Apple Watch Series 6 not ringing on incoming calls

The watch just updated to 7.0.2 and is now not displaying incoming calls but it is able to make calls? I reset the watch and it is still not working....

I have an open case with Apple Enterprise support on this issue for the last few weeks. They have pulled diagnostic logs from my phone and watch multiple times. They seem eager and willing to find the issue. In my experience in troubleshooting this I feel it is vehicle specific. I have a 2020 Hyundai Palisade with wired CarPlay that has the problem. My older Nissan with an aftermarket CarPlay receiver has no issues. For me, the issue occurs only when I cut the car off and open the door so the infotainment system then shuts off "before" I pull the lighting cable, about 90% of the way I do it. If I pull the cable from my phone before CarPlay shuts off I NEVER have the issue. I have tested and tested this so many times I've lost count. I think it has something to do with the way the vehicle is sending a disconnect or maybe not sending the disconnect command to the phone so perhaps the phone still think it's connected to CarPlay in some way. Rebooting the phone resets this. This would explain why it doesn't happen to everyone. For the wireless CarPlay users if you turn off WIFI before you shutoff your vehicle do you still have the issue? I think there have been several posts that this was proven true. For you wired folks like me, if you unplug the lightning cable before your CarPlay turns off does your watch ring normally every time? I am sending more diags to Apple once I get home today as requested by Apple Engineers. I am very hopeful we are getting to a resolution with this.

I found on other website this and maybe it helps you:

Guys I read a work around earlier from another user (cannot remember who) - I have a BMW 4 series and iDrive 6 - once I switch the car off (press the Off button once), I unlock my phone, then open control centre, then hit the wifi toggle. It asks me if I want to disconnect from CarPlay. I say yes. Then I press the Engine off button again to fully shut down the car (For some it is opening the door that fully shuts off the car).

My watch has been ringing every time since. An extra step that we didn’t have to do previously, but at least a work around until Apple fixes the issue

Finally found the rest of you having the issue...

I have been on the phone to Apple several times and going nuts thinking it was just my watch having this issue, each time I spoke with Apple it was news to them...

I have an iPhone 12 pro (v14.3) paired with an Apple Watch SE (v7.2)

I have exhausted all troubleshooting steps with Apple, and just yesterday I factory reset and setup both my iPhone and Apple Watch as a new device under Apple's instructions and still no luck.

I must say I am disappointed with Apple and their support on this matter.

From what I have read and testing myself, you need to reboot the phone to get the call notifications coming through to the watch. I just think spending all this money on smart equipment and a daily reboot to be frustrating. IT SHOULD JUST WORK!

I do not have issues with any other notifications, it is just calls only.

I do have wired car play, but haven't paid attention to if this is the issue like all of you have noted. My wife has the same device setup as me and also has wired CarPlay and her watch works perfectly. No reboots to get the watch to work.

Just to add more confusion to the mix; my colleagues also have the same setup, with a mix or wireless and wired car play and do not have any issues, so it seems to be affecting just a select few of us..

I agree this is frustrating, I tend to leave my phone at my desk while I walk around the office and like when the Apple Watch rings. The issue seems to be intermittent but as mentioned a reboot of the phone fixes the problem for a day and then its back to not ringing again.

I do not have any issues with calling or receiving call notifications when LTE is activated if I go for walks and leave the phone at home.

My wife and I both have the same issue on different sets of similar devices and cars: BMWs with wireless carplay, iphone 11 pro, aw5gps.

Issue was introduced with ios14/wos7 upgrade, so I dont believe it is hardware related.

If not everyone has it, maybe it is related to apps that we have/use, or it happens to someone even with blank setup with no user apps downloaded?

For example, I and wife use google maps as navi on carplay.

Same issue. iPhone 12 Pro Max and just picked up a Watch 6 and noticed no phone call notifications on watch when my phone would ring. Just recently updated to 7.1, don't remember the issue before that but have only had this watch for a little over a week. Quick Google search brought me here as many others. We have two cars with "wired" carplay not wireless but same issue. Reboot phone and works fine until next carplay use. I have found no specific way of disconnecting the phone first from carplay to resolve. Must reboot phone for now. Will add to the Apple bug report.

I don’t know if it is a coincidence but I turned off the wifi from my phone (when connected to carplay) then turned off and locked my car, then I go home and called myself from wifes phone and watch ringed. I will try it next time, can you try it also? Hope it works all the time, it is better than restarting the phone until Apple fixes it.

I agree, I have gone through every troubleshooting step I know of. Yesterday I took our other car with wired CarPlay to work. Tested phone and Watch didn't show any call notification. Rebooted phone, worked fine all day. Just got to work today, drove same car, used wired CarPlay all the way in, disconnected same way, made a test call and it rang fine. I haven't rebooted or done anything to my phone since yesterday morning to get it working. I've had it ring by just turning off Wi-Fi on my watch one day and do the same the next and nothing. As everyone else has stated the only "consistent" way to temp fix is to reboot your phone after every CarPlay disconnect. Unacceptable but it appears we are at the mercy of Apple to acknowledge this issue and fix it.
