iPhone camera not working after iOS 14 update

Hello... after I updated my iPhone 7 Plus to iOS 14, my camera acts up. It doesn't load the camera. I then try to turn on the flashlight but it doesn't work either. Sometimes, I try to repeatedly turn on and off the flashlight until suddenly it works. I then come back to the camera and keep switching the camera modes, and rarely, it functions. Once I exit it an try the camera on an app though, it doesn't work again. Restarting didn't help my problem.

Hi, you can check this: If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working

You can restore your phone as new:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If the issue persists, you can take your phone to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Book an appointment on getsupport.apple.com or use the Apple Support app.

Best advice I can give everyone in this thread is to keep contacting apple support over and over again until finally someone helps get ya device fixed or replaced.

I just kept contacting them every week until finally I was ready to give up and Apple Care called me one Sunday and had me to do Apple Care screen share with her and seen first hand what my phone was doing. Then she offered to replace my 128GB 7+ with 128GB iPhone XR. Which I'm receiving today from FedEx.

Yea well they aren't being as helpful to me. All of the folks I've spoken with keep telling me it's a hardware problem, despite being caused by a software upgrade and they want me to pay over $300 to fix it. I've done everything from screen shares to show them to allowing them to collect logs for 24 hours to trying a bunch of different things all to no avail (microphone continues to not work). It would be nice if someone read this, realized that breaking things with software upgrades that apparently cannot be fixed is bad for repeat business.

I have received a call from apple support and they confirm that i will receive a replacement phone for my iphone 7+ and i will receive a confirmation mail for this replacement within 3 businesses days and i will get the new phone (I phone Pro as they promise) through a box.

Two weeks almost passed and i have not received any email confirmation. When i call them back to ask for the confirmation email they told me i have to send my phone first at my cost as they do not usually send box for out of US customers and in this case and if it was a technical issue they will replace it with the same model (Iphone 7+) and when i told them that this not what was communicated earlier they told that it was a mistake from the employee.

i was very disappointed at the end

Like I’ve said few times above. Keep calling each week, keep sending in reports. I was at the point of giving up and upgrading when one random Sunday I got a phone call from Apple Care/Support. The lady was very helpful, nice. She had me run some test and she could see I had done a lot of restores recently tryin to fix the issue. So she done a Apple Care screen share. Had me make phone calls. And also called me to test it out. Once she confirmed my case and issue. She then offered me a replacement device. The took bout a week to finally get my device.

Thank you very much for sharing your case. I really want to do the same but the problem is where I live we don't have such a support. I talked to Apple Support via chat and got an ID for my case however when they referred me to a Authorised Service store, the ppl here immediately asked to charge money for just doing hard reset which I had done by myself. Then, they said they would not fix anything except the camera, screen and battery problems. Anything else they would only do a replacement with a 7Plus phone subject to pay 300$. It is not right. Also, I don't want to get a replacement phone. I want to fix, this phone is a souvenir to me.

Same case. After being contacted from Apple Support in US for this microphone issue and get promise for replacement and confirmation email. They have asked to call local apple authorized centre in my country as they do not send box out of US. I have contacted the local authorized apple centre they ask for repair charges as my phone is out of guarantee or if it can not be repaired i have to pay around 500$ for replacement of the same device 7+.

I hope if Apple could send replacement for those who have microphone problem and live outside US

Good for you ChrisMoody12!

In my case Apple US said they would replace my iPhone 7 and send me an equivalent model (not a 7 cause that is no longer available). That they would send me that first if I gave a CC as guarantee and I could send mine afterwards and no charge would be made to the CC. They said that I would be contacted by support in my country.

Since they hadn't contacted me a week later I called them myself. They had to look it up, but eventually found the case. They confirmed all the above and offered me an SE 2nd generation. A few days later I called them again cause they hadn't contacted me back. A new person told me that the CC arrangement was not possible, that both the previous person and the one in the US had given me wrong information. So I would have to send my phone to them first and they would send me the new one afterwards. Not nice, but I agreed. They said they would call me the next day...

... Almost a week later I am still waiting for that call.

I have an iPhone 7 (normal, not plus): Since iOS 13 no mic for anything (phone calls, voice memos, Facetime, video recording, etc.). After discussing with Apple support in my country, doing all the tests they asked me to do, and from what I researched on internet, it appears that this was a manufacturing issue that became apparent after the upgrade. After upgrading to iOS 14 the camera and flashlight stopped working. Upgrading to iOS 14.0.1 solved the camera/flashlight issues but not the mic. My understanding is that the camera/flashlight was just a software issue, but since the mic problem is a hardware issue (even if caused by the software) this can't (won't) be solved with any new software upgrade.

My impression was that, like in my case, 14.0.1 solved the camera/flashlight problems for most people in this thread. But I see a few messages passing by here of people (like you) that still have the issue in 14.0.1. Did you try the new 14.1 (released yesterday)?

Before this I always thought that a software upgrade wouldn't break the hardware. (I know this is in principle possible, but I expected a company would not release a piece of software that could damage their own product.) But after this experience, I am now more cautious before upgrading.

It was about a total of 2-2 1/2 week process for me. Week going through all the approval, week for me to first send my phone and get new one back. Sent my old one off last Wednesday to them. They got it Friday and Saturday night I got a tracking number for my XR and it came in Monday morning. I just stayed on them. Kept up with my case id number so I didn’t have to say everything over and over and would have them search case Id when I called it.

So disappointed with Apple as my whole family is supporting Apple for years.

I am facing this issue since last IOS update and about 1 month ago.. We can’t even use a basis function of a “PHONE”.

Talked with Apple Support (done factory reset, restores, etc) and went Apple authorized services centre several times and they concluded that it is hardware faulty and need me to pay for repair cost!!

Hopefully they will provide me a win win solution! Appreciate it!!!
