iPhone Fitness app and Apple Watch Activity app not syncing

Ever since I updated my iphone to ios 14 activity app isn't working properly.

Indoor walk gets recorded in the watch but does not show up in the activity app, outdoor walk workouts are missing, route track map does not appear any more. I tried restarting phone and watch and even unpaired and paired the watch again but no luck.

Does anyone else has similar issues?

Looks like there are lots of bugs in activity app in ios14

I too had this same issue.

I've been working with Apple Support and engineering to fix this, well my problem at least.

I'm happy to say that all is fixed for me, my maps, awards, move streaks are all there and showing.

To start, make sure your data is really there. Look in your health app on the phone.

go to Workouts then scroll all the way down to Show all workout Routes

Tap that and see if the data is really there.

If it is here are the steps that Apple gave me to follow and it worked.

This involves wiping the watch and the phone.

You must use the iCloud back up

  1. Make sure that under iCloud, you have toggle on Health Settings>your name>iCloud>Health>make sure this is toggle on
  2. UnPair your watch from the phone (Watch>All Watches>Your watch tap the !> then tap unpair Apple Watch
  3. Perform an iCloud backup Settings>your name>iCloud>Backup>Tap back up now
  4. In the health app, tap your picture bubble on the top right, scroll down to the very bottom and make sure that the data has been back up. It this does not show the correct date, do nothing else as it will fail and your data will not be correct.
  5. iPhone>Settings>General>Rest>Erase all contents and settings
  6. Restore iPhone from iCloud backup
  7. Repair your watch to the iPhone
  8. Restore Watch from iCloud back up

This is what I was told to do and it worked.

Proceed at your own risk.

Watch activity not syncing with iPhone has been a chronic problem for me since the Series 1 watch came out. I have a Series 3 watch now and continue to have intermittent issues that don't seem to have any kind of reasonable explanation or solution. Everything will be fine for several days. Then all of a sudden there will be a total stop on any kind of syncing. This can go for days. Then magically overnight the watch activity data just shows up on the phone. During all of this downtime for syncing, the watch and phone continue to communicate with each other for different things. Just not syncing activity data. I have tried all of the suggested 'tricks'. None of them are what I would consider a reasonable long term solution. The syncing should just work plain and simple without any complicated process to shut down A then B, re-pair and restore backups, etc.... Apple should fix the problem for good. I see so many people with the same problem, and I have never seen any kind of solution that consistently works and is reasonable. I would like to see a "force sync" function somewhere on the phone to manually push or pull data to/from the watch. I would even pay for an app that does this. Maybe there is one that someone knows about? It's sooooo frustrating to have all of this nice technology that doesn't quite work. It seems like getting the data to consistently sync should be a lot easier than all of the engineering that has gone into the actual devices.

Well here it is, the moment ive been waiting for...14.1.

Hopefully this update brings back my lost gps data for workouts, my lost active + resting energy, walking + running distance, and stand hours in the health app graph...and also my lost environmental sound levels, all of which suddenly vanished after I updated to ios14 and watchos7.

Not getting my hopes up though.

Ill post my experience soon.

I have had the same issues and contacted the support. I applied their fix including erasing the phone with all the issues it brings (Authenticator apps etc.) and it worked well. For a week. Since yesterday the training ring ignores again my workouts although the training app itself records them properly and transfers the data to the health app on the phone. Meaning my training ring never closes. One hour workout show 3 min on the ring. An hour in health App. This is for me definitely a software problem as the activity app just ignores the data of the training app. But no matter what, I find it ridiculous and I would expect better from Apple support. Very disappointing. I have waited for the new watch impatiently, use an iPhone 11 Pro Max and I am frustrated as **** because I can’t track properly my daily progress and complete the achievements. I seriously hope apple will do something about it like very soon.

Yeah, did two workouts today (two because the watch accidentally ended my workout mid-run - sweaty sleeves do not go well with the touch display as it seems) - watch shows both workouts, but the fitness app only shows the short second part.

This is really ridiculous - about half the data that my watch shows is not synced to the phone - the entire fitness app environment is borderline unusable (syncing calories into other apps, etc.) if not completely broken.

And what I get from Apple - an advertisement eMail that Apple One with the new fitness program is coming - how about fixing the basic function of the App first, Apple?

With the set of updates over the weekend, all of my exercise data has been back-populated through mid-Sept when the issue started, including maps of outdoor activity. It did take a few hours for these data sets to show up after the update. The wackadoo stand hour bars / calorie count graphs were not back-populated. I use a third party sleep app and while that is working normally again, that was not back-populated.

