iPhone camera not working after iOS 14 update

Hello... after I updated my iPhone 7 Plus to iOS 14, my camera acts up. It doesn't load the camera. I then try to turn on the flashlight but it doesn't work either. Sometimes, I try to repeatedly turn on and off the flashlight until suddenly it works. I then come back to the camera and keep switching the camera modes, and rarely, it functions. Once I exit it an try the camera on an app though, it doesn't work again. Restarting didn't help my problem.

Hi, you can check this: If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working

You can restore your phone as new:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If the issue persists, you can take your phone to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Book an appointment on getsupport.apple.com or use the Apple Support app.

I’m having the same problem! When I got the iOS 13 my microphone stoped working and now with the new iOS14 ( which by the way I thought it was gonna solve my problems) my cámara stopped working to!

your products are really expensive but we still continue buying them because we trust your brand! But now I’m really concerned about it you must solve it !!!!)

it’s not possible that every time you want to develop a new IOS it bring us more complications than solutions !

6 of us in our family have purchased brand new boxed iPhones ranging from iPhone 6us to 8plus. I’m on my 3rd replacement phone in one month. A 7plus- the camera suddenly stopped working today. The 8plus is malfunctioning too with different issues, the 3 other 6plus have also been replaced . This is ridiculous. We are all thinking of switching back to android. After doing research I’ve discovered through Forbes etc that Apple update 14 could be the issue. Hardware can’t handle software kind of thing. Apparently Apple are keeping quiet on the issue. Really?? This all sounds like crap and I’m sick of the inconvenience of all of this. Let’s get some feedback coz you are stuffing everyone around including the suppliers

Thanks for your insight. This is true; those millions are lucky, but all us here do have this problem. So it is an issue. It appears Apple may solve the camera issue in 14.2; hopefully that will come out soon. But the mic issue was not solved after iOS 13, so that is not going to be solved by software. As someone wrote here before, if you take your car to the garage and when you take it back home a few items that were working fine before do not work anymore, you expect the dealer to fix them. Apple should do the same. That's all.

not everyone is familiar with apple support and internal company process and workflow so we just complain wherever we can. apple discussion board sounds like a logical place. responsible manager should keep an eye on suspicious threads that may need some attention rather than waiting for support cases numbers to tally up.

i wasted *6 days* and i am, still struggling on getting my phone back to a proper working state as iCloud restore fail when phone gets too hot during restore.

I opened a support case first via the apple support app and got routed to one engineer, asked some questions, tried few things, ran remote analytics, then they say no problem with hardware, will speak to a senior manager, wait for half an hour, call get dropped. i called back with the same customer number, "how can i help you, can you tell me what's happening?" , support person did not read the case notes until i finally request to do so rather then going thru the whole explanation. then they asked me if i have done a full hard reset. i say i did. oh , that hard reset button reboot is not a hard reset. they asked me to wipe my phone clean and reinstall the os and test from there. i couldn't because i ran out of space on my computer.

i made an appointment with apple and brought in to apple store for a backup and restore so they can do test on the machine.

at the store, the representative and I agreed not to do a backup and restore and just do a wipe and run local analytics to see if the hardware has fault. that was for the mic and not for there camera. the camera i mentioned there was a work around (which i am not allowed to mention on this board or they will remove my post, again).

diagnostics ran but fail because wifi cannot be found.

outside diagnostic, wifi connects with zero problem.

sorry, cannot help you. you can leave with a phone with bare os and no content. Have a good day.

I received a email today asking me about support staff/case experience at the store.

i rated a 4 out of 5, very friendly and compassionate support staff.

but couldn't solve my phone problem.

I have contacted apple, visited apple, came back. i have work around. but my iphone 7 is toasted until next update. for now i'll roll back to iOS 13.7 even there is a work around with iOS 14. I don't know what else could go wrong. so i better restore my machine back to 13.7 before they close the window of allowing the signing of 13.7.

the restore is still failing so i am verifying if my 13.7 image is valid.

What unsupported or I should say what dangerous methods are you referring too? As I’ve kept up with this thread and not one thing someone recommend is dangerous or will harm your phone 😂.

Reverting to a prior version of iOS has never been supported and may indeed be dangerous to your data and perhaps even the device.

This is because firmware is often updated with a new iOS release, and the combination of the new firmware and the old version of iOS may not operate properly.

Wrong. It has always been supported in downgrading. Apple had me to downgrade my spare 7+ over the weekend to see if camera fixed or was still bugged out 😂

any time you update or downgrade there is a chance of losing data why they tell you to do a back up!

there is no harm to the device doing this only losing data. But if you have ya back up you have nothing to worry about.

If Apple Support directly walks you through a procedure, that is only at the direction of Apple Support in your specific case, it has never been supported for the general public.

I would like to believe you when you say mic is a software issue. Do you have insider info, or own experience with the problem and how to solve it? Please, share! :^) When I talked to Apple (after upgrade to iOS 13) they told me it was not a software issue.

@William Kucharski: I appreciate your comment. I did call Apple when the mic problem came up and discussed it at length with them, but they did not acknowledge it was an issue of the update (see some of my previous comments here or in the thread about the mic problem; link above in this thread)

If it wasn’t supported they wouldn’t give the option to do it! Or leave a iOS open for you to downgrade for over a week at a time sometimes longer 😂

You may not want to believe it, but it has never been a supported procedure for the general public.

They may not acknowledge it at this time, but the issue does get passed along to engineering if it's seen to be affecting a number of people.

I confirmed this with 2 senior managers over the phone. I made a post on here about it.

basjcally I bought a spare 7+ for cheap on iOS 13.4.1 and I was on phone with support they ran diagnostics on both phones both came back good. I proceed to upgrade devices to iOS 13.7 via iTunes. Mic stopped working on the device and couldn’t use phone or Siri any longer. Upgrade it to iOS 14.0 camera, mic and flashlight quit working. Then I updated both to iOS 14.x and camera and flashlight started working but mic didn’t.

after videos and 2 days of being on phone with senior managers at apple support and linking them to this thread they said they would push this to dev team of iOS to get it fixed. My wife’s 7+ on iOS 13.4.1 works fine because I turned off updates on it.

Interesting . Firmware change . That explains .

My my mom’s iPhone 11 was always on auto install on auto os upgrade. I turned that off for her the night I ran into problem.

i am all good now. I have a spare iPhone 6 running iOS 12. I can make phone calls and take pictures. I was surprise her WhatsApp can restore all my chats from iCloud.

I like to keep my old iPhone 7 Plus because it’s a red edition.

I lost all hope by now. I reported the problem of the mic about a year ago and they closed the issue on me. I got a request to evaluate the service, and I wrote that my problem had not been solved, and that was it. I never heard from them again. Given that many others here report the same issue with the mic, and I presume they contacted Apple when this happened to them, they must have a clear picture that there is a problem, and that this is not a careless user who dropped the phone and broke their mic. How long do we have to wait to hear back that this was a design issue and that they would repair our phones with the costs on them?
