iPhone camera not working after iOS 14 update

Hello... after I updated my iPhone 7 Plus to iOS 14, my camera acts up. It doesn't load the camera. I then try to turn on the flashlight but it doesn't work either. Sometimes, I try to repeatedly turn on and off the flashlight until suddenly it works. I then come back to the camera and keep switching the camera modes, and rarely, it functions. Once I exit it an try the camera on an app though, it doesn't work again. Restarting didn't help my problem.

Hi, you can check this: If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working

You can restore your phone as new:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If the issue persists, you can take your phone to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Book an appointment on getsupport.apple.com or use the Apple Support app.

Good decision. I dropped back to my iPhone 6 so I can take phone calls. I am so much happier even the screen is tiny. Maybe that justify me to get an iPhone SE 2 if I want to spend the minimal

and still stick with iOS. should I do that?

no more 2 x optical zoom button, small screen.

if 14.0.1 does not fix the mic, I am not going to try. It trivialize that the issue is camera preview. It’s not, it doesn’t even take picture when you cannot “preview”.

The camera problem in 7 and 7s is solved in 14.0.1, no need to install 14.2 beta.

The mic problem is not solved. by this, and I expect no software update will do it , since apparently the stress caused by the update broke something in the hardware. (See link in one of the posts above about the chip and the need to repair it physically.)

I would suggest that all of us with a mic problem contact Apple support and let them hear from us. The more the better, so that they recognise the problem and issue a recall programme. Perhaps this discussion should switch to the mic problems now that the camera issue is solved.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, I had already installed the 14.2 Beta. Can’t go back now.

I have contacted Apple Support for the Mic problem as well. As you mentioned, the update has caused some hardware damage and it won’t get resolved by any update. But Apple needs to take its responsibility as it has been caused due to a fault in their update. Hopefully they come up with a solution. It’s annoying how we have to carry the Airpods at all times.

@ChrisMoody12: I sincerely hope you are right and that Apple issues a software fix.

When I called them (about a year ago, when the problem happened) they told me it was hardware.

For me the mic stopped working after upgrading to iOS 13. I have the impression that many people now have the same problem with the mic after upgrading to iOS 14.

This is strange. If everyone has the same iPhone and the same software issue, everyone must have had it with iOS 13.

Not sure what to make of this. Either my problem is different than the one of those who got it after iOS 14, or there are slight hardware differences between different iPhone 7's across the world that made the problem appear with different iOS's. Just thinking out loud...

Same here. My Mic stopped working and the speaker button greyed out after iOS13. Had it been a software issue, it would have been resolved by iOS14. It is probably something to do with a chip which got damaged. This is what I gathered after searching on the internet. Ofcourse, Apple is keeping mum about it even after so long and after so many complaints.

Just search google the mic problem in relate to iPhones 7 and you’ll see quite a few videos about how to fix. However, none of the methods seems to be user serviceable. Your mic went bad, mine went bad, many others went bad. Apple says their diagnostic ran fine. A fix cost (see repair cost web page on apple site). No offering on fix or replacement. Not yours, not mine. Not his or hers. The posts keep flooding this forum and others on the internet. Deny deny deny that it’s apples fault.

Great. I hope Apple Support is atleast capable of dealing with these crazy Mods, if not the Mic issue. It’s about time they called the iPhone 7 models which have their Mic damaged coz of iOS13. It’s not possible to carry Airpods all the time and might land us in trouble in case of emergencies, when the phone would be unable to perform the very basic function it’s meant for ...CALLING

it could lead to some serious consequences for an individual.
