Volume on Bluetooth earphones too loud

I have Valco noise cancelling earphones and when listening to music with my iPhone 8 (ios14) the volume is too loud even when I set it as low as possible on the phone.

I have tested the earphones on an Android device and I was able to get the volume to low enough level with it, so the problem is with iPhone/ios, not the earphones.

iPhone 8, iOS 13

Hi there TuomasEi,

We understand you're experiencing an issue with the volume on your headphones with your iPhone, and we'd like to share a resource that may help.

Check it out here: Adjust the volume on iPhone

Specifically, take a look at the section below:

"Limit the headphone volume

You can limit the maximum headphone volume for music and videos.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Sounds & Haptics (on supported models) or Sounds (on other iPhone models).
  3. Tap Reduce Loud Sounds, turn on Reduce Loud Sounds, then drag the slider to choose the maximum decibel level for headphone audio.

Note: If you have Screen Time turned on in Settings, you can prevent changes to the maximum headphone volume. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Reduce Loud Sounds, then select Don’t Allow."

Cheers!

The only BT in ear set I could use on a acceptable minimum volume is the JBL Tune125BT. It has it’s own volume knobs and can be lowered to a level which doesn’t damage my ears.

I have another true wireless BT set, the JBL 125TWS. This set is a true wireless without any volume knobs. Lowest volume is a disasterous level for my hearing.

The last set of BT headphones I tested is the JBL 600BT NC. A great headset but also schredding my hearing on lowest volume setting.

Tested too:

earpods with lightning connector: perfect to manage to acceptable minimal volume, sound Q is dreadfull.

Apple DAC USB C to 3,5mm stereo and Sony MDR-V500 on iPpro 2018: perfect to manage acceptable minimal volume.

Apple DAC lightning to 3,5mm stereo and JBL cheapy wired in ear set: perfect to manage acceptable minimal volume.

I've the same using Freebuds 4i. Sometimes reconnecting them helps for 0 volume bug, but still it doesn't cross our bluetooth icon on volume bar in Control Center. Usually other devices have crossed out icon when volume is down to 0.

When I have hearing set in my Control Center it states over 50db for lowest volume set. When I use cabled earphones I can get this down up to ~10db on lowest setting.

I can't believe that Apple can't fix it as it works flawlessly on many other Android phones.

Same problem here. Started happening recently, didn’t used to happen.

  1. Minimum volume is still too loud when turned down to 1/lowest setting. Makes it very difficult to work/concentrate properly.
  2. Not possible to mute the sound. Turning the volume down using the volume buttons on the headphones, the volume stops at level 1; if I press again to turn the sound off, it just stays at level 1. If use the volume buttons on the iPhone or iPad, the same thing happens, even when the volume bar on the screen shows it’s on 0. Strangely, using the volume buttons on my Macbook keyboard, I can still turn the volume right down/mute it.

guys it makes total sense. After inventing the iPhone, which is obviously easy to do, Apple engineers are able to make the volume work perfectly on AirPods, also extremely easy to do. Now the hard part is lowering the volume on non-Apple Bluetooth earbuds. Yes this makes total sense. The “volume” department does wonders with Apple stuff but can’t at all come up with a way to turn the level down on the products of competitors. God you people want so much.

And I assume I have forgotten my conclusion: could it be that the bluetooth driver in different headphones isn't calibrated to match the OS default bluetooth prefs? My JBL 600BT NC is a mess, can't be turned down even to "0" volume! It keeps playing loud even if you want to shut it down by lowering the volume knobs on the headphone. The JBL Tune125BT though can be nicely paced down to a quiet level or even shut off completely. Any ideas?

Same problem here... I have these weird BT headphones that plug into the bottom connector for power... the pairing sound is BLASTING. I can only listen on the minimum volume, one click down, no sound, one click up, BLASTING. No suggestion here helps at all, I feel the lowest volume is loud enough where it will damage my hearing.
