Airpod Mic not working properly after IOS 14 update

Settings-->Bluetooth-->Microphone-->Always Right worked I'm my case.

To get started, can you let us know which firmware version is currently installed on your AirPods when they're connected? To find the firmware version, you'll want to place the AirPods in your ears, then tap the Settings app > General > About > AirPods on your iPhone. The information we're looking for is next to "Firmware Version".

The steps below may also help with eliminating Bluetooth interference between your iPhone and your AirPods as well.

You're very welcome! From this information, it looks like we are working with AirPods (1st Generation) and the most recent version of firmware available for them. If you open the Settings app > Battery > Battery Health screen on your iPhone, what do you see there next to Maximum Capacity? If there is a low power supply from either the iPhone or the AirPods, it can affect the signal strength; since the AirPods are working okay with the Mac, we'd like to take a closer look at the power level on your iPhone.

These are excellent details, and help us further isolate the problem to the phone. By chance, do you have another pair of headphones with a microphone that you could use to test? Same issue as well. Went from iPhone XR to the 12 pro max, AirPods works fine for listening to music, but will not access the microphone at all to talk. Did all the trouble shooting thought it was the AirPods itself so bought another pair and no go. It’s the iOS 14.2 firmware. Apple needs to fix it on their side.

That was their solution for mine also. They sent my old ones off. Got new ones and they seem to work now for the times being. Wait and see from the next update if they stay that way or not. Apple support had not helped hardly at all with this situation or given a viable solution.

I’ve just submitted a product feedback report detailing the bug to Apple, with a link to this thread. I would encourage everyone having the same issues to also file one. The more people reporting it, the better.

Went to Bluetooth. “Forgot device” and then re connected. Fixed it for now.

My Airpod's microphone also stopped working today.

Looks like Apple has done something horrible in their firmware. Built-In Voice Memos App is picking only disturbance from Microphone. While the third party App Voice Recorder & Audio Editor is working just fine.

I can't take audio calls or video calls from Google Meet. Apple please fix this ASAP. It's a software issue.

Left airpod mic stopped working - knocking on the airpod sound is coming through but not while talking (right airpod in the enclosure). Forcing mic to right airpod from the settings seems to be working.

On mine nothing helped, automatic detection off, left microphone, right microphone, forget device. Still in phone calls no one can hear me. Witch is very annoying. But the best part is if the ear detection is on, and I've got ear peace in im hand microphone is working, but the moment I put into my ear it's stops working, So in my case Ear detection is faulty, and they flipped the functionality, it's working other way round, compared as it should be.

Exactly the same issue with the same model of AirPods 2 gen. The last 6-7 days that i face it, I have tried everything mentioned here and in other forums/videos. I have updated my AirPods firmware version and reset them and also I installed in my iPhone 11 pro the latest software updates. I have spoken many times with Apple support (opened a case) trying all the above an many other suggestions that they told me to do so but still no solution.

What I realized myself is that when i am outside the house they work perfectly. Also, i realized that when they continuously catch sounds even inside the house (e.g. play music in the background) they work just fine as well. But when there is quiet and no sound inside a close building (not only in my house but in every close and quiet building/room/apartment) then i face the same problem as manolis282 described above.

Apple please do something or please give us the right guidance. It is not a cheap product to throw it away. Also, keep in mind that this problem damages Apple’s reputation…! Please do something urgently!

Same issue for me. Tried everthing, nothing works. The issue is on and off and happens at random. Sometimes the mic works sometimes not.

I figured out that when I ware them and I run my finger over the side they start to work, but if I stop talking and take a break, when I then start to talk again the mic is dead. Run the finger again and now the mic works again.

it feel like the mic shuts down when Not in use.

I had this same exact issue with the mic for over six months, in attempting to test my mic on my MacBook to determine whether the AirPods worked on that (they did) I then reconnected them to my iPhone and the mic randomly started working again. I don't now what that reset did to it, but it works now.
