iPhone keeps freezing after iOS 14 update

The first morning after I updated two iPhones, 11 pro and 11 pro max, both kept freezing. But, by the end of the day and now, that has stopped! Could it be that ‘things’ that were working in the background to complete the installation caused the problem?

Anyone else have this miraculous fix?

It happened to both of my phones but stopped freezing by the evening. I figured it was freezing because it was still doing work inside to update everything. We used to see that on the screen but not this time. I did mine in the evening and by the next evening it was perfect and continues to be so. Good luck.

It’s very odd but that didn’t happen. It stayed on most of the night with just the icon. Today I worked with a tech for quite a while. I used the quick volume up, quick volume down, then hold the power button until the icon vanishes and it’s a black screen and keep holding until the icon comes back and then let go. It didn’t work a couple of times, but eventually it did. So to my amazement, my phone is fine again. I have removed automatic updates to prevent this from happening and basically I’ll keep my fingers crossed everything will be OK.

Thanks for the update, it’s great that you got phone working again. I’d be interested to know if that combination of button actuations is a universal fix though. There seem to be plenty of variations of this glitch in the forum. Having to do all that, while trying to make an emergency call would be pretty difficult to do.

IOS v14.0 is behaving more like a beta version of an o/s. Hopefully they do the right thing and tell everyone else not to install v14.0 until they get it sorted.

We both have iPhone X and we did the update and ever since when we go to text sometimes the letters aren’t appearing for a couple of seconds and apps have been freezing up just sitting on the screen doesn’t make any sense the phones were perfectly fine before the update this is definitely an Apple iOS 14 issue my phone was perfect before I did update and have never had issues with any other updates previously like this. I have froze several times since update

I spoke about this a few days agoAfter I had been on the phone with Apple support. No improvement. The only thing I fixed it for us to do an iPhone recovery. I no longer have a delay with Siri, opening apps, and the battery does not ring

Same here. iPhone 11 Pro Max. This issue has been around since two betas prior to the GM and, sadly, it persists in 14.2 beta. Reported this to Apple already via the Feedback site. My phone is barely usable as it this now. Apps freezing and then crashing at random. Google Maps is in the worst condition so far. It always hangs and then crashes when switching to any other app and then back to it for navigation and even manages to crash when it is the only app in the foreground. Then I will have to open it several times before it is stable again, if only for a few minutes. It is astonishing Apple released iOS 14 final in such a condition. Never happened to be this upset with an update before.

I'll add the times I've most frequently seen this happen:

1) swiping an app "up" to go to the home screen

2) trying to get to the app switcher

3) When texting, after sending a text sometimes it freezes

4) Loading content while scrolling facebook/twitter (on echofon)/instagram

5) general use of phone otherwise

Hi! I was facing certain issues after the iOS14 update. My phone was freezing everytime. Even while capturing photos or screenshots it used to be frozen.

I have updated with iOS 14.0.1 this morning and faced no such issues since.

hoping all these bugs are fixed by this update. Give iOS 14.0.1 a try.

Depending on how much you have on your phone, it takes a while to continue updating in the background. Let it be for a day or so. After it is working well, go to your App Store and hit your photo on the upper right to see if you need to update older apps. If it says update, do it. Good luck! Also after it works well, do the 14.0.1 update. Good luck.

I got FULL SET problems with my iPhone 11

FaceID stopped working right after iOS 14 update.

Apps freeze.

Random black screen (lighted up) when wake up.

I almost DESTROYED my iPhone hitting it against wall thinking it will help after magic Apple solutions like factory restore - pray to all gods etc. :/

So it’s been like 3 days my messaging will work for like 30 minutes then freezes again, so I have to reply to messages from my laptop. I’ve toggles with iMessages and turned off text forwarding. Still messed up. So is there gonna be a third update to fix this!

Had daily freezing and hanging in all sorts of apps since upgrading to ios 14 on both an iPad and iPhone.

Did a forced restart, and voila it is fast, no freezing, and I'm happy again!

One note is when you do hold the three buttons down together the logo flashes and turns off. Release and hit the power button again to restart and my problems are fixed (for now anyway!)

Same here, iPhone 11 Pro Max. iOS 14.0.1. Can’t swipe from home screen. Everything’s frozen for half a minute each time it happens, usely after picking up phone. Have restarted iPhone twice, after each update.
