AirPods Pro picking up background noise on call

I agree. Worst Apple product ever. I returned mine to be tested and they came being found to working as expected. It’s incredible to think that Apple haven’t fixed this issue. I’ve had to return to using the wired ear pods.

FWIW, Apple sent me a replacement set of Airpod Pros after I reported the issue. But, as I told the support person, it did not help. Just more info for the group to use and for Apple to see if they are monitoring these forums.

I have an iPhone Xʀ and have bought 4 sets of

AirPod pros due to damage, loss, etc and all

so the same as your complaint. My son has a iPhone 12 max and I often have to sit still for him to hear me. “ dad what the heck are your doing!!!”, “son I’m sweeping the floor” . Some sounds I can barely hear are magnified 100 times on his end and he isn’t the only one, seems every call is like this. If apple cannot understand this issue as stated and that it’s a mic issue within the AirPod or phone then no need to discuss with the ones that can’t relate to their own product. I won’t buy another pair and I guarantee the person working with apple support “call capturing” will lead nowhere. I’m certain this has to be a known and documented hardware issue for apple.

What most likely happened to you is your other AirPod was still connected and so the mic was defaulting to the one in your pocket. This happens when I put an AirPod in a case that has lost its charge so the AirPod doesn’t realize it’s in the case but instead thinks it’s still in my ear. This is a different issue then the loud background noise issue.

Has Apple fixed this yet? So many complaints and my son has the same problem. Background noises are amplified louder than his voice. If he walks over a freeway overpass the traffic noise it picks up is unbearable. If he is in a coffee shop, the background noise will get louder and louder until I can no longer hear him at all. It’s as if the mic gain is increasing to pick up the background noises. Today I was talking to him and after a few minutes all I could hear was the background music blasting and he said it was playing at low volume in the coffee shop. My son has an iPhone 12Pro with AirPods Pro and I have an iPhone 12Pro. Very disappointed, this is worse than my old Pixel 2 which I thought was horrible. :-(

I have never posted on an apple community forum (even when they changed the "gold" on apple watches), but this is a ridiculous problem that make my airpods pro useful only for non-human listening. I have to remove them to take a call and hopefully have my case on me or then my sister is accidentally in my pocket unless I make additional efforts. Adding to this forum to simply increase the volume of activity, since that is how companies decide what issues are really impacting customers. I have also had my airpods pro replaced, reset, restarted. The MOST frustrating thing is when the apple support team explains noise cancellation (which is for my benefit not the caller). Anyway... Just piling on in this forum, because it is ridiculous that my most expensive pair of wireless headphones from a brand like Apple are unusable for their primary purpose.

Same issue here - background sounds drown out my voice and everyone I talk to complains if there is any background sound. Really really disappointing that Apple can’t sort this out. Very frustrating

New firmware (4A402) does not fix my airpods pro. Still have issues with the microphone when there is noise or wind.

Should be a HW problem because some people do not complaint about that.

Will exchange in a few days and see if a new ones works as it should.

So - another AirPods Software update and the issue with picking up and amplifying background noises still there …. Also they dont seem to have introduced the option to have mic isolation during calls as its already on audio conversations via FaceTime or WhatsApp calls… :(

Come on Apple… cannot be that difficult to sort out this terrible issue where the caller can hear more the background noises outside that your own voice.. Disappointing to say the least..

There’s no way resetting your pods simply fixed background noise for callers on the other end of the line. These AirPods Pros do not have the technology to do so.

Having the same exact issue here and did some testing with info from another post. When I have the microphone changed from automatic switch, to right earphone....... people say the background noise is better but they can barely hear me now. Then when I switch to the left earphone they say they hear me better but the background noise is awful again.

So I dunno these $250 Airpods are seriously not worth the price as I seriously cannot use them. If you wanna listen to music at the gym its perfect. But they are unusable to having a phone conversation with people. This is horrible tech from apple, I wish I could return these and get all that money back. I really hope they can fix this issue with a software update of some sort. Here I have been getting annoyed with people and saying its YOU, and not me. But in reality it is me with poor inferior technology at a very high price. Apple FIX IT !!! There is an issue when SOOOO MANY people are complaining about the same exact thing.

I have had the AirPods Pro 1st generation and I faced this issue. I was able to return them after a week. Now I am testing the AirPods Pro 2nd generation (£280) and I am facing the exact same issue. I literally open them now and test the straight away with no luck!

At this point I definitely lost my hopes in this product. My wife has the AirPods 2nd generation (£99) and they are working extremely well and I can hear her clear.

I guess at this point I will return mine and get the old ones. So disappointed!!

Well, I went to apple support abs they were really helpful. Took my headphones for repair. They decided to replace them. Same problem...all sounds amplified to the call receiver :(

Same same. Glad I'm not alone, disappointed in AAPL that there isn't a solution. My dad won't take calls from me if I'm using my AirPods bc the background noise is so distracting!

I have the same issue with Airpods pro. I went to Apple store today and apparently there is no way to fix it. Very disappointed with the quality of phone calls.
