Airpod Mic not working properly after IOS 14 update

apple needs to address this asap. i got airpods 2nd gen in june of 2020. had this problem after a month, and just stumbled on this thread. i would be listening to music and i’d hold down the audio record in imessage but the microphone wouldn’t pick up my voice fir many seconds, and when it does it’s VERY poor quality audio...(side note: instagram audio message quality is way better than the imessage app). pausing my music before clicking record to give my iphone 8plus processing time never worked,i continued to have the same problem everyone else has.

in October 2020, i got the iphone 11z i updated it to ios 14.2, same problem persists. these are new devices. very dissatisfied with AirPods. l this also impacts the facetime audio- i have to disconnect my airpods to answer facetime calls because friends can’t hear me.

Exactly the same issue for me, no Mic.

Tried repairing, switching left, right and auto for AirPod answering.

Tried on iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 6S running 12.4 and 14.3 and iPad running 12.4 and Mac OS Big Sur - still no Mic.

Hey everyone, I’ve tried for months now to find a community post on this topic because I am having the same issue. I previously had an iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 14 before I upgraded to the 12 pro Max on November 13th. Since the phone was purchased, I have had issues with ALL Bluetooth devices I connect to my phone. I have 2nd gen AirPods, AirPods Pro, and skullcandy wireless headphones, I also use Bluetooth in my car as well. All have given me issues since the first iOS update I received on the new phone which I think was iOS 14.0.1.

my Apple Watch, and IPad are updated to current software as well and I do not have any issues with Bluetooth with them (aw series 4, iPad Pro 3rd gen). I’ve tried every trouble shooting step in this thread, and even did a complete reset on my phone. Nothing has changed. The AirPods work sometimes, then just stop. I’ve noticed that it typically has problems with FaceTime or FaceTime audio. It’ll work longer on regular calls but sometimes they will stop working as well.

It looks like @DannyKC has a new pair that are working and I wanted to find out the firmware version of these. However, it may not be long before this issue is happening to them as the firmware is applied to the airpods when the iPhone has ios14 installed. This firmware update happens seamlessly and is not controlled by the end user.

Same issue.

• Airpods 2.
• Bought in April 2020.
• The microphone stopped working around January 2021.
• Forget device and reconnect fixes the issue temporarily (about 15 min).
• Same thing on iPhone 11 and MB Air 2020.

Hello, I’m having the same issue with my AirPods, when I use my wired EarPods or my beats my mic works perfectly fine, I have the 2nd gen AirPods and my problems started after I installed iOS 14

The new ones that you have, can you tell us what firmware are on the airpods, please? Cheers

After trying the app you suggested and observing the same exact thing, I tried my AirPods with a friend’s android.

They work there as well!

But they don’t with either my iPhone nor my iPad.

Hello I’ve been reading this post after I got a brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max and found my also brand new never used, Apple AirPods Microphone not working I tested it on the voice memo in with a phone call and it works fine. It’s only in messages were the microphone does not work when I press to do the voice to text

Apple is saying I need new airpods since Genius bar and 2 chat sessions can't fix the issue. I will be beyond upset if this is being caused by the update to the IOS because I am buying new airpods on Friday. I need my airpods working.

I am having the same issue... iPhone Pro Max IOS 14.2. Airpods 2nd version, firmware Version 1A673. Just received then today 11/25/20, They pair to both my Mac Book Pro and my iPhone, however, there is no sound from either the Mac Book Pro or the iPhone Pro Max. All other functions on the Airpods work just no sounds.

isn't it just like apple support to disappear when we finally isolate the issue? it's all over this thread, youtube, etc. and seems to have started in this window / update.

does not inspire confidence and makes me want to not patronize an incompetent $1T company.

Same problem,Since the update. I followed all the advice make sure everything was up-to-date. Reset reconnect forget, did it all. Really frustrating when I use my AirPods for everything and I can’t use them for a phone call, or in messenger or in any other app that needs the mic
