iPhone Fitness app and Apple Watch Activity app not syncing

Ever since I updated my iphone to ios 14 activity app isn't working properly.

Indoor walk gets recorded in the watch but does not show up in the activity app, outdoor walk workouts are missing, route track map does not appear any more. I tried restarting phone and watch and even unpaired and paired the watch again but no luck.

Does anyone else has similar issues?

Looks like there are lots of bugs in activity app in ios14

I too had this same issue.

I've been working with Apple Support and engineering to fix this, well my problem at least.

I'm happy to say that all is fixed for me, my maps, awards, move streaks are all there and showing.

To start, make sure your data is really there. Look in your health app on the phone.

go to Workouts then scroll all the way down to Show all workout Routes

Tap that and see if the data is really there.

If it is here are the steps that Apple gave me to follow and it worked.

This involves wiping the watch and the phone.

You must use the iCloud back up

  1. Make sure that under iCloud, you have toggle on Health Settings>your name>iCloud>Health>make sure this is toggle on
  2. UnPair your watch from the phone (Watch>All Watches>Your watch tap the !> then tap unpair Apple Watch
  3. Perform an iCloud backup Settings>your name>iCloud>Backup>Tap back up now
  4. In the health app, tap your picture bubble on the top right, scroll down to the very bottom and make sure that the data has been back up. It this does not show the correct date, do nothing else as it will fail and your data will not be correct.
  5. iPhone>Settings>General>Rest>Erase all contents and settings
  6. Restore iPhone from iCloud backup
  7. Repair your watch to the iPhone
  8. Restore Watch from iCloud back up

This is what I was told to do and it worked.

Proceed at your own risk.

When I tried to unpair it unpaired on my phone but not the watch because it was not recognized by my phone. I had to reset and erase my watch in order to pair it again with my phone. I lost all recent data that was on my watch (mainly my fitness info.) which was disappointing. It is now paired back to my phone. Thanks so much. This was helpful.

I am experiencing the same problems. I just got an iPhone 12 Pro Max, which replaced an XS Max. Both the XS Max and my Apple Watch Series 3 were updated with the latest ios. My Activity App was working just fine. I found these issues once I got the new phone. The phone will tell me to start using the app on the watch, and then the watch will tell me to start using the app on the phone. Haha! The Workout App will work on the watch, but none of my data is transferred to the Activity App as is was on my previous phone. I have tried everything, but it still won’t work.

I had the same exact problem, but I recalibrated for the second time since I got my Apple Watch Christmas 2020. I didn’t know that recalibration I would lose everything, but I couldn’t accept getting only 12 minutes of exercise ring credit for a 45 minute workout, and 8 minute credit for a 1 hour walk. If I have to recalibrate a 3 rd time, maybe I should return my watch as defective.

I have also been having issues with the activity and health apps since upgrading to IOS14. Some workouts are logged on the watch, but don’t show up on the activity app on the phone. It’s quite frustrating, have tried rebooting, resyncing, doesn’t work, and the next day the workout is lost and never ever syncs to the iPhone, looks like a bug, hope there’s a fix for this soon.

I would make sure that your information is up to date in the health app.

Age, Sex, Height & Weight

First force restart your iPhone buy what ever method your version calls for. As soon as you see the Apple logo force restart your watch by holding in the crown and side button for 10 seconds till you see the Apple logo then release. Log into your iPhone and wait for your watch to boot, then log into it.

Failing that I would unpair the watch from the iPhone then pair it back setting it up as new.

I am also experiencing the same issues ever since I upgraded to iOS 14 and WatchOS 7 about 2 days back. While the watch is calculating the correct data, but upon syncing my watch to the iPhone XS, i am noticing the following issues:

  • walking+running distance shown in the Health App (Health -> Activity) is off by a couple of miles for each activity (e.g. outdoor or indoor walk)
  • Total steps calculated is also less for each activity. My watch shows around 18000 steps as of now, but after syncing it, the iPhone shows about 12700 steps
  • The active energy, resting energy, exercise minutes are all showing the incorrect values in the phone after syncing
  • VO2 max is no longer calculated ever since I upgraded to iOS 14 and WatchOS 7

I tried unparing the watch and pairing it again, but no luck. Seems like others are also facing similar issues. I hope Apple fixes them in the next update. This should be fixed as soon as possible.
