wifi calling ios 14

After updating to ios 14.01 my wifi calling drops out randomly. Happens with airplane mode on and off. Have done a complete restore twice, disable/enable the feature, and hard reboot. My carrier is Verizon. Anyone else having this kind of issue?

I just got off a long chat with Verizon and learned the following. Cutting and pasting what they told me.

This is a known issue. The alert states:

“Some customers with iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max may be experiencing issues with making or receiving calls on Wi-Fi calling. Users may also experience drop calls with Wi-Fi calling.”

“Apple is currently working on this issue and will be releasing the fix in an upcoming software update, although we don't have an exact date as to when that update will be released. Some routers broadcast both a 5GHz and 2.4GHz signal. The 5GHz connection will be faster but have a shorter range. Have you tried connecting and using wi-fi calling with both of these signals from your router (if available)?”

I have countless hours of talking to Apple, Verizon, and Xfinity About the fact that Wi-Fi calls drop every 3 to 5 minutes throughout any phone call while using Wi-Fi calling, I am just personally convinced that this is an iOS problem. It is a significant problem for somebody that runs a business from home and can’t make phone calls without dropping constantly. Apple needs to address this problem with their current iOS or they stand to lose a lot of customers while we all work at home.

I totally agree the issue seems to be in the handoff. Unfortunately this is really the whole point of have WiFi calling. I have 1 bar of cell service but if while on a call the wind blows hard it may disappear and the call drops rather than switch to WiFi. If I turn off cellular data the WiFi calling works fine for outbound calls but may kick inbound directly to voicemail.

iphone 11. New internet with T-mobile Nokia gateway which uses cellular. Phone service with ATT. Have talked to all tech supports. Apple blew me off after I called them back.

Same issue. After update. Tried network reset. Loss of words. Two phones. The 11 and 12. Works for a while and drops wifi calling. Airplane mode works longer. But dont forget to turn it off when you leave. This shouldn't happen with these phones given the price you pay for them. Apple needs to fix this issue. For their customers. Or one would think they would. Not just give you a work around resetting your phone daily. Is this what apple has come to? The daily reset to factory default phone?

All WiFi calls drop after 3 to 5 minutes, which is really not helpful when working from home. This was not a problem until a few weeks ago, and nothing has changed in our WiFi set up or coverage. Have tried calling with only WiFi on (cellular completely turned off) and it still drops, so it is not an issue of the phone switching between WiFi and cellular as has been mentioned on other forums. Apple needs to fix this - it is happening across devices (two iPhone 11s, an iPhone 8) with the current operating systems.

It may not be a 14 issue. My wife has a 12Pro Max with 14.x.x and it works fine. The key is she never updated the phone with the next version software. When my 12Pro arrived it worked fine as well. It also came with 14.x.x. I then updated it to 14.3. Wifi calling started to drop calls. So I think it is something in the upgrade process. If you get a new phone I would not upgrade the software. I am not convinced that it is the base 14. It is something in the update process. No matter it you do it over the air or via the computer.

Hey Apple!!! This needs attention!!! Many of us rely on wifi calling, and it is our lifeline in areas where cellular coverage is unreliable. This could be a major problem in emergencies, please fix this ASAP!!!!!!!!!

Apple is not reading these forums. To push out an issue to the correct channel, go to https://www.apple.com/feedback/

For these that can, as a temporary fix, disable Wi-Fi calling. We can only wait that they address this issue on the next updates.

I recently got T-Mobile Home Internet which uses cellular signal. It uses a mesh wifi and this is EXACTLY when my issue started. I had been using a hotspot with a T-Mobile SIM which used the same cell signal. I had some overlap and was able to test each and it IS the mesh now that I see this post and others. I had excellent tech support from my cell carrier - AT&T and from T-Mobile. The cell service is wifi calling enabled, as is the T-mobile wifi. I planned to call Apple next.

You can't use Xfinity's Mesh network, eg their "pods" but you can certainly use another vendor's Mesh, eg Eero, Orbi, etc. I have my Xfinity modem in bridge mode and my Eero is purring along just fine. Adding to that, I have anecdotally seen better performance w/r/t the dropped calls problem; I've been on a call for 50 minutes now and it's still going without a drop. Fingers crossed.

Thought it was better. 14.4 loaded. After a full restart, and connecting only on Airplane mode, it still dropped at 4 min. Turned cell on. Dropped same call in 3 min. Not. Fixed. iPhone 12, all updates. All background refreshes off, bridge off on Xfinity, rest network settings, etc, etc .....tried every other suggestion known. Still an iOS issue .
