iPhone keeps freezing after iOS 14 update

iPhone X keeps freezing with new iOS 14 update. Will freeze in any app or even sitting idle and will go to black apple screen and restart. Factory reset did not fix it.

I called Apple Support and they told me to do a force restart. Shut down your phone. Wait a few minutes. The press volume up followed by volume down then power key and wait for Apple logo to appear. This resolved my issue and no app freezes since then.

I had the same problem and took it into an Apple store 3 times.

they reset it all to factory setting twice and I was still having the problem. They finally replaced it as I had Apple care. If I hadn’t it would have cost £400.

the funny thing is it carried on freezing up, then after a couple of days it just stopped. I don’t know when, I just realised it wasn’t freezing up anymore. That was 3 days before the 14.1 updates came out. I updated the phone just in case but I can say I’ve had no problems since and I will be very reluctant to update again.

My iPhone 11 Pro Max tried to do the update over night to the new iOS 14 and when I woke up the apple logo was stuck. It was so strange. My alarms went off and siri worked to turn them off; however, the logo was frozen. I was so annoyed initially because i could not get my alarms to shut off.

Now I had to plug it into iTunes and am hoping this will fix it. It is taking forever. This is definitely not the way I wanted to start my day. I wish the automatic updates were turned off.

Regarding the 14 upgrades it’s really a downgrade.

Freezing, crashing, it’s just a bad way to go a lot of my friends have left Apple and got over a Samsung they say it’s great so I don’t know Apple I’m disappointing Apple I don’t think it’s a way for them to try to make more money. I doubt that they just didn’t think it through and they need to fix it before more people leave I’m pretty disappointed myself I don’t know what I’m gonna do yet I’m thinking about going to a different phone system though because I use this as my work phone and I’ve always depended on Apple because it’s been so dependable but it’s just not anymore. So really it’s no better than anybody else and Samsung has really great reviews

i had same issue yesterday , i was using facebook instagram tik tok then swiped up and went to settings and then changed my wallpaper and while i was going to swiped up and back to tik tok it froze became unresponsive screen only bottom line was appeared on black screen until i force restarted it , what do you think is that ios 14.2 problem?

I think that a fault in the coding of ios14 stalls processing which slows down the running of any open app at the time, and this is the problem that you’re also seeing. I find that after a minute or so things get back to normal, but the stalling repeats more frequently after that. It’s temporarily resolved by a hard reset - on iPhone X rapidly press volume up, then volume down, then hold down the right side button until the Apple logo appears. This ‘fixes’ mine for perhaps a day or so before the stalling starts again, and then I repeat the reset. It’s a pain in the *rse.

For me, 14.1 helped with the poor battery life, and 14.2 lessened the frequency of the stalling problem, though it still happens.

Perhaps by iOS 14.4 Apple will have fixed it. It’s especially annoying because iOS 14 has given me no benefit in operation, just some simple and pointless gloss and bling that I don’t need and would gladly sacrifice for the reliability and consistency of iOS 13.

Once again, it’s as if Apple deliberately generates faults on ‘older’ phones (remember when iPhone X was being advertised as the greatest ever phone 🙄) to encourage (coerce is probably a better word) customers into replacing their phones with a new model).

I see that a number of critical posts have been removed from this thread. They were reactions from people to their poorly responding phones. Is this normal policy here to remove such things?

Anyway, regarding the freezing problem I strongly recommend that you upgrade to iOS 14.3, it’s made the response of both my iPhone X and iPad better.

I’ve tested the iOS 14.3 upgrade for more than 24 hours and can confirm that my earlier finding above doesn’t hold, and that it hasn’t fixed the app stalling issue. It’s particularly a problem in Safari and email. In Safari, an issue still exists on my iPhone X whereby if I scroll up and down a webpage it resizes the page before crashing.
