Face Id not working after iOS 14 update -iPhone X

my iphone X is suddenly not recognizing my face after the iOS 14 update. I thought a face id reset will solve the issue, but it is still not working. When trying to set the face id, it is showing the error of ’‘try setting up face ID later’’.

Hi, I’m experiencing the same problem as other people here and what sucks is that the iphone i’m using is newly bought just 2 days ago. The face id worked just fine at the first day of use and then it started to become inoperable after I updated to ios 14. I’m using iphone 11 pro max.

Stanley read this and all of the replies. Most of them state that FaceID worked until updated to iOS 14. I am not stupid and would swear an oath, make an affidavit, sign a statutory declaration that the following occurred. FaceID unlocked the phone. Plugged into computer. Backed up. Updated. Restarted. Then this.

unfortunately , I downloaded IOS14 and after i faced issue for face id , and i tried many time to reinstall ,but still same issue .

i use iphone11 pro .

I have the same issue on iPhone 11. That said, this same issue occurred during the last update as well and it magically fixed itself a week or so later - I’m hoping Apple will fix this soon. It’s driving me bananas!

I have the exact same problem, Face Id is not working since the ios 14 update, I've done everything recommended by support, reset phone, reset face id and even restore factory settings and still not working. Hope with the next update this will get fixed

iPhone XS - I also am having problems w this update. When I am greeted w the Face ID set up screen it looks like the camera is having issues focusing on a face and keep on trying to correct itself. When going to Snapchat or Instagram the front camera works fine

Does anyone else’s Facebook still work mine doesn’t since the upgrade gives me some weird movement error. Along with Face ID not setting up and I called and did all they said nothing works. It just keeps saying mover lower move higher and then Face ID failed try again later

I've bought iPhone 11 (with iOS 14) with cracked screen - I've replaced it as many times before (I am technician) and....... FaceID is not working!!!!! I was fighting with it for FEW HOURS!!! Trying adjust cameras - flood illuminator - dot projector etc. NOTHING!!!!!!!!

I am 100% sure it was working.

It looks NOTHING hanged with Apple since iOS 13 and DOZENS updates till iOS 13 was........... usable :(

- Proximity sensor - Automatic brightness - "red dot light" visible on other iPhone camera when video setting on - sharp selfie photo.

If ALL those test from video are passed - it means it is iOS14 PROBLEM

I also lost the use of FaceID after the upgrade to iOS 14. Worked with Apple support resetting and factory defaulting with no success.

They made an appointment for me at the Apple Store. Here now and they are telling me that they are showing a hardware error and this is the issue. It’s extremely weird that FaceID has worked up until the upgrade. Of course my extended AppleCare warranty just ran out so it’s out of pocket to fix. This is extremely frustrating.

It has to be a software issue. 40+ people couldn’t have updated to iOS 14 and at the same time damaged their phones in some way where the red light doesn’t come on. Software can mess up signals with the red light.

Yeah I agree. Apple support will ask you to send it in as it comes across as a hardware issue.

However I checked the light sensor (needed to view through another camera) and it works but usually it would flash where as it seems to be a solid light this time round.

Too coincidental that it happens to this many people close to the update. Hopefully Apple picks this issue up sooner rather than later

UPDATE - at the store they set a callback with an Apple Support member. I lucked out with the most knowledgeable, understanding and empathetic support person at Apple I've ever spoken to. He took his time studying the previous chats, calls and store visit notes. He had me perform a bunch of tests including a remote diagnosis where everything came back fine. At this he reviewed my recently expired AppleCare warranty and had me hold so he can speak to a supervisor. He came back on the phone and informed me they would perform a repair/swap as a one-time courtesy.

I solved the problem!!! Face ID relies on input from the face camera AND something called the TrueDepth camera. The true depth camera is a little green light that comes on when needed in the joker right portion of your screen — I think it maybe projects a grid pattern onto your face that aides in capturing the contours of your face. If that little green light (or maybe something near it) is blocked or obscured, faceID can’t gather the data about you face that it needs to work or even to be reset. Simply clean off the area of your screen near the little green light and FaceID will work again!!