I am having the same problem. My walking workouts are the only one that will sync to the iPhone. My “goal” on the watch for this month is to complete 19 workouts. I have done 2 walking workouts and 4 strength training workouts. On my watch, it says I have 6 of 19 workouts, but on my iPhone is says two. It’s only counting the walking workouts and not all the other ones I’m doing. This is really frustrating.

The data doesn’t sync to the health app either.

My values are all off too.

I tried updating my watch, but it didn’t do anything. I can’t find any solution that works.

Same thing here... I noticed it in September after I upgraded from series 2 to series 4... I thought it was ** to me using 2 Apple Watchs at the same time, being my 2 and my 4 but after unpairing my 2 and just using my 4 the problem persisted... So I unpaired the watch, factory reset everything and it still doesn't work. Everything is up to date and nothing is working like it use to... I workout everyday and I heavily relied on my fitness app to track my progress either running, walking, lifting, HIIT, ect... But now I can only see the summary on my watch and noting on my phone.

The other day I did multiple workouts (Warmup, actual workout and then cooldown) and for some reason only the warmup showed up on the phone.

It seems to get worst!!! Even though I worked out in the last week, NONE of the workouts are being recorded now... I thought the last WatchOS update (7.1) would fix that stupid problem but NO!!! I've been an apple user since 2013 (Macbook, Iphone and Apple watch) and i have never been so disappointed.

We have been patient enough @Apple!!! Do something!!!

the only way I can get credit for my exercise ring is to use the Other option, which I’m not happy about. . I’ve not had this trouble (or any trouble) with my previous Apple Watches.

I advised a friend to buy the Apple Watch 6 before I had these problems and she just had to return hers because sometimes it would charge and other times it wouldn’t unless she turned it off and back on. What’s going on with Apple? Is their software quality going down and do they just not care?

I'm having exactly the same problems. All started when updated to IOS14.2 2 nights ago. My activity app and watch app are both frozen and my watch records my activity but doesn't sync with phone to update the app. I've tried forced app restarts and unpaired and re-paired the devices to no avail. I have an update waiting for my watch but can't even access it as the app on my phone just freezes each time I click on 'General' to access it . I notice people are saying that the 14.2 update has cleared their issues but as that update is what seems to have caused mine are there any other suggestions? Thanks

Nov 26, 2020 5:46 PM in response to alexxxlolo

Mine started working again out of the blue 2 or 3 days after the 14.2 update caused it to stop syncing. I had tried all the suggestions too with no luck. When it did start working, the workouts I had done while it wasn’t syncing were now there so you shouldn’t lose any progress to your badges. Fingers crossed that yours does the same.

If you have done the unpairing and re-pairing, there is only one good reason to call Apple support on this: to make them aware that this problem is STILL not fixed for everybody, no matter what they keep saying. I have called with Apple support in The Netherlands a few times about the issue of this thread over the last few months and frankly: if you've read this thread then you know as much as they do. I got to speak with a few standard support personnel, was handed over to a senior who made promises he did not want to keep a month later, then I was handed over to 'customer relations' who would look into it and report back - and haven't done so after almost a month. I wish I'd spared myself the effort and returned my watch when I still could, instead of waiting and helping them out with my usage data.

Updated to iOS 14.2 and watch 7.1 yesterday. So far, apps including clock, watch and fitness hang when certain buttons are pressed e.g. “done” when setting a new alarm and “general” on the watch app settings!

Watch wouldn’t update software, kept saying there wasn’t enough space on Watch despite not having any apps installed. Restarted both phone and watch to no avail. Unpaired watch and managed to update but now all previous activity data is gone. Error when trying to set up watch from back up!

Now it’s set up, the fitness app doesn’t display any information but the watch seems to work ok.

VERY frustrating. Get it sorted apple!!!

Tried a Fitness+ workout for the first time today; the exercise minutes and calories seem to have synced from my Apple Watch (Series 5, watchOS 7.2) to my iPhone (7, iOS 14.3), but the watch is showing a 343-cal Indoor Cycling workout that isn't showing on my phone. I'll have to experiment with some other workouts/apps (I'm a big fan of Intervals Pro) to troubleshoot. It's not an issue I was having before the latest Apple updates — but it's an important problem for me, since I use a calorie tracker app that's set to scan Apple Health and give credit only for calories burned in workouts.
