Play/pause button not working Apple Tv 4K

joesayegh in the chat forum on Macrumors discovered a work around. The unpause bug is related to audio. Just go to settings/ Video and Audio New/Format and toggle Stereo https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/computers-app-tvos-14-3-unable-to-unpause.2275448/

I had this issue particularly while playing movies/tv shows off the “computer” app - ie, off iTunes on my iMac.

Here’s the solution that works:

Go to settings. Find Video and Audio.

Click on Audio Settings.

Select STEREO - remove Surround, 5.1, and Auto.

It’s the only thing that works and I have no idea WHY. Hopefully an update will fix this.

HERE’S THE FIX.

Turn off Dolby Atmos.

1. Go to Settings.

2. Go to Video and Audio.

3. Scroll down and select Audio Format.

4. Toggle Change Format to On.

5. For New Format, select Stereo.

6. Done.

You’ll be able to play and pause content from the Computers app without a problem now.

P.S. I found this fix. I’m the same person that posted the fix on another website that I’m probably not allowed to mention. Apple thought it would be helpful to everyone to delete my original comment from here that included more information.

I have the same problem, my 4K Apple TV is connected to my 4K tv, but when I connect it directly to my non 4K receiver it works fine. This problem has been going on for months and 14.4 still doesn’t fix this. Apple do you read the post on your own website?

After installing TVOS 14.3 pausing videos on home sharing content locks up both my Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. Only option is to hit the home button a few times. Upgrading to TVOS 14.4 (beta) doesn't fix the issue.

Users on Macrumors forum https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/computers-app-tvos-14-3-unable-to-unpause.2275448/ are having the same issue.

As a work around I'm using Plex for home sharing content.

The only workaround I’ve come up with is a third party app called infuse.

Also works with my none 4K amp.

contemplating buying a 4k amp but don’t want to be stuck with the same issue

It seems that some ATV apps are having user interface problems after the tvOS14 update. Volume control no longer works on a few of my apps. You may have encountered a similar problem with play/pause. For example users have reported Youtube freezing when they press play/pause.

I have now turned auto-updates off in my ATV settings and will wait a week or so to check for user complaints before updating tvOS. Sad that it has come to this!

Same issue, updated to iOS 14.2 and now the play pause button does not work in app dsfile while playing video's.

Menu button does not back up one level inside the app, it just takes you out to the app selection page.

glitchy updates from Apple is unfortunately starting to be the norm, user beware, always check for "update issues" online before updating apple products.

It would be nice if updates on apple TV could be rolled back at least...

For me it’s not a remote issue it’s definitely the software. Got a replacement unit and the moment I updated it to the later 14.2 software...all homesharing content (not on streaming services) has issues playing.

ice been using Olez Pass as a substitute, especially for 4K content.

but half my files still don’t play on my Apple TV 4K with the latest beta update.

ive submitted feedback to apple but no change as of yet.
