Face Id not working after iOS 14 update -iPhone X

Have you had your screen replaced by a non verified technician?? That may be the problem, Apple makes it as difficult as possible to repair new iPhones without going to their store.

Is the DOT PROJECTOR! Is the sensor that is caused this... Bad dot projector. Apple is chinesse quality.

Bar news updating iOS 14.1 only making my iPhone X Face ID work half day, after that the issue come again, so I must turning off my phone 3- 4 time just for making Face ID work again

My main point here is that there isn't a troubleshooting guide to fix this. You'd be better off with a techie over the phone or in the store.

No, most of issues are due to dot projector not working anymore.

Same here on iPhone X. Wiping the phone and restoring from a backup did not help. When setting up, I have the same “move iPhone (...)” messages. It looks like the camera is trying to get a fix, but with no luck.

After update my Xsmax with iOS 14 it began with the same problem.

try to reconfigure Face ID but it it doesn’t work.

The reason I think is, that at the same time, both cameras quit working. Only a black screen. In addition the flashlight doesn‘t work.

I have an appointment tomorrow at Best Buy. I’ll keep everybody updated. Based on my experience:

• it’s a software issue
• resetting back to factory settings won’t work
• Apple isn’t aware of the issue or it’s not high enough on their radar that folks have a prepared statement “we are aware of the issue, wait for a software update”

Because it is the same as with ie. MacBooks - You update to new Big Sur - FIRMWARE will update (with macOS) You downgrade to Catalina.......... YES - macOS will downgrade but........... firmware......... NOT

There are many small "firmwares" in iOS in iPhone like Baseband etc.

I have the same issue. My Face ID on IPhone XS stopped working after Installing iOS 14 and my selfie portrait camera stopped working too.

it keeps saying “Move iPhone lower/higher”. I’m hoping for a fix from Apple.

I contacted Apple a second time they have decided that it’s hardware issue and they want me to send them my phone in there isn’t a Apple store near me. I told them I can’t go days without a phone when almost 800 comments say that it’s not just me having this issue and that very strange how that many people would break their hardest for Face ID at the same time they updated to iOS14

Nothing has fixed it for me.

1. Reset.
2. Basic troubleshooting.
3. All the methods mentioned in the answers.
4. Restore from itunes.
5. visit to the service center.
6. call with apple support.

All they say is we have checked the software side, it might be a hardware issue. I think we'll just need to wait for the next ios release to see if that might fix it.

I've updated to Beta 14.2 and it still did not fix the issue. I've restarted my phone, deleted passcode, re=entered passcode and nothing. it still says "move lower/higher" and is trying to focus but does not detect.

front camera portrait mode says "move farther away" but never focuses and does the background blur.

All this, on my iPhone X, has happened since I installed the official iOS 14 update. I had run the beta version since it released and never had an issue...
