Hi, my iphone X is suddenly not recognizing my face after the iOS 14 update yesterday. I thought a face id reset will solve the issue, but it is still not working. When trying to set the face id, it is showing the error of ‘move the iphone a little higher/trlower’. Nothing works after multiple attempts. Is this an iOS14 issue?

SOLVED: Hi everyone! I had my appointment with Apple Genius Bar today. This is a faulty hardware issue. This is not related to iOS 14 nor will it be fixed with a new update. Sorry to say you'll have to pay $650 to replace your phone. Luckily I was still under my 1-Year limited warranty. The employee told me there is a chip in the hardware that has failed. Thankfully I walked out with a new phone at no cost. But I wanted to share my experience in hopes that it gives you some answer to this issue.
I'm the same, and i have followed all the online steps, recently updated, hard reset, factory reset and went through online support and diagnostics tests. (front camera working perfectly fine).
The online chat advisor thinks it is a hardware issue although there is no issue with the camera and it has only happened since updating the software?
They have said the phone needs to be sent away which will take two weeks (with no temporary replacement) or book an instore appointment. (i have booked a store appointment in a few days time and will leave an update once i have been).
If anyone has found any other solutions for this, please can you let me know?

The problem is not solved. I have installed every upgrade there has been after the very unfortunate upgrade to iOS14 and the phone is still a piece of junk now. All issues persist: when faceID fails the message is: tray again later when the phone has cooled down. And this message comes all the time no matter if the phone is hot or luke warm. When I try to reinstall/set up again Face ID the message is: You can set up Face ID later when the iPhone cools down.
In general I have totally minimised usage of the phone any background activity etc. I barely use it. The moment I use it it gets hot like crazy too hot to hold against my ear when using the phone and the battery drains within 4 hrs. Nothing has changed since over 6(?)month since it auto upgraded to iOS14. . Since the phone is with me since over 2 years it is clearly not a hardware issue. It is a software issue.
Apple shops/ginious bars at a minimum should help user to go back to iOS13.7 so we have full functionality of our phones.

did you do my Dot Projector test - it takes about 30 seconds - Camera - Portrait - Selfie and Natural Light - can you tak a photo?
Just try to cover your selfie camera while resetting your face id

I don’t understand that. TrueDepth camera is working with Animoji. But with Face ID and in portrait mode not. In my opinion this is software problem, not hardware. What do you think?
on my POV it doesn’t have to do with hardware failure...its their update/software..stored data requires hardware to compare your face if it matches then the phone will unlock...
