Anyone have CarPlay? I found mine stops ringing after a CarPlay connection (mine is wireless) until I reboot my phone - rebooting the watch doesn’t fix it & I only need to reboot the phone not both. After reboot it works fine until the next CarPlay connection.
I found on other website this and maybe it helps you:
Guys I read a work around earlier from another user (cannot remember who) - I have a BMW 4 series and iDrive 6 - once I switch the car off (press the Off button once), I unlock my phone, then open control centre, then hit the wifi toggle. It asks me if I want to disconnect from CarPlay. I say yes. Then I press the Engine off button again to fully shut down the car (For some it is opening the door that fully shuts off the car).
My watch has been ringing every time since. An extra step that we didn’t have to do previously, but at least a work around until Apple fixes the issue
I posted similiar suggestion several weeks ago but I noticed that it was not always working, then I stopped trying. I will try it again.
This was my post:
I don’t know if it is a coincidence but I turned off the wifi from my phone (when connected to carplay) then turned off and locked my car, then I go home and called myself from wifes phone and watch ringed. I will try it next time, can you try it also? Hope it works all the time, it is better than restarting the phone until Apple fixes it.
None of the fixes work for my brand new watch series 6 and iPhone 12 Pro. If a fix doesn’t happen I will want to get a new watch since I’m basically at a series 2 now after spending almost $600. I was better off with my series 3 which had cell connection without having to have the phone with me
I have erased / unpaired my Apple Watch 6 Cellular multiple times to correct this problem of it not ringing for phone calls. The erasing / unpairing does fix the problem but only for a temporary period of time. Within a few hours the watch stops ringing and i have to go through the process all over again. I have no issue making phone calls but it will not ring for incoming calls. Paired to an iPhone 12 Pro Max. This issue has been going on for a while. After two phone calls to Apple for trouble shooting they said it has to be brought into a store for service.
Thank you for this. This has been bugging me for a while. Now I at least know what the issue is. I restarted and it worked again. But once I get in my car it will stop. This is very very very annoying and a big issue as my phone is used quite regularly for calls.

Still no solution for me, I resetted and restored my phone completely for another reason, restored my watch several times but none of them fixed the issue other than restarting the phone, and it is continueing to make me crazy.
I agree, this is really frustrating. One of the reasons for having an advanced watch like this is to be able to get at least basic phone call notifications. I hadn't tested mine in a while but just did. Called my cell from my work phone and nothing on the watch. When the call ended my watch then said missed call but no vibrate or audible notification at all. Turned on airplane mode on my phone. Called again from work phone, watch rang. Turned off airplane mode, called again, watch nothing. Restarted phone and back to working again. As much as I know now to restart my phone after every CarPlay disconnect, I still forget and still miss important calls. Going to try and call Apple Enterprise support as I am a mobility specialist for my work and see if I get anywhere with them. Not holding my breath but this is beyond ridiculous.
Hello. I have the same issue with iPhone 12 (iOS 14.3), Apple Watch 6 and wireless CarPlay.
Apple Watch only works when iPhone is rebooted.
Can anyone advise how (an email or a feedback page) to get this issue to Apple's attention as I do not reside in the US?
I know some have reset both their phone and watch and restored from backup. Has anyone reset and not restored from backup? Setup phone and watch as though it were brand new without any of your personal data or apps to troubleshoot this specific issue? I have not taken the time to do this just yet. Something I just noticed as a setting on my iPhone Watch app. Watch > General > Airplane Mode > Bluetooth was turned on. I just disabled this and will test the next time I connect to CarPlay. I would assume this would essentially prevent any Bluetooth connection from the phone to the watch so all communication would have to go over cellular or Wi-Fi. I have a case open with Apple Enterprise Support so will see where this gets us. Also does anyone have this issue with the Wi-Fi only watch, no cellular?
Yes, I have the issue with wi-fi only watch - no cellular.
I believe that setting is just used to allow the Watch to continue to stay connected to the iPhone while in Airplane mode. But curious to see if you have any luck with it.
Thanks.
I set my iPhone 12 pro max up as a new phone, not a back up and still have the issue.
and Apple Watch 6 WiFi only, no cellular. Only restarting my phone every time I get out of my car helps. Super annoying.
Finally found the rest of you having the issue...
I have been on the phone to Apple several times and going nuts thinking it was just my watch having this issue, each time I spoke with Apple it was news to them...
I have an iPhone 12 pro (v14.3) paired with an Apple Watch SE (v7.2)
I have exhausted all troubleshooting steps with Apple, and just yesterday I factory reset and setup both my iPhone and Apple Watch as a new device under Apple's instructions and still no luck.
I must say I am disappointed with Apple and their support on this matter.
From what I have read and testing myself, you need to reboot the phone to get the call notifications coming through to the watch. I just think spending all this money on smart equipment and a daily reboot to be frustrating. IT SHOULD JUST WORK!
I do not have issues with any other notifications, it is just calls only.
I do have wired car play, but haven't paid attention to if this is the issue like all of you have noted. My wife has the same device setup as me and also has wired CarPlay and her watch works perfectly. No reboots to get the watch to work.
Just to add more confusion to the mix; my colleagues also have the same setup, with a mix or wireless and wired car play and do not have any issues, so it seems to be affecting just a select few of us..
I agree this is frustrating, I tend to leave my phone at my desk while I walk around the office and like when the Apple Watch rings. The issue seems to be intermittent but as mentioned a reboot of the phone fixes the problem for a day and then its back to not ringing again.
I do not have any issues with calling or receiving call notifications when LTE is activated if I go for walks and leave the phone at home.
Help Apple!!
This is good information, I thought this was a universal issue - if it’s only affecting some then Apple should replace the watch, clearly this would be a production spec issue. I am tired of waiting & rebooting.
i Would like a new series 6 since I have only had it for a month. I thought the bug would’ve been fixed by now in an update. I am disappointed because my cell service doesn’t work at all on the watch even if rebooted. I’ll call Apple support again to see. I didn’t know that other new watches were fine. Clearly it must be defective
I have a brand new Nike series 6 watch...I don’t think a new watch solves the issue. It has to be a software issue which makes it more frustrating that we are helpless without rebooting or waiting for a fix.
