wifi calling ios 14

After updating to ios 14.01 my wifi calling drops out randomly. Happens with airplane mode on and off. Have done a complete restore twice, disable/enable the feature, and hard reboot. My carrier is Verizon. Anyone else having this kind of issue?

Update:

Verizon engineers said everything in my area was up to spec. Been leaving my phone in airplane mode because the test calls started working. Tried actually holding a conversation today. Still in airplane mode with WiFi turned on. WiFi calling showing as active. Full signal strength as I’m maybe 10’ away (at most) with clear line of sight. Signal never wavered and the call dropped after maybe 15 minutes. HAS to be a bug in iOS.

I was on a Factime call on my IPad yesterday and the call was dropped, with full WiFi strength. I have 800G WIFI and a mesh network that is super fast. I don’t even have cellular on my IPad. I have zero issues on my computer. All this points to this being an IOS 14 issue. Apple please fix this!! And respond to this discussion.

All WiFi calls drop after 3 to 5 minutes, which is really not helpful when working from home. This was not a problem until a few weeks ago, and nothing has changed in our WiFi set up or coverage. Have tried calling with only WiFi on (cellular completely turned off) and it still drops, so it is not an issue of the phone switching between WiFi and cellular as has been mentioned on other forums. Apple needs to fix this - it is happening across devices (two iPhone 11s, an iPhone 8) with the current operating systems.

I just purchased an iPhone 11 running ios14.2 on the Verizon network and am unable to setup wifi calling. I'll turn it on in settings and then I will check settings a couple minutes later and it will be off. I need wifi calling because I live in a remote area with poor reception. I spoke with apple about it but they said it will turn on when it is needed, but that doesn't seem to be happening. I hope they fix this wifi calling bug with iPhone 11 running ios14.2 soon.

Apple please fix this.

I have the same issue. All WiFi calls drop after almost exactly 3-5 mins or less. It happens on all networks not just my home. I’ve tested this theory across multiple networks.

I have spoken to Verizon, Comcast and my local Apple store.

The issue is clearly with IOS.

Apple this is a real problem.

We have the same problem. Worked fine for 2 years. iPhone X and new iPhone 11. Tested with eero ans direct to xfinity router. Drops calls in 3-5 min. Texts do not come through from non iOS systems (android, MFA verifications) and incoming calls never ring. Reset network setting on phones. No fix. Rebooted networks and phones multiple times no fix. Disabled and Re-enabled Wifi calling. No fix.

I am going to have to get a landline because this is a safety issue with small children in our home and massive productivity issue working from home.

common denominator is iOS 14.

im annoyed.

So funny, I talked to support last week and was initially told they had never heard of this issue and it’s my personal WiFi. Then, I sent them this thread, so they said it was a Verizon issue. Verizon says nope. Then, Apple told me it was because the OS on my laptop was Catalina and not Big Sur (... how that affects my phone, which has never been connected to my computer till now, could not be explained). Updated everything per their directions and still dropping calls every 3 to 5 minutes. This update cannot come soon enough — particularly with so many people relying on WiFi calling while working from home during the pandemic.

Hey, Apple, why don’t you at least comment on this thread and let us know you’re working on it???

I’ve had this issue for months, can’t find a “fix”. I think it’s connected to the WiFi assist and experience it on both phone and iPad. I can make and receive calls, and I can hear the other end but they can’t hear me. The only thing I’ve found that works is to turn off and restart the phone (or iPad) but eventually happens again.

Same things happens to me. 12Pro. When I first received the phone, it worked fine. Updated the software started dropping calls when using wifi calling. Got on the phone with Verizon. They tried a few things, with no luck. They sent me a new phone. Worked great out of the box. No dropped calls using wifi calling. Got notice of software update to 14.3. Went ahead and updated. (my new phone came with 14.2.? I think ) after the update to 14.3 started dropping calls using Wifi. So I am not sure if it is the software or the update process. Remember my new phone came with the same software I update my 1st phone to. The replacement phone worked fine until I update it to 14.3. Spoke to Apple. They said that dropping calls using Wifi calling has been reported by many customers. They have no fix as of today, 12/17/2020

Completely agree this is an IOS issue. Had the issue on several wifi networks, home and work, on my 8 plus. The issue followed to my 12 max pro.... clearly an issue with 14 or some corruption in the profile. I echo the comments of those struggling to work from home. I have tried every combination of wifi and cellular (5g and LTE) calling possible with no option preforming better than another. The biggest frustration is incoming calls often do not ring to the phone. I will occasionally haves someone mention they tried to call me and I have nothing from them in my missed call logs, the best option I can give is to leave a voice mail which will likely pop up a notification alerting me to the missed call. I plan on another round of apple support calls tomorrow, I have had 2 with them and another several with Verizon since upgrading my device after Thanksgiving.

If you hook up you phone to your computer and restore your phone. Not restore from back up. Just restore. And when it is done do a restore from backup to get back all the stuff on your phone. (Make sure you do a backup before you start) wifi calling will work.

it must be via your computer. Not over the air. Even if you erase all your data. It must be do as a complete restore via the computer.

My wife and I both have this issue with our new iPhone 11 phones. We both updated our phones from our backups, but why would we need to restore a brand new phone first and then restore again from our backup? How would this impact the ability of the phone to do WiFi calling? Had no issue with our iPhone 6 and 6+. If Apple allows us to update our new phones from a backup, it should not impact other things like WiFi calling.

Based on the prevalence of the issue and the fact it appears to be happening on multiple carriers, I took think it is most likely an iOS 14 issue.

You can do as you please of course. The problem is not with 14. It is the upgrade process. Please back up your phone via your computer. Then just restore it via the computer. Not restore from backup. Just restore. Then restore from backup to get your data back.

it will work trust me. I have gone thru two new 12pros and backup from restore. I then got a very smart senior tech from Apple. She walked me thru. Stayed on the phone with me for 90 min.

she explained that when you update your phones base software (14.xx or so) you are only patching what you phone already has. So if you hook it up to your computers do restore it. It puts a new version on your phone. Much much different then an over the air update. It worked for me and I had the problem for two 30 days.
