After updating to ios 14.01 my wifi calling drops out randomly. Happens with airplane mode on and off. Have done a complete restore twice, disable/enable the feature, and hard reboot. My carrier is Verizon. Anyone else having this kind of issue?
I just got off a long chat with Verizon and learned the following. Cutting and pasting what they told me.
This is a known issue. The alert states:
“Some customers with iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max may be experiencing issues with making or receiving calls on Wi-Fi calling. Users may also experience drop calls with Wi-Fi calling.”
“Apple is currently working on this issue and will be releasing the fix in an upcoming software update, although we don't have an exact date as to when that update will be released. Some routers broadcast both a 5GHz and 2.4GHz signal. The 5GHz connection will be faster but have a shorter range. Have you tried connecting and using wi-fi calling with both of these signals from your router (if available)?”
I tried both things in your recent responses, and they haven’t worked for me.
Turning off screen time makes no difference. I got a call failed within a minute.
if I am on 5 ghz and within 10 ft of my router, I still get call failed.
Thank you. Why do you think bridge mode is better. I understand that your calls are much better. But what is the Techology that leads you to believe that bridge mode is the way to go.
Bridge more for Xfinity is mostly used when you have a different WiFi router. Correct?
I don’t remember which iOS I’ve had. I had the problem before recent up to 14.3 (assume I had 14.x before - update frequently). My son’s iPhone 8 on 14.3: WiFi calling = fine. So it could be certain models, or components, or.... but I agree it seems like we can rule out Verizon and xFinity here. Now of course my son and I don’t have the same apps but an app issue seems far-fetched to this layman.
I upgraded my iPhone 11 to iOS 14.4 last night. After the update I switched WiFi calling back on but I cannot tell if it’s enabled as I don’t see the “VZW WiFi” indicator on the top left of the phone when I swipe down from the top right. Can someone confirm that Apple possibly changed the WiFi calling indicator, or is my phone now just refusing to use WiFi calling? Verizon is my carrier.
I have made a few calls with WiFi calling on. So far it has worked in the same place it did not work before the upgrade to 14.4.
I think it is a little premature to say it is fixed. I will test over the next few days and report back.
Wifi calls drop between 2-9 min on Wifi calling, with or without airplane mode. I have a weak signal, so that is not an option.
This started happening on my iPhone7 in December 2020 and continued on my upgraded iPhone XR which I thought would fix the issue. I had no issues prior to December 2020. My SIM has been replaced 3 times with many different configurations between VOLTE off/on with no improvements.
I have 5 other devices that do not use Verizon and they all work perfectly fine during Wifi Calling, two of them being an iPhone XR with AT&T.
Cell provider: Verizon
Model: XR, 14.3
ISP: Xfinity
Wifi: Ubiquity Enterprise

Same problem here. Started after upgrading to IOS 14 on my X. upgraded to the 12, I was hoping it would resolve with the new phone and 14.2. It has not.

@hbudovsky, I appreciate the thoughts and tips, but I just spent 6 hours doing this and the problem returned within 20 minutes.
Same problem. ATT. IOS 14.2. Ugh. Very frustrating.
Not sure I understand. You do not have to turn off Wifi in total. Leave WiFi on. Just turn off Wifi calling.
I agree. Wifi calling does need to be fixed.
