Additionally:

The English (UK) seems not to have lag at all when I delete all other languages from the General / Keyboards / Keyboards menu.

solution: use only one language in General/Keyboards/Keyboards, in my case it works perfectly by only having English (UK) enabled. No lag afterwards anymore. I use an add-on keyboard for a secondary language.

Even when having two additional keyboard add-ons enabled, the English (UK) keyboard seems to work flawlessly without any lags-spikes. so it has to with the internal extra keyboards available in iOS 14.3

When I install Dutch (Belgium) additionally:

  • the delay with English (UK) is between 1-3 seconds, so mostly ignorable.
  • the delay with Dutch (Belgium) is between 4-10 seconds, so slightly irritating.

When I install Dutch (Netherlands) on top of the 2 languages:

  • the delay with English (UK) is between 1-3 seconds, so mostly ignorable.
  • the delay with Dutch (Belgium) and Dutch (Netherlands) is between 6-15seconds, so highly irritating.

As soon a second keyboard is installed, the lagspikes are noticeably high. I got a video recorded if any of the developers like to see the effect/lag on the keyboards.

Resetting the keyboard dictionary does not offer any solution for the extra keyboards installed and the 2 add-ons GBoard and Numerical do not have any lag at all.

I’ve had this keyboard lag in Messages on my Xs Max ever since updating to iOS 14. iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2 also didn’t fix this issue. After reading several suggestions on this thread, here’s what I did and so far it has fixed it for me.

What I did:

  1. Reset keyboard dictionary
  2. Turned iMessage off and back on again
  3. Hard reset

It may be the placebo effect lol but I haven’t experienced it again so far. I’ll update here if it ever does happen again.

Same here! Just signed up community account to complain this! It really annoying and distrupe my productivity when working on my phone. Also really bad there is no way I can switch back to iOS13! How come Apple will launch a big version upgrades with such bad UX issues? Really cannot image how Apple differently than in the past.

It's not slight lag for me... Ever since i updated to iOS14 beta, it has been sooo lagging. I was hoping the official version would fix it... but it has been such a disappointment. I had to literately switch to Mac to use iMessage so i am not so frustrated typing on my iPhone 11... It is bad typing in English, much worse typing Chinese.

The worst thing is it is so not consistent. Sometimes it is fine, but sometimes it is just so lagging.

I am having the same issue (iOS 14.0.1, iPhone X, 256 GB). The keyboard lags, especially when switching from one app to iMessage. I’ve done a reset, and it seems to fix it temporarily, but then the lag comes back.

This is exceptionally frustrating, especially given the fact that the keyboard is such an integral part of the iPhone.

This is a communication tool, and the primary means of communication is glitchy. This needs attention, ASAP.

Same on AppleTV. Had to remove YouTube and reinstall just to get it to scroll. I’m not updating to 14.0.1 who knows what that will go wrong. Agree that we pay hundreds of dollars for the AppleTV and thousand for phones. Sad part I was showing off the AppleTV to a firetv user and they giggled and sad you can tell it’s an Apple product. Please fix.
