iPhone Fitness app and Apple Watch Activity app not syncing

Ever since I updated my iphone to ios 14 activity app isn't working properly.

Indoor walk gets recorded in the watch but does not show up in the activity app, outdoor walk workouts are missing, route track map does not appear any more. I tried restarting phone and watch and even unpaired and paired the watch again but no luck.

Does anyone else has similar issues?

Looks like there are lots of bugs in activity app in ios14

I too had this same issue.

I've been working with Apple Support and engineering to fix this, well my problem at least.

I'm happy to say that all is fixed for me, my maps, awards, move streaks are all there and showing.

To start, make sure your data is really there. Look in your health app on the phone.

go to Workouts then scroll all the way down to Show all workout Routes

Tap that and see if the data is really there.

If it is here are the steps that Apple gave me to follow and it worked.

This involves wiping the watch and the phone.

You must use the iCloud back up

  1. Make sure that under iCloud, you have toggle on Health Settings>your name>iCloud>Health>make sure this is toggle on
  2. UnPair your watch from the phone (Watch>All Watches>Your watch tap the !> then tap unpair Apple Watch
  3. Perform an iCloud backup Settings>your name>iCloud>Backup>Tap back up now
  4. In the health app, tap your picture bubble on the top right, scroll down to the very bottom and make sure that the data has been back up. It this does not show the correct date, do nothing else as it will fail and your data will not be correct.
  5. iPhone>Settings>General>Rest>Erase all contents and settings
  6. Restore iPhone from iCloud backup
  7. Repair your watch to the iPhone
  8. Restore Watch from iCloud back up

This is what I was told to do and it worked.

Proceed at your own risk.

They released an update tonight...watch os7.0.1 and iphone ios 14.0.1...but it never fixed the issue that everyone is having!

i’m having the exact same issues as everyone else, sync problems in short, but also my watch is not writing sound data to the phone neither, which has also been deleted since i got the series 5 back in october last year. However, i have noticed that all data since before the updates to the two new OS’s are still technically there, the problem is that the health app cannot read this data! If you go onto health app, click the top right picture, go to privacy, then devices, you will see that all of the data is infact there. However since updating there has also been writing issues from the watch to phone, including sound, active calories, resting calories, exercise mins etc...when i look at the watch it is telling me the sound level but it is not writing this data to the watch!

ReadTania - Yes, I am in the same boat, losing the maps from workouts prior to upgrading to iOS 14 was not what I was expecting from this process. For that reason, some people on here recommend holding off from performing the phone and watch backup/restore procedure. I am still hoping we get some help from Apple on this. And the issue you are describing with the stand time vs stand graph is something that also happened to me prior to following that support document. I read the support document as a way to restore the basic functionality of phone and watch.

CarlyL1003 - The jury is still out on this, you can find people here on the discussion pages with very different results:

  1. The procedure not only restored how phone and watch should work as advertised by Apple (heart monitoring, maps for new workouts) but also brought back maps for workouts prior to upgrading to iOS 14. This is what most people expect after following the support document.
  2. The procedure restores how phone and watch should work, but maps prior to upgrading to iOS 14 are still missing (and perhaps are lost forever). This is my current situation.

In either case, workouts after upgrading to iOS 14 and prior to following the procedure are considered lost as the data has never really been synced to the phone and into the iCloud backup. I assume that’s your definition of “missing workouts”. Anyway, that’s my current understanding of the situation.

I have a similar issue. I noticed about a week ago that my total calories have been lowered by about 200-500 calories for the same move calories from the past (i.e. 1200 move calories recorded and 2500 calories total burned that day but now the 1200 move cals = 2000 total calories) I tried calling apple and they told me if i unpaired and re paired my watch from a backup it would fix the issue. I did this and it fixed the issue except now the activity app isn't recording any move calories and exercise calories or steps. Only stand time. I am beyond irritated. even unpaired and then repaired as a new watch and i still have the issue. Both iPhone and watch are up to date. All location services and settings are correct. Apple is going to call me this afternoon to see if they can help but online chat support couldn't figure it out.

when I first got my series 6 and the green ring didn’t record my walks at all or occasionally 1-3 minutes after over an hour of strenuous walking, I called support. I explained the problem and told them the green ring would automatically record my walks on my series 1 and 3 but not the 6. They had me do all the things that I had previously read to do from the online help. The First Lady finally gave me to the manager and the manager finally said it was a software problem and that I should get a replacement. She made an appointment for me at the Apple store. I go to my appointment and they refuse to honor the warranty because I had bought it at Best Buy. I couldn’t believe it. It’s still THEIR product! So I get this really cocky guy that claims he can fix it. He worked on it for an hour, then started hopping around and helping other people. He finally comes over, declares that he fixed it and I leave, go home take a long walk and it recorded 1 minute. I then returned it to Best Buy, got a new one and it does the same thing. I’ve pretty much given up (though I’ve remained extremely ****** at Apple) and now I use the ‘other’ to record my walks. It doesn’t do anything-just gives me time on my green ring from when I start it and end it. This really sucks and unless Apple fixes it, this will be my last Apple Watch and probably the last Apple product I buy. They have become extremely expensive, but I pay it because of the great quality and because of their backing the product. They aren’t doing that anymore, why would I pay more for their products?

From top to bottom these are the issues I have been experiencing similarly;

  1. Activity app Move values are significantly off. Total no longer displays height/weight based calculation (or algorithm changed)
  2. Activity app Stand graph is completely wrong. It displays 15hrs as number and way less than 15 bars in the graph
  3. Workouts are not syncing from Watch to Activity app. However, steps seem to be syncing correctly
  4. When the workouts sync, then GPS doesn’t display any map info
  5. Activity app and Health app have significant sync issues especially the number of steps and exercise minutes.

Been having the same issue since updating to iOS14 on phone (iPhone xs max) and iOS7 on watch (series 4). Some workouts show on watch but do not sync with phone. Calories and exercise minutes were being counted. Unpaired my watch thinking it would be a fix and now my workout calories and minutes are not even being accounted for. Really irritating that this is an issue considering the main reason I have my watch is to track workouts.

That is where all my issues began after update to watch os7 on my series 5 as well. Here is what I’m dealing with now:

I did these steps based on community references, no luck. Got chat support, no luck. Went to “Genius Bar” no luck...rep didn’t even know how to turn n Bluetooth on my iPhone XS to trouble shoot watch. Was told to unpair and pair again. It locked up. “Genius Bar” replicated same problem with one of their store phones, so I sent it off with them for repair. Now I’m getting my watch 5 back w/in 24 hours and the off site repair support couldn’t replicate the problem. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Watch os7 and ios14 we’re both installed just lie all previous updates. Watch os7 is seriously flawed at this point along with “Genius Bar” reps. The quotes are for the emphasis on the customer experience I received.

I’m having these issue too, stand hours, workouts and gps data are all not showing up for me or showing up completely wrong.

There was a similar issue with the activity app last year whereby medals for Apple Watch monthly goals weren’t showing up. This was rectified about a month later so I’m hoping they will fix this soon in a software update! It’s very annoying because I can’t see my route maps of my walks or sometimes the workout doesn’t seem to track in the activity app at all!
