The option “predictive” text seems to lag some text input, especially whenever there are more than one keyboard installed on the iPhone.
Since I’ve upgraded from an iPhone 6s to a iPhone SE2, the keyboard seems to lag for 2-5 seconds, spewing out the keyboard buffer afterward.
Isolating the issue:
1/ I already did “Reset Keyboard Dictionary” which did not work at all for the Dutch keyboard.
2/ Turning off “Predictive” takes away the bug entirely, which isolates the problem to be only with predictive input.
3/ The problem is active with the phone connected -and- disconnected (airplane mode) from the internet, which isolates it to a local problem of the device.
4/ As soon as I use the Belgium (Dutch) keyboard, it starts to lag again, which isolates the problem towards the predictive input of international keyboards only.
5/ The bug is however not active when an alternative keyboard is in use (like GBoard) and when reverting to only one language in the keyboard settings available, like English (UK) in my case while typing in this report.
6/ Additionally, the keyboard does not put capital letters at the start of a sentence, which might be part of this bug. This was not with my previous device and my iPad 5th generation.
This problem seems to be reported through the discussion forums before, but without extensive research what exactly is causing the bug. This post has a temporary solution for this issue, including an extensive diagnosis of the problem at hand.
I didn’t get any lag at all using the English (UK) keyboard, which might point to the different languages available in the keyboard settings of iOS.
The problem is not reproducible on an iPad 5th generation, even after upgrading to the latest iOS v14.3, so it might be not in the iPad iOS.
With friendly regards,
Gunther.

Additionally:
The English (UK) seems not to have lag at all when I delete all other languages from the General / Keyboards / Keyboards menu.
solution: use only one language in General/Keyboards/Keyboards, in my case it works perfectly by only having English (UK) enabled. No lag afterwards anymore. I use an add-on keyboard for a secondary language.
Even when having two additional keyboard add-ons enabled, the English (UK) keyboard seems to work flawlessly without any lags-spikes. so it has to with the internal extra keyboards available in iOS 14.3
When I install Dutch (Belgium) additionally:
When I install Dutch (Netherlands) on top of the 2 languages:
As soon a second keyboard is installed, the lagspikes are noticeably high. I got a video recorded if any of the developers like to see the effect/lag on the keyboards.
Resetting the keyboard dictionary does not offer any solution for the extra keyboards installed and the 2 add-ons GBoard and Numerical do not have any lag at all.
I had the same issue. First I tried resetting the keyboard dictionary as some have mentioned. It didn't work for me.
However I tried something else I found on Google. I disabled the Facetime and disabled iMessage. Restarted my Phone. Then re-enabled Facetime and iMessage and it seems to have stopped being laggy. So far so good.
Someone previously mentioned disabling FaceTime and iMessage then restarting your phone. When restarted enable the apps and you should no longer have a lagging keyboard. It worked for me so is worth a try.
Asanokatana - You seem to be incapable understanding this basic concept so I’ve done you a favor by explaining this in great detail. Now there’s no excuse for your continuation in being absurdly ignorant..
You’d do well to keep your trap shut if you’re going to be a toddler that’s throwing a hissy-fit and feels the need to be disrespectful. Perhaps you’re not able to apply deductive reasoning to figure out different scenarios as to why someone may have posted in this specific way, but one way: could be the person's first visit and doesn’t know the ins-and-outs as opposed to someone that’s been using the discussions portion of this site for awhile.
I’m not going to lie and say I would do the exact same thing as Bbg_Tayy. If I have a question and I’m unfamiliar with the layout and what shortcuts are able to be used, guess what.. I’m going to start my own thread and ask my question in the only way that’s apparent to me at the time I need an answer. I couldn’t care any less if a multitude of people asked the exact same question I have.. I’m going to ask the question.
The keyboard lag is the worst (terrrrrible) in Notes. I use Notes a lot so this is no bueno! Apple pleeeeeease fix!!! I tried resetting the keyboard as another user suggested but this did absolutely nothing to help with the lag in Notes. I don’t seem to have the issue in any other app. Just Notes. I guess that’s a lower priority item for most users...
Update: More history I have in my text messages without clearing the dictionary, the worse the lag gets. Its so annoying. Whatever bug "fix" you did in the last update totally ruined the dictionary. Is there a bug open?
obviously they don’t care since there have been three updates with no resolution to the lag issue. going to upgrade to the 12 Max for 5G and this will be my Last iPhone ever - after my two yrs are up its back to an android where the tech is better and support is better as well. Apple - going the way of Microsoft - using the customer as their beta testers. no thanks.
This is exactly why this is my first and last Apple ever. Currently researching which android phone to go back to now because at least their keyboards never lag like this. Apple claims it was fixed and lied about it because it's just as bad as ever.
I have the same problem only with tap emoji icon
Omg! How do I unsubscribe from this thread? I want to stop getting the emails every time somebody replies here. Thank you so much!
Not sure why it bothers you to the point you need to make some snippy comment.
i Agree
Just so we're being honest on this, this is a work around, not a fix. They obviously introduced a bug somewhere along the way that needs to be fixed.
Yes, the lag in Notes makes it unusable now, far worse than the lag in text messages, which itself is beyond bad.
