Face Id not working after iOS 14 update -iPhone X

Hi, my iphone X is suddenly not recognizing my face after the iOS 14 update yesterday. I thought a face id reset will solve the issue, but it is still not working. When trying to set the face id, it is showing the error of ‘move the iphone a little higher/trlower’. Nothing works after multiple attempts. Is this an iOS14 issue?

SOLVED: Hi everyone! I had my appointment with Apple Genius Bar today. This is a faulty hardware issue. This is not related to iOS 14 nor will it be fixed with a new update. Sorry to say you'll have to pay $650 to replace your phone. Luckily I was still under my 1-Year limited warranty. The employee told me there is a chip in the hardware that has failed. Thankfully I walked out with a new phone at no cost. But I wanted to share my experience in hopes that it gives you some answer to this issue.

Did you forget to include the link ?

Whether it’s a h/w issue or s/w, this is insane. We pay for quality not for issues, I’d be better off with a pixel 4a than spending money on a iPhone. Apple has stopped caring for their customers due to the massive increase in their revenue but they forget one thing, if the customers can get them to the top spot then they also have the power to bring them down.

I’ve even tweeted about this issue with a link to this thread and I request all of you to join by RT or commenting with a slight hope, the chances are slim but this is the best we can do.

Okay I get that, so in my case and in a fair few others who have reset their Face ID, why would it not let us store a new FaceID? I am genuinely interested in your opinion as it would be good to go to Apple with some counter points for when they try to tell me its Hardware.

I would expect the software to act differently to a FaceID request and a portrait mode request. Yet portrait no longer works. My point is that, I can't remember the last time I used portrait but it was a while before I updated the software so I'm not sure I can rule out the reasoning in Kittell's post.

per wikipedia:

The Face ID hardware consists of a sensor with three modules; a dot projector that projects a grid of small infrareddots onto a user's face, a module called the flood illuminator that reads the resulting pattern and generates a 3D facial map, and an infrared camera which takes an infrared picture of the user. This map is compared with the registered face using a secure subsystem, and the user is authenticated if the two faces match sufficiently. The system can recognize faces with glasses, clothing, makeup, and facial hair, and adapts to changes in appearance over time

so i guess somehow they forgot to turn on the mapping...

Hi Uygar73,

many thanks for your reply.

I did as you suggested and did overcome the first problem: I was able to set up Face ID ( I had disabled it in order to re-do it but was never able to get it back to working) without the error message that I have to wait until the phone has cooled down. So I thought the problem is solved. But the moment I switched on Face ID for my phone I was told Face ID is not set up. So I went to the set up of Face ID and now get again the message Face ID cannot be set up I have to wait until the phone has cooled down. The phone is at normal room temperature.

So unfortunately this did not solve the problem on my phone but thanks much for the reply and suggestion. It may work for others.

They settled a class action on a similar issue where they admitted or got caught doing these things to sell new phones: they fines them 500,000.000.00 which is only 25.00 per person they owe because of the suit. That’s pennies. Plus they recovered by excluding the chargers and advertising it’s being green when it’s green in the pocket of shareholders. They will not be effected or blink and eye because they own stock in electronics and glass that go into other phones. I enjoy my product less because of this and agree to keep it as longgggg as I possibly can. Pathetic = Apple in my opinion.
