Airpod Mic not working properly after IOS 14 update

I am having the same issue. At first I thought it was my AirPods going bad. I have had issues in the past. However I also have AirPod Pros which were working perfect until today. Now both AirPod and AirPod Pros aren't working properly. Very frustrating as I use them for work.

This is very discouraging not seeing any official APPLE reply. I use my airpods ALL the time and still be wildered why I can workout listen to music AND receive a facetime call incoming and incoming calls with no problem. I wanted the new airpods and was going to upgrade my phone but not spending any more with Apple until this is fixed.

Have the same issue with 2 pairs of AirPods 2. It seems like 3A283 firmware just killed the microphones.

MEANWHILE, if I knock the mic hardly with my finger IT STARTS working for a whole. You can test it in native dictaphone app.

There os no Apple Store in Ukraine to go to and all official services jus rejected my request for warranty service.

I believe Apple should firmware fix as far it is just stolen couple of hundreds dollars from our pockets.

Totally frustrating.

AirPod Pro:

Microphone not working I tested it on the voice memo in with a phone call and it works fine. It’s only in messages were the microphone does not work when I press to do the voice to text.

My AirPods’ microphone stopped working on my phone and Mac air after 14 update. I updated my phone to 14.3 and they worked for a few days and went out again. So frustrating, need a permanent fix to this. Tried everything including forget device and reinstalling and nothing works. I didn’t buy these to just use as headphones.

I don't know how Apple flagged this issue as solved while all user still having the issue and I don't see a solution for it was proposed by apple team,

I have AirPods 2nd Generation and the mic starts not working after AirPods pro was release,

I can see many people complaining about this issue and I can't see even a serious action taken from Apple's side to investigate the issue on a technical level.

They offered the same thing- you can send them back and pay $70 bucks for a new pair. Mine were barely out of warranty. I love Apple and every device in our house is apple (3 ipads, watch, phones, etc etc) Once this occurred I really am rethinking my loyalty. This clearly is caused by an update.

FYI,

I had a chat with Apple yesterday,

They offered me to pay 226.87 CAD to send me new pair without the case, while I can buy new pair with a Wireless charging case for exact same price,

what a bad product, bad customer service, and bad product support.

Yeah. I’m thinking that there could be a faulty batch of these AirPod 2’s and after the firmware was updated, it killed the mic’s. Occasionally a caller has said that they could hear me albeit really quiet and for 1-2 seconds, then nothing. Until Apple investigates and finds something, then there is little chance of a product recall or the faulty ones being replaced. At the moment their customer service well below par from what I have experienced over the years with their products. Shame.

I have the exact same issue and yes it exactly happened after the iOS 14 update. My AirPods 2nd generation’s mic stop working sometimes and I’m having trouble making calls because they can’t hear my voice well. I have tried everything and nothing has worked yet. Apple needs to solve this problem ASAP. It’s so unApple way of dealing with problems!

I have the same problem. No one can hear when I use my AirPods. I have tried everything suggested here but it won’t work. I think the problem started immediately I updated the last release of OS 14. It appears to me the problem is down to the software. Apple, please help us. We are suffering indeed.

Same problem. I have 3 Pairs of Airpods and none work. Hey Apple. WTFU and address this issue! You have major shareholders paying attention. Maybe if Tim did not fire Scott F. these Rookie/B-Team issues would not be happening. Ready for my linux phone.

I’ve wrote on AppleSupport Twitter account to see if I’ll get some reply for now nothing, but I can see they are replying for ppl posts. So they just ignored my post. Maybe if more ppl write to them and add the link to this thread, then we will get a reply.

I've been having this same issue. My right airpod just started doing the exact same thing... doesn't really pick up anything when I start talking, but if I talk long enough it will begin picking up my voice. If I stop talking and start again, the whole process starts over.

I did, and after a few generic troubleshooting steps Apple now scheduled a call with “Senior Advisor” for Monday.

so yeah people, please participate also in that Twitter thread. Hopefully this should bring their focus on this.
