Any WiFi router that has MAC filter enabled may not accept the “Private” MAC address feature of the new feature added in iOS 14.0.1 to each WiFi profile saved. Turning off the private Mac Address on the specific WiFi profile may allow your device to connect.
Another issue is it connects fine but moments later it prompts for password on a saved profile. Turning off “wifi assist” in Cellular settings (absolute bottom of the list) will allow the device to remain connected on weaker range areas of this wifi profile.
I suspect the failing over to WiFi profile flip flopping is triggering a false positive on the algorithm that the wifi profile saved is incorrect and thus asks for a re-authentication.
So todays issue!! Wi-Fi disappeared & this time it was on my old iPhone 6s that has ios12!!! My 9 year old uses it....He was on youtube & it just stopped working, so he brought it to me. Wi-Fi symbol was gone, went to try to connect & nothing! No Wi-Fi networks would show up, at the same time, I'm on my computer using the same Wi-Fi & looking right at my XR that's also connected to same Wi-Fi!! We have tons of Wi-Fi networks around us (live in a urban area) & for not 1 to show up is beyond weird & frustrating! Had to do the turn DND & Airplane Mode on/off turn off phone then reconnect to Wi-Fi for it to work again. WTH is going on with Apple!?!?!? Anyone else have this issue with older ios?
Probably you meant iOS 14.0.1
Check your WiFi Router / Modem for --> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points ...
In that case you can’t rule out that it could be hardware malfunction. I’d contact Apple for diagnostics... Maybe you’re eligible for replacing your device?
Hi, I had the same issue since my iPhone XS was on iOS 14.0.1.
I deleted the VPN app (Express VPN) and since then the wifi works fine again.
Thanks!!!!
Have you tried restarting your router? As nothing in the update affected iMacs or MacBooks the problem is almost certainly with your router.
Setting your DNS server manually to 8.8.8.8 still works for me
OK But perhaps it might give you a hint of where to look.
By the way, I actually had wifi working, even though the symbol was missing at the top of my screen. Try turning off your cellular service and open Safari - if it connects. voila.
Mine are the same. My iPhone SE2, my son’s SE1 and my iPad. All had wifi issues since last update. I thought it was the router at 1st but other device (smart plugs, Alexa and laptop) all working fine.
But my son could use my iPhone as hotspot for internet with my phone running 4G.
Ran through forget the SSID, left it 5mins then hard reboot, left 5 mins and re-added. It’s still hit and miss.
I had problems with 4g after updating to iOS 14.0.1. It was very sluggish n kept dropping. Wireless was ok. Say the mention of VPN it this post so I tried switching it off but it kept switching back on. I knew Norton security added this so I turned it off n now 4g working fine. Hope this helps .....
While talking to Apple support I mentioned this thread/topic. He told me Apple does not monitor these discussions. If we want a change then we have to spend the time on the phone with Apple so that they’ll have multiple accounts of 14.0.1 issues.
14.4 does not fix the issue for me. It seems to have been less prevalent recently but not specifically since any upgrade. The work around that works for me is just turn wifi off and on again but it is sometimes a very short lived work around. I am certainly using more mobile data than normal at the moment.
I can only presume that it’s an intermittent issue and difficult to identify and fix but I am surprised it’s taking so long to fix when it seems to be affecting so many people.
Oh, I missed this. @roxxx71 —did you restore your device using your backup? If not, have you followed this up by calling Apple Care?
I turned it off then turned it back on and finally connected to WIFI. They have bugs in this 14.1 version.
If Wi-Fi is greyed out the radio chip on your phone has failed. This is a hardware problem. No amount of software updates can fix it.
My toggle was not there until the hardware was reset. Xx
