I have an open case with Apple Enterprise support on this issue for the last few weeks. They have pulled diagnostic logs from my phone and watch multiple times. They seem eager and willing to find the issue. In my experience in troubleshooting this I feel it is vehicle specific. I have a 2020 Hyundai Palisade with wired CarPlay that has the problem. My older Nissan with an aftermarket CarPlay receiver has no issues. For me, the issue occurs only when I cut the car off and open the door so the infotainment system then shuts off "before" I pull the lighting cable, about 90% of the way I do it. If I pull the cable from my phone before CarPlay shuts off I NEVER have the issue. I have tested and tested this so many times I've lost count. I think it has something to do with the way the vehicle is sending a disconnect or maybe not sending the disconnect command to the phone so perhaps the phone still think it's connected to CarPlay in some way. Rebooting the phone resets this. This would explain why it doesn't happen to everyone. For the wireless CarPlay users if you turn off WIFI before you shutoff your vehicle do you still have the issue? I think there have been several posts that this was proven true. For you wired folks like me, if you unplug the lightning cable before your CarPlay turns off does your watch ring normally every time? I am sending more diags to Apple once I get home today as requested by Apple Engineers. I am very hopeful we are getting to a resolution with this.
I have exactly the same issue after updating to 7.0.2 on series 5 - tried to unpair, reset and still not working. All other notifications from telegram, viber, messenger even imessage and sms working, but call is only displayed and rings on phone or mac. I removed even passcode on watch - did not help. And it definitely stopped working after 7.0.2 installation
Verify the troubleshooting steps in this support document, How to unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch - Apple Support
Turn off the unlocking on the Mac, restart the Mac, then turn it back on. If mine acted up, I was able to immediately correct it with the steps in this document.
Last week I was asked by engineering to install some profiles & submit very specific logs for this issue (did it Tuesday)
Late Thursday I received a response from support saying they "need time to investigate", "do not have any time estimate" & to "keep both watch & phone up to date". This seems an acknowledgement of the bug & hopefully a fix at some point.
Hey all! I'm having the same issue... After reading through these comments and replies I'm guessing it's something to do with Carplay? I noticed many people have the same issue with a BMW and wireless Carplay!
If I reboot the phone the notification will come through for maybe 2/3 calls then the notification for calls only stops working on my watch!
Has anyone had any luck fixing this?
Hello. I have the same issue with iPhone 12 (iOS 14.3), Apple Watch 6 and wireless CarPlay.
Apple Watch only works when iPhone is rebooted.
Can anyone advise how (an email or a feedback page) to get this issue to Apple's attention as I do not reside in the US?
I set my iPhone 12 pro max up as a new phone, not a back up and still have the issue.
and Apple Watch 6 WiFi only, no cellular. Only restarting my phone every time I get out of my car helps. Super annoying.
This is good information, I thought this was a universal issue - if it’s only affecting some then Apple should replace the watch, clearly this would be a production spec issue. I am tired of waiting & rebooting.
I have a brand new Nike series 6 watch...I don’t think a new watch solves the issue. It has to be a software issue which makes it more frustrating that we are helpless without rebooting or waiting for a fix.
Update - I just received this email from Apple, no resolution but nice to see they are still following up & the case is still open:
"Thanks for your patience. I wanted to update you on your case and was not able to reach you. I’m still waiting to hear from our engineers about your case and wanted to let you know that the fix will come in a form of software update.
In the meantime please continue to keep your devices up to date and report any changes and restarting both device may help mitigate the issue.
I hope you have a great rest of your day. If you have more questions, just reply to this email. I’m happy to help.
Thanks, "
yep after read all replies i confirm that happend to me too after carplay connection wirless in my bmw , hope this fix soon i still can recieve calls by luck but after i restart phone only ,restart watch doesn't help ,,, watch series 6 with iphone 12 pro max same issue
Understood. Sorry for my limited thinking on that one.
From how understand it, the problem is the Apple Car Play is not properly disconnecting when you shut off the car, so even though your phone is connected to another network, somehow the watch thinks Apple Car Play is engaged and won't ring when you receive a call. So the temporary solution seems to be to manually disconnect Apple Car Play before shutting off the car. I do that by switching to my home wifi network, but just turning Wifi off in Settings then shutting off the car will get the same result.
I understand wireless CarPlay may have been a big part of the error, but I have been driving less recently, so haven’t thoroughly tested, but since the last iOS 14.5 update and the Watch OS 7.4, it does seem to be working again regularly!
In my case, rebooting doesn’t help. The watch my still think it’s in CarPlay but has been stuck ever since I got the watch in November.
iphone pro 12, Apple Watch series 6, BMW wireless CarPlay
Yep, now working for me as well on iOS 14.5 public beta 2 and watchOS 7.4 public beta 2. Finally! I cannot even begin to describe how many calls I've missed since the bug surfaced.
I reset the watch, paired successfully, and immediately tested phone call without success prior to this post. All notifications from other apps are receiving successfully. Only the incoming calls is not working?
