much battery time is used on each app. If there’s one that seems like a crazy amount of time, it could be the problem?
