Battery drain after iOS 14 update.

I had installed the new ios 14 and my battery drained from 90% to 10% without me even touching the phone. This has never happened before.

Please Apple fix asap.

Hi, you can check this: iPhone Battery and Performance

Check the battery health, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & if the maximum capacity is less than 80%, you need to replace the battery on your phone.

You can restore your phone as new:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If the issue persists, you can take your phone to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Book an appointment on getsupport.apple.com or use the Apple Support app.

I found a fix of sorts, maybe it’ll help someone. (please note that I had only battery issue after update; no heat issues)

I noticed a drastic performance drop in battery after upgrading to iOS 14. I’m using an iPhone 11 with 95% battery health, so this was really concerning. I noticed that Apple added a lot of location based widgets in the original widgets screen (I’m not talking about customized Home Screen widgets here like clock or battery, which shouldn’t really consume too much battery). After removing all of those widgets for a test run, my battery performance seems to have improved a bit. I wouldn’t say it’s back to exactly what it was with iOS 13, but it’s definitely more manageable.

Let me know if you find a solution.

I have tried everything with no result.

Apple reps were contradicting each other while looking at my issue.

One of them said it was a software issue. The next tech said, I needed a fresh install of the iOS, the third person disagreed and didn't let me do a fresh install. The last person I spoke with at Apple blamed my battery. But the first person had checked my battery and confirmed I don't have a battery issue.

Frustrated as I have spent several hours listening and following the techs instructions to check anything they asked me to.

My conclusion is that it is easier to blame the battery even though Apple's own level 2 tech advised me my battery is still in good shape and can handle iOS.

The battery on my iPhone 6 SE was working just fine before the iOS 14 update, I could easily go for a whole day without recharging and come home in the evening with over 80% left. Now it is emptying at a frightening rate. Exposure Notifications was identified as using a lot of battery, but switching it off doesn't help. I updated to 14.2 this morning and recharged the battery fully afterwards. It is now only 4.5 h later, I haven't used my phone at all and it's already down to 60%, so no improvement. So it's definitely iOS 14 and not something else, don't come with general advice about battery health.

I installed 14.2 just a day ago and... (I really don’t want to get my hopes up too soon, but) it seems to have fixed the issue for me! Went almost 18 hours on a single charge with mild use on a 9 month old iPhone 11. Keep in mind though that I’ve always had Background App Refresh off, location services accessible only by the apps I really need and no heavy location-based widgets, so 16-17 hours on mild use was something I was used to before iOS 14. (I’m mostly connected to WiFi the whole day, thought I should mention that here because it uses a lot less battery than 4G)

It’s still early days though, I’ll check if it keeps it up the next few days and leave an update here :)

As I said before, 14.2 did not help. Battery Health is at 99%, so that's not the issue. Before iOS 14 I could leave my iPhone 6 SE unconnected overnight and it would only lose between 1% and 5%. After charging it fully last evening, it was down to 60% this morning, in 7 hours without any use (WiFi on).

Is there something wrong with the charge indicator? I haven't yet dared to let it go all the way to 0%, but I'm curious to see how long that would take.

So now on 14.1 and odd behaviour of my IPhone SE (1st gen) continues, charging overnight, battery is 100% in the morning, disconnect phone. Screen goes black and I get a progress swirl. Then battery indicator is 10%. So I force a reboot, and after that, battery is now 100% and is working normally. Will post again if have any new info. Have seen this regularly before upgrade to 14.1 but never before 14.0.

Update: the last time I charged my iPhone 6 SE (to 80%, says Battery) was at 6:30 PM on Tuesday. The next morning, the battery was on 1%, and it had been at that level since around 2:15 AM on Wednesday. It is now 9:15 AM on Thursday, and my phone is still fully functioning on the Tuesday charge, so it has been on 1% for 31 hours! It is now clear to me that this is not a battery issue, but a battery indicator issue. I am now hoping that by letting the battery discharge completely, the indicator will be put on the right track again. I just have to wait until the charge runs out, luckily I'm working from home at the moment.

It reminds me of the old car my father once had, with a faulty fuel gauge, he had to keep track of the kilometers in order to determine when to fill up the tank. But that was around 1980, you can surely do better than that, Apple!
