Touchscreen acting strange after iOS 14 update

I have an iPhone XS Max and I’ve just updated the phone to iOS 14.

Areas of the screen becomes unresponsive many times during the day. Locking the screen and unlocking it again seems to temporarily fix the issue. Removed the screen protector, and restarting the phone doesn’t seem to fix the issue. Updated to iOS 14.1 and the issue remains to emerge every once in a while during the day making it difficult to operate, navigate and especially type on the phone.

I don’t know what the issue is on your case, however, in my case the iPhone did not have any issues prior to updating it with iOS 14. Also I never poured any alcohol on the screen and my screen is also protected with a screen protector.

In addition, the screen areas that are unusable varies from time to time and ghost touches occur in various areas.

Ive been loyal to Apple for 10 years and it’s the first time feeling this uselessness. I can see this happening if I was using an iPhone 7 for instance but XS Max is not a particularly expired phone in order me to have this horrible experience.

That was also part of what was happening to me on my XS Max. I went to the Apple store, and there was NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. They cannot get the phone back to iOS 13. The phone has become unusable. Finally, I had them switch the SIM card back into my old Note 8. They had no other concrete suggestions. For such an expensive piece of hardware, this is hardly a satisfactory answer. This is likely the last piece of Apple technology that I will buy.

I also have been having the same problem, my iPhone X used to have the ghost touching issue but I went to the nearest retailer and they changed the panel for me and it's been great ever since, almost 2 years with no problem whatsoever. After updating to iOS 14 I'm actually struggling now, the phone's whole screen doesn't respond at all, no restart or turning screen on/off will do the trick it just stops becoming responsive at certain times and it works on its own in other situations. It clearly has something to do with the new iOS update, Apple I hope you're seeing this because no way in **** it's a hardware problem like your advisors say.

Ok Apple, don't try to sell me a new phone. The iOS 14 update is the issue. Swiping down from right corner to get my flashlight... every time it locks up. Totally unusable for about 30 seconds then mini restart and back to main screen. This happened immediately after iOS 14 update. My phone is basically brand new so... no I won't buy a new phone. Maybe this is a Apple marketing strategy to improve phone sales?

same here! i’m experiencing exactly the same like yours, in the first week install ios14 it happened quite often (freeze/ghost touch) like every 5-10 minute of usage, and then upgraded to 14.0.1 nothing change. try go to setting and reset All setting, this seems like temporarily fix but it really works for me, my Xs Max very much less freeze than before, still reoccurring sometimes which it takes several hours of usage before it start to freeze again. x

So far so good. I had to connect to my computer and do a restore. Then when setting it up I had to set it up as a new phone. I was able to go to the App Store and click on the apps I had previously downloaded and redownload them. It was a bit of a pain to redo everything but it works. This is the only way to correct software errors. Restoring from the settings app only reinstalls the problems. I hope this helps.

I too, have been having this problem on a new iPhone SE. My issue was/is that my grouped apps were unresponsive to touch. All of my ungrouped apps did not seem to have this issue. Individually, they launched and behaved as I would have expected. BUT.....as soon as I went to IOS 14, the groups became erratic to touch. Hardware problem?????? Right after an IOS upgrade???c'mon Apple, that's crud. Get it together, get out of the space cafeteria and maybe look at some code. Jobs would have found this completely unacceptable and would be screaming in the halls and a few of those desks might be emptied right now, but Apple QC ain't what it used to be.

I tried the solution that MADHOLM suggested (Go into your keyboard settings (settings-general-keyboard) and disable the slide to type function.) and for the moment, that seems to be working. Grouped apps all appear to be responsive. I'll be keeping my eye on this. For now, my phone has returned to acceptable normalcy

I restored my iPhone X 44 hours ago through iTunes to iOS 14.0.1

And It came back again the "unresponsiveness" the screen literally doesn't respond to any of my touches, and if it was a hardware problem like Apple Advisors say then that means it would have started right away wouldn't it? I'm really angry now because after all of this me trying to fix this there's not a single apple advisor that even suggested that he would run the problem by the software division, that's really infuriating, and we're not a small amount here that are experiencing the same problem, at least Apple let us revert back to iOS 13.7 but no it's unsigned now.

The Slide to type disabling is not working for me anymore. I noticed a slight improvement but it quickly went back to the horrible state of being unusable.

You don’t need an expert to figure out that it’s a software issue, it’s a no brainer. C’mon Apple! Many people are converting to Asian Giants like Samsung and Huawei at least try to retain your loyal customers, not give them more reasons to change to other tech companies. I believe an urgent update must take place ASAP it is very frustrating! I literally throw my phone sometimes because of the unresponsiveness!!!

I thought it was just me having this problem, I thought I got my phone wet so I put it in a pile of rice for 2 days lol. Turns out it is just a terrible software issue, I’m going to factory reset my phone, if it works I’ll let you guys know. It wasn’t too bad on iOS 14 for me, it would happen occasionally but the second I updated to iOS 14.01, the entire bottom half of my phone became unusable.

So listen to this, I spoke to Apple Support yesterday on the phone and we checked every single detail to make sure that he has all the information, now he told me there’s only one thing left, take it to the retailer and call me tomorrow again, if engineers say that the panel is fine then it’s fine, if it isn’t then you have a hardware problem.

I have no problem with this, it actually seems kind of logical, my problem is when I told him that it’s not just me that’s been having issues there’s an entire discussion about this on the website he told me that it’s the first time for him to hear this, and told me that cases like this are considered case by case scenario, so please people everyone schedule a call or something with an advisor to let Apple know there’s a problem, because for now apparently they don’t know.
